Hi Guys,

With all the Intel Driver fun thats happening at the moments, I would like to request an old one thats missing from the DriverPacks smile

I had an old machine that I built a while ago, and it required the "Intel PCI IDE Controller" to be update using the Intel Application Accelerator 2.3

Intel Application Accelerator contains drivers for the following controllers:

    * Intel(R) Pentium(R) III or Pentium(R) 4 processor    
    * Intel(R) 82801AA, 82801AB, 82801BA or 82801DB controllers

All the other Intel Chipset Drivers were fine. It would be nice if you could add to the Chipset Driver Pack for backwards compatibility.

The Driver Files are:

IdeChnDr.inf
IATA3000.CAT
IdeBusDr.sys
IdeChnDr.sys
IPrtCnst.dll

To get the files, extacted setup files from iaa23_enu.exe. Then run:

SETUP.EXE -A -P C:\Intel

I've been using this in a Custom Driver Pack for about a year without issue, and it complements the old ICH2/3/4 Drivers with the IDE Controller Driver.

No problem, i'm on it. Since it's an IDE driver , it will go in MassStorage pack instead. Thanks for reporting.

Wasn't the Intel application accelerator made obsolete by an XP update some 2+ years ago?

Besides that, it's useless on newer hardware than an ICH5, all laptops, and **any** CPU that has hyperthreading.  It's also 'unfriendly' (in a data loss kind of way) with Norton Speed Disk and third-party read/write cache software.

Newsposter seems to be right. Iv'e looked at inf for XP SP3 and

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2411
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2421
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_244B

are part of txtsetup.sif and mshdc.inf

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24CB is part of mshdc.inf only.

Yah, as much as I like Intels commitment to legacy product support, the IAA is a PITA.  It was a temporary patch for a quickly fixed Microsoft XP bug-let.  It's also toxic to anything newer than an original Pentium4.

You get 'well meaning' users, bored to tears at their desks, who cruise the 'net looking for ways to improve their office PC.  More often than not, this means that one of my guys wastes an hour or two re-imaging their machine and then spending a day or more doing data recovery.

Did this thing get into MassStorage G or not?

So 7yler,

I discovered we don't need to add your driver in the final release of a pack. After couple of research I noticed that your driver is part of 2K SP4, XP SP2 and XP3 as well. If by any chance you deleted drivers with nLite I wonder why? On what OS was running your old rig ? And did you notice any issue when they are missing ?

Thanks for your time and researh into this.

I had no broken install caused by nlite, I just enjoy playing around with windows builds on different hardware. At times I will use DriverAgent.com and other tools to check for Driver updates and noticed this was listed as requiring an update. As DriverPacks includes all the old Intel ICH Drivers I thought I would mention this one.

If as newsposter reports, it causes issues with newer hardware/software, leave it out. wink


Out of interest, I did a test on the old rig:

While here, I would just like to give a big thumbs up to all you guys, for all your hard work, I know how time consuming and frustrating drivers can be. I wasted many hours until I found DriverPacks. You do a fantastic job.

Thanks 7yler for your interest into the project, feedback is always apprecied. Like Overflow once said, newer is not always better...unless it fixes some bugs. So I will leave it out for now and I will also remove the others ones that are natively supported by 2K SP4, XP SP3 and 2003 SP2.

you might make an archive pack out of them too... 3rd party DriverPack for legacy OS versions (out of date SP wise)

That is a Most Excellent Idea.

In one form, Graphics C already serves that function.  I can see that a similar pack for both Chipset and MassStorage would do the same thing.

Both MS and CS are small enough that there would have to be a big benefit of creating 'archive' packs to justify the work.

Besides from having to parse fewer HWIDs (and fewer headaches), what are the potential bennies?

best one i can think of is a driver that is included in the most recent SP only...

we dont really need it but some poor slob who is tied to an old SP for wahtever reason just might...

I must disagree, I don't see the point of including drivers already supported by pciide.sys and intelide.sys which are inclued in 2K,XP and 2K3. Unless the INF fixes some issues and I doubt this since there is no sys file updates. DriverPacks officially support 2K, XP and 2K3 and that's it for now.
