Because I see this being asked over and over again, I figure it's a good idea to sticky this.
Maybe it could also be added to the Tutorial, even if it's just a link pointing to this thread.

I finally located the drivers in a file called 2300 Memory Card reader.zip which fixed the problem
It's something like msi_mpi_07128_flashmemory etc.
The hardware screen shows something like Microsoft iSCSI initiator and O2Micro Integrated MMC / SD controller and MS/MSpro controller.
How about instead of telling us the file name you rather provide a link to the file (manufacturer homepage, or ,if not possible, upload it yourself somehwere)?
That really helps us indefinately more than having to google for the filename or similar.
I can tell you that most likely the outcome of that would be far less than optimal...
Hopefully you can add this type of stuff to the next Mass storage driver pack.
These Internal readers are always a bit of a problem.
That entirely depends on the type of CR used, I would say
The one from my desktop system simply needs a USB mass storage driver which Windows provides by default.
The one for my laptop, however, also because it is combined with the smartcard reader, requires special drivers indeed.
I am not looking to use method 1 or method 2, but actually take the drivers and integrate them into windows. I am looking for a process to put the drivers in the i386 directory and having windows detect the drivers.
That's what M1 does, AFAIK.
As Windows is already able to detect the driver files from within the drviers.CAB, it can do so with any consequitive CAB files containing drivers (which is the case with M1).
What advantage do you seek in including the (presumably uncompressed) drivers?
You can always try and use nLite to add the drivers "just as", if you want, btw.
Can't see the gain behind this, though.
jtdoom: a banner is by definition quite large. If you want to have an animated one (animated GIF), then you're effectively storing multiple relatively large images, resulting in a relatively huge file. That'd slow page loads too much. But... we'll see I'm just saying that chances are slim this will be made.
Well, that greatly depends on the kind of GIF you use.
If unoptimized, they can indeed take up quite a lot of space, however, you can slim them down a lot if you're doing it properly.
Unless you were to put an entire movie sequence into GIF, it can be quite efficient.
Especially banners; if the only changing element is text (the slogan), the only information you'd need to save to each frame is the difference to the previous one.
With text, that isn't so much as you can gather, hence the resulting file size is merely that of the banner graphic (which you would have anyway) plus that little text info.
Anyway, when the time comes, I'm more than willing to create and trying to slim down such an animation.
Wouldn't be the first one I'm doing
So, your old stuff is getting replaced by DriverPacks BASE's rather than having that added to it?
No strange characters in the SIF (unicode conversion problem)?
What happens if you copy that (hopefully backed-up) previous SIF (with the DriverPacks BASE entries already in as you said) and replace that ill-edited file?
will the DriverPacks work?
Hi,
I was updating my drivers DB yesterday and I noticed that the Sound B drivers pack contain .msg files which belong to outlook. These kind of files are more than often created by virus worm.
Got the path to the file so we can quickly verify?
Also, did you check whether it is referenced by any INF file?
I don't know who created the file but I will run a scan an AV scan on your PC asap.
On my PC?
Thanks, but I will do that on my own
Good Luck Worm are really hard to remove.
That entirely depends on the tools you use, I would think
btw isent QSC only for masstorage?
cause when it creates the map I only see the masstorage part.
Yes, QSC is only for the DPMS, because only there, the drivers need to get some special treatment (and only if you use Text Mode, I believe).
All the other DriverPacks are simply shortened in name and copied onto your source, at least if you use M2.
If you do not want to use CABs for the (added by BASE) drivers, then simply use Method 2.
If you do want to use CABbed drivers, Method 1 is for you (but carries some restrictions on the amount of drivers possible to add).
That said, you can edit your posts for clarity instead of creating a new one and not helping with confusion much
yesterday I read something about QSC and 888111.
That was right here --> http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=1717
Anyone else know anything that might could help me out?
Well, call it pure magic or whatever, but I just happened to stumble across this yesterday (and immediately had to think of your problem, too ):
http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4068
Actually, I'm planning on using this myself the next time I come across a HDA system because I had problems with that in the past.
As you are in fact using the RVM Update Pack (I would have posted this regardless), I would definately give this a try - apparently it is a well-known problem (i.e. not isolated to you); and this would also mean it's probabaly really not us to blame but rather Ryan (not to diss his otherwise outstanding work, heh Probabaly MS to blame anyway).
HTH and hoping for you to report back (seeing as I cannot test this myself current for the lack of any affected systems).
Just FYI, MADLAX, it's DriverPacks!
For the sole reason muiz stated already
Just a shot in the dark, but...
Maybe try enabling QSC for a chance.
In the past, some users had problems with it disabled for w/e reason and it worked when they used it...
BTW, what does the following line mean?
Signature = "$Chicago$"
Just FYI, Chicago is the codename of your Win ver.
Same as the next OS is supposed to be called Vienna.
(there were some other names but I forgot )
MS somehow has it with cities, just as the two big CPU makers (Intel, AMD) do.
I see, you mean you are searching inside the file rather than for the file.
My mistake.
Have you tried adding a wildcard (*) at the end of VMS (--> VMS*)?
Generally, search should not just search for the lone phrase you entered, but who knows.
Maybe another bug to be reported to Redmond
well, folder options are set to show all extentions, hidden maps and files, system files, and yet file-manager's file search (for txtstring in files) will not show matches (which I know exist) in that file.
if your XP does show reults, I may have to do a re-install.
(I've been messing on main rig too often lately since the test machines are in overhaul. (read, gutted))
Yes, I can find that one by simply searching for "txt" in the root of my UWXPCD folder.
Pressing [T] once will actually jump to this search entry (there's a plethora of them so it was hard to spot it with the naked eye ).
I can vouch that Ryan's update pack v2.1.11 has KB888111 integrated into it.
Definately, and I'm not doubting that, however, I had similar issues with the sort-of German version of Ryan's Pack, Sereby's (which, unfortunately is on halt now thanks to some "nice" letters from MS, desperately searching for a German-based (no translation for Ryan's available as I can see) Update Pack, btw!).
What I am trying to say is, this one is not in our hands to fix, I guess, but rather the Update Pack creator's.
(provided the DriverPack Sound B did as it told and not re-applied KB888111)
Better take it over to Ryan's forum, IMO, or at least make them aware of this thread.
Alright, then, I take that as an IMPLEMENTED
are the nvidia and ati drivers tweaked?
like the ngo or omega drivers???
because it would be good for the laptop users...
a simple inf tweak would made it
Apart from what Erik said, I fail to see how any "tweak" (w/e that means in the end) would help laptop users apart from simply modding device support into the INFs.
We also prefer original, manufacturer-supplied drivers in about all cases (unless they are known to be bugged and the only way around to this is using 3rd party drivers).
IMO, both NGO nor Omega really offer any feature over the official drivers that helps anyone but gamers, and even for those, only in a handful cases.
If you have encountered a specific issue with your hardware and the current DriverPacks, feel free to post a thread about that so it can get ironed out.
CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHY SEARCH (For Txt) DOES NOT BRING UP Txtsetup.sif IN THE RESULTS.
That was with caps-lock ON on purpose.
Hidden file attribute maybe?
I think there's a setting in search that omits results in hidden files, even though you can (and should, lol) enable the display of such...
I have noticed that the DPs_Base window does say that it detects RyanVM's pack and so will not apply the HDA fix (KB888111).....I thought this was how it was supposed to work.....
Yes, it is.
Hence, you will have to look into Ryan's Update Pack for a possible solution to this.
Do you think that the problem is that the HDA fix is not being applied via DPs_Base?
No, but probably not properly applied by Ryan's.
DriverPacks BASE does not re-apply the fix because that could break some stuff and trusts in the Update Pack to have properly applied it already.
You guys are aware that you can update the 3rd party DriverPack yourself, right?
Just follow the guidelines and you should be fine
The first note is that obviously the system, after the XP installation, keeps the Sneaky's drivers somewhere (where?).
Hello and welcome to the DriverPacks!
May In introduce you to KTD (Keep The Drivers)?
If you did not modify the default path, it should be %systemroot%\DriverPacks
The second note is HOW is possible to install such a new driver to such an old video card? I want to add that the latest official driver with support for GeForce2 is 66.93 (10/2004). The official nVIDIA 93.71 drivers CANNOT be installed in a system with a GeForce2. So, I suppose that these Sneaky's drivers are modded, so that can be installed on almost every display card. Is that a fact?
The driver installation routine won't allow you to install, that is correct.
This does not mean, however, the HW is not actually supported by the drivers.
As we do not call the original setup.EXE to install the drivers, this "problem" can be circumvented.
I experienced the same with a GF4MX400, and from what I can tell, it does not have any problems running on these newer drivers (granted, I don't do much 3D with it but the DXconfig test runs through as well as 3DMark and Google Earth).
I suppose if you were to manually install these drivers by right-clicking on the INF file, hence not using the setup.EXE, it would also work.
Give it a try sometime!
Probabaly missing the HDA hotfix, hence, the actual HDA driver cannot get installed as the device is not being detected.
As the modem also runs on HDA for these audio chipsets, it is naturally also affected.
The drivers from Dell's site probabaly come with a real installer and you did not only right-click the INFs to install it.
Hence, it will also supply and install the HDA hotfix in the process (maybe unnoticed by you).
Do you use any Update Packs on your UWXPCD that already include the hotfix?
If not, can we see your DPs_BASE.log and DPsFnshr.log files, please?
Hi
you can help us improving the pack when you tell us which mainboards have not been properly supported, and by giving a link to the drivers you use to install those.
Yeah, it's definately better to fix the problem at its root rather than trying to just avoid the symptoms.
Even if you want to go that route, it would still be smarter to just find out which drivers in DPMS cause the problem for you and kick these out of your CD rather than creating a whole new installation for this case.
And should you still want to do that for w/e reason, I'd suggest creating one with all DriverPacks and one with all but DPMS, then you get at least all the other drivers installed instead of having a totally blank system.
Yes- it is a Dell Inspiron and I'm not 100% sure yet (as I haven't read the linked forum page) but I think it may have to do with ATI.
From my experience, I'm willing to bet it rather has to do with Dell, but let's see how this one turns out for ya
