what about many modern motherboard without ps/2 ports of any kind?

works fine with my particular (laptop) hardware mix of a Wacom tablet, synaptics mushpad, and a MSFT trackball.

If it matters, I 'vote' for separate LCD and CRT monitor packs.

same username/login as we use on the board??

if you have a place that can take a 30Mb email, I have a generic broadcom driver disto I can send you.

Both MS and CS are small enough that there would have to be a big benefit of creating 'archive' packs to justify the work.

Besides from having to parse fewer HWIDs (and fewer headaches), what are the potential bennies?

That is a Most Excellent Idea.

In one form, Graphics C already serves that function.  I can see that a similar pack for both Chipset and MassStorage would do the same thing.

Yah, as much as I like Intels commitment to legacy product support, the IAA is a PITA.  It was a temporary patch for a quickly fixed Microsoft XP bug-let.  It's also toxic to anything newer than an original Pentium4.

You get 'well meaning' users, bored to tears at their desks, who cruise the 'net looking for ways to improve their office PC.  More often than not, this means that one of my guys wastes an hour or two re-imaging their machine and then spending a day or more doing data recovery.

Did this thing get into MassStorage G or not?

Wasn't the Intel application accelerator made obsolete by an XP update some 2+ years ago?

Besides that, it's useless on newer hardware than an ICH5, all laptops, and **any** CPU that has hyperthreading.  It's also 'unfriendly' (in a data loss kind of way) with Norton Speed Disk and third-party read/write cache software.

Thanks.  It looks like Wacom is cutting out serial connect support (USB only).  Which would be fine except that most (all??) Tablet and slate PCs that have an integrated Wacom tablet connected via a mini-serial internal adapter.

This in turn makes the addon useful for TabletPC machines as well........

The Pro driver I pointed you at has loads more functionality than and replaces the default Wacom TabletPC driver.

As always, many thanks!

RS, any chance of getting the Wacom Pro Driver in there??

ftp://198.145.255.42/drivers/IBMPC/pro/ … 608-4a.exe

Thanks, RS!  I'll give these a try later tonight.

Keep an eye on the VirtualBox website.  They have internally announced v2.0.4 which should fix some of th eproblems people are having with v2.0.x in terms of buggy guest addons and memory corruption.  The only workaround for these problems is to downgrade to v1.6.6.

changelog?  I'm interested in the size differences between the last few nightlies......

more testing with S_A 809 rc2

I am playing around with having the audio devices enabled in VB or not.  I have about 8 different setups to test so it will be a while before I report back.

The one constant is that if I integrate older soundA packs, no BSOD.  If I integrate any of the soundA 8.09 packs (including rc2), BSOD.

other tidbits:

XP install runs to successful completeion if I manually disable sound support in the VM.

After a no-audio-hardware install, I can re-enable the audio hardware.  PnP will detect the h/w as a Realtek AC 97 and then try to install the drivers.  The VM will BSOD on what appears to be the last component of the driver package.

During a PnP driver install, I can tell the applet to let me pick the hardware from a list.  I then pick the Vinyl AC 97 Combo Codec Driver WDM package INSTEAD of the Realtek AC 97 package.  The Vinyl driver appears to install properly without BSOD.

So, and until I can get more testing in, the problem appears to be in the Realtek AC 97 driver and/or the proper detection of an AC 97.  If I manually interrupt PnP and tell it to use the Vinyl AC 97 Combo driver, things work properly.

generic emulated HWIDs from Virtualbox.

The old usual portcls.sys BSOD.  It ONLY happens if I try to integrate this particular nightly.  Use any other sound pack in any combination with current GA and/or recent nightlies, everything is fine.

Testing under Virtualbox 2.0 and 1.6.6.

I'm using DP_Base 80910b, but the BSOD occurs with older DP_Base including 805.

If you need more info on the BSOD let me know here, it's repeatable.......

The title of this thread is way out of date........

Yet Another Reason to NOT bother the pack developers about fresh releases.  They know full well when things come out.  Waiting a week or more hurts no one and prevents the premature release of packs with 'withdrawn' drivers.
