the most interesting features for us will involve driver support.  What can be said about the default installed drivers; does anyone have native USB3 support, for instance?
I hear that you can enable the start button; yet you lose Explorer 'Ribbon'.

i agree, it is sick; yet that's what's happening on this end.  Which OS is better; whichever one is easiest to conform to the License Agreement, perhaps.

Businesses running 'Mac OS's on their PC's may be reported to their 'Big Brother' now that the Business Software Alliance in Canada is offering cash rewards to people turning in their employers, for their use of 'illegal' software.  I wonder how they define the word 'illegal'.

I have that one, yes, thank you; i'm still interested in finding "23.10.2009_iiyama_drivers.zip".  If it's not available from an OEM, then 'c'est la vie'. hmm

AVG's standalone virus scanner seems to be the worst for false positives, so far.  And it takes forever!

Best to run on a Cray2 minimum, an infinite loop only takes 8 minutes!  Forget not to top up the cryogenic tank, hmm?

DP_Displays_wnt6-x86 Notes
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- installing more than 25 color profiles in Windows can cause problems

- If Windows can autodetect your display over VGA with the AC cord removed from the display, then all 15 lines should have conductivity within the cable

- If you are connecting your Display over a VGA cable and Windows cannot autodetect your display, the cable may not have conductivity through pins 12 & 15

- If you are using an older KVM, the I2C communication may not properly pass through pins 12 & 15 & you may experience similar symptoms as the previous.

- If you have ruled out the previous cases and Windows still cannot autodetect your display, your display might have a bad EDID chip, or the video card
and display may use incompatible voltages; this could prove disasterous for the EDID EEPROM within the display.

- If your Display is sRGB compatible, you need no profile associated (maybe use Windows' built-in sRGB profile; although i'm unsure of color temperature)

- If you are removing a display and you have removed the ghost driver from device manager, the registry entries may still remain.  Navigate to
"HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\DISPLAY" to manually remove the relevant keys.

- If you intend to use EDID overrides for HDMI_v1.3 passthru of 3D video (HDMI_v1.4), WHQL status is void if the .Inf is modified; use .Reg files instead.

- A copy of your display's EDID will exist (as long as Windows can autodetect) within the individual "Device Parameters".

- If the key "Control" exists alongside the "Device Parameters", your display (& cable) likely support DDC/CI
..

The rules are indeed a protective framework.  They ensure that 'DriverPacks' will be around long after WinXP support is cancelled.  Whom else is better positioned to provide "worgink" drivers for the newest x86-based MS OS's? hmm  Long-term success may depend upon what MS does in the next few months.

I see that you have at least two 'varsity sponsors.  Perhaps your contacts there may provide a wealth of ideas.

Another avenue may be small-business-based tech stores. (plain-jane retail may express interest sooner, though)  Wouldn't one of the first questions of a prospective client be 'how soon can you send me samples?', or 'how long until you can send me a 1000-lot?'  Beware the freetards!

Perhaps the first job is educational; teach others why updated drivers are so important.  I know it, you know it; if we didn't believe this, none of us would likely be here (perish the thought).  If many don't know that they need you, what will encourage them to 'pay' attention?  Global financial outlooks seem over-optimistic to me; yet despite this type of financial climate, there will be opportunity.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Think_%28IBM%29

You are correct about the documentation, Mr_Bashrat, it is advising people to:

It is highly recommended that you use either nLite or the RyanVM Integrator to integrate all current hotfixes prior to integrating DriverPacks.

When integration questions are asked in the forums, i see mr_smartepants having to preempt the attempted DP integration with nLite by 'noobs.  I have no experience integrating any install disks yet (vanilla installs only), has anyone noticed? ?

Getting back to the main topic; i love the µTorrent download approach.  Can't stand html links for the DriverPacks; that was slow for me.  If my bandwidth wasn't subject to over-usage tariff, i'd pull out my DD-WRT box & start serving & 12Mbps.  I don't know if it's because of the updated drivers, yet downloading DP_Sound_A & B averaged 750kB/s each concurrently over my little 54g connection @ 25% power with 0 packet loss for the whole day (i did use the WiFi utility long ago to hop to a well-separated channel!)

Thank you.

Very true, thank you for your 360° thinking!

HWID's simply describe the VENdor & DEVice.  They are supposed to be unique & distinct for each and every hardware type (I read - chip).

There are at least two unique HWID's for your MassStorage controller.  The ID depends upon whether it is in Compatibility Mode, AHCI, or AHCI-RAID.

I see that if the AHCI-RAID mode is set, the F6 floppy has a driver that is WHQL'ed for WinXP_x86.  You may need to plug in a Floppy drive for the install, though.  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314859

I wonder if your driver CD that came with the mobo will have drivers on it that will apply during 'F6'.
If it does have WHQL'ed drivers for XP, could you share, please?  Best to do this as a request to add a driver - see the Forum Rules.

MARK STRELECKI

Could you post your HWID's, please, just to be certain.

You could try this driver from D-Link which specifically fixes the XP64 issue.  ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Wireless/dwlg122_re … rs_204.zip big_smile

Or you could try the newer driver from RaLink (this is most likely the chip manufacturer, inside your dongle) RT73 driver from here http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic. … 834#p43834, as the RevB HWID is already included for all versions of Windows (including 64bit).

If you don't like either of those, the latter may be available from Windows Update, that's where i got it.

#1 - ensure that the mobo has the latest BIOS.  http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=A75M
*** Beware - improperly applied BIOS updates can 'brick' your HW!  If you're not 100% confident, skip it.

Find the 'F6' Floppy image for your MassStorage device, perhaps.  Maybe like this one ftp://174.142.97.10/drivers/AMD/SATA/Fl … .0292).zip

Mind you, the AHCI drivers appear to be WHQL'ed for Win2k3.  Perhaps if you ask nicely, mr_smartepants might make one of his well-penned custom .inf's to assist you.

Please send us details about your HWID's, so we may be able to help further. big_smile

Not if you account for the possibility of time-paradox! big_smile

I find the output to be too long for easy comparison with a large number of files.
