One item of note for notebook (or net-book) owners is to ensure that the RTC battery is fully charged before use.
Most pro-grade models have rechargeable RTC batteries, some have disposable RTC batteries. The disposable RTC batteries (usually a Lithium coin-cell CR-prefix, except Dell) must be replaced if voltage falls below 2.85V @ 20°C. Some OEM's use a Lithium coin-cell with leads. In this instance, i salvage a small coin-cell socket from a dead motherboard & wire the old-cell's leads to it & then find an electrically-insulated (non-thermal-zone - 40°C max) place to mount it with a common hot glue-gun. I check with a handheld WiFi detector that runs on Lithium coin cells (if it can't light up the cell is a dud). This shows that each cell can handle a standard load. Rechargeable RTC batteries (ML-prefix) usually require 16-24 hours to fully recharge from a discharged state.
I have personally seen a dead RTC battery cause a black-screen issue on at least one notebook. Usually a bad RTC battery will simply cause the time to be reset, yet other affects may occult your best efforts.
If your main battery has little capacity even after a full charge, discharge it using Memtest86 (or similar), charge it to full, then repeat 2 more times. Ensure that it is stored between 5°C & 40°C (preferably 20°C) as these battery-type's lifetimes are reduced at 'extreme' temperatures. Never attempt to charge a battery that is outside that temperature range!
Is this still an issue with DP_Graphics_B x86 & x64?
Known errors:
Integrating into Win7 will cause x64\G_B\ATI\1\CH112275.inf: Error - An error occurred. The driver package could not be installed.
Reason: That .INF is designed for Vista install only.
(now x86\G_B\ATI\1\CL125179.inf & x64\G_B\ATI\1\Display\CH125180.inf) If so, could the DP_Graphics_B x86 & x64 changelogs be updated as time permits?
Just out of curiosity's sake, i thought it would be interesting to run some antimalware proggies on hiren's collection v15.0. (Side note: if you do decide to download it, for sanity's sake get it from hiren's website, not a fourth-party, unless you love sippin' on insane saké!)

I do note that this version does contain two driver files: XpDrvLAN.7z & XpDrvWLAN.7z (bcmwl6.inf is included in error, bcmwl5.inf is DriverVer=07/17/2003, 3.30.15.0; terribly ancient) MassStorage drivers are included in 'Hiren's.BootCD.15.0.iso\HBCD\XP\XP.wim\I386\System32\drivers\', yet i'm not sure if they're recent. I don't see .Inf's for them, though. USB3 doesn't appear to be supported. I wonder how they solved nV MassStorage issues.
Get well soon! May the 'Shire always smile upon you and yours!

I have a pair of test packs available for Vista-7, yet only 2 downloads. XP version of DP_Displays has stalled for now. I would be remiss if i didn't acknowledge that i now have one confirmed individual interested in DP_Displays_wnt5_x86. Thank you.
I have not given up on the project, yet i must confess that i don't understand why some Security Catalog files can verify as WHQL when others do not. I note that OSAttr=2:5.0;2:6.0 will sometimes validate in XP, yet not always. I am using Nir Sofer's HashMyFiles to verify SHA1 signatures (So Handy to identify identical files or compare SHA1 sig's with .Cat file contents, or verify DP downloads!). Until i understand this further, i do not wish to commit myself to manually searching/cross-referencing 10000+ files. If there was freeware available to accomplish this, my enthusiasm might grow.
If your monitor/display directly supports sRGB, you don't need drivers, unless your monitor/display is not auto-detected by windows. Registry-based EDID overrides may allow some non-3D displays to output simple 3D video and allow HDMI1.4-thru-HDMA1.3 passthru support on HDMI 1.4 non-compliant Audio/Video Surround Receivers, etc.
I also note that Acer's Gateway brand may be phased-out in favor of the 'Acer Business' moniker, In other words, i have been mindful of the future of such packs, despite the all-but total lack of public/professional interest in this project.
Sometimes licensing issues preclude a 'manufacturer' from releasing updated drivers, or for OS's not originally supported. Mostly it's money; someone has to pay for WHQL certification, for instance. If you were an OEM, would you want to continually send money down a seemingly bottomless pit with little chance of recovering your costs?
I believe there should be an officially-sanctioned central repository for windows drivers; that would seem to be in MS's best interest, going forward into Win8.
In the mean time, the door is wide-open for 3rd-party support.

a black screen on VGA/flat-panel can indicate a faulty CMOS battery on the dv6xxx & dv9xxx series.
Then again it could also be a dud GFX chip. Google "bumpgate".
To confirm: get a linuxLiveCD like 'knoppix' or 'ubuntu' & boot the portable with the disc in the drive & a spare monitor hooked up.
- if you receive a beep code upon POST, note the sequence & reply; you may have a dud graphics chip
- if the machine boots, & the DVD drive light flashes away (hit enter after a time), yet nothing shows on either screens
then you can assure yourself that you have a dud graphics chip.
Major changes may be coming to Windows 8 concerning Audio support. They are mentioning something called Hardware-Offloaded Audio Processing.

In the final ruling for US v Microsoft, it stated that, “Microsoft shall not restrict by agreement any OEM licensee from exercising any of the following options or alternatives: …Offering users the option of launching other Operating Systems from the Basic Input/Output System or a non-Microsoft boot-loader or similar program that launches prior to the start of the Windows Operating System Product.”

I have a simple answer; simply mandate that in order to receive the 'Windows 8 Certified' logo, Secure Boot & the ability for the user to disable it, must be present. Password protect the UEFI with a SKU-like code on the motherboard. 'nuff said.

station-drivers has DriverVer=10/03/2011,9.2.0.458; i've not been able to spot an OEM link, sadly. Their unpacking is incomplete; win7_x64 only.
I've de-cloaked those drivers for Vista-7_x86_64, if interested.
Here's one more Atheros AR9170-based driver.
D-Link DWA-160 rev: A (XP_DriverVer = 06/23/2010,3.0.0.170) is mixed with some Ralink drivers (for rev: B, see D\W\D\Drt2870.inf).
ftp://ftp.dlink.pl/dwa/dwa-160/driver_s … 101004.zip
I suppose that set of Ralink drivers would update the existing D-Link drivers to DriverVer=12/28/2009, 1.04.09.0000.
However; if those HWID's already exist within the updated Ralink rt2870 drivers http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic. … 704#p45704 (TRUE) , these Ralink components could possibly be disregarded & deleted (D\W\D\Drt2870.inf).
