SiLicon removed.
we solved many issues in the 710xX testpacks.

we may add SiLicon image 3114 drivers at a later date.

oh,
you do need to slipstream each supported OS you want this done for, and copy the files for each OS.
You need only one OEM folder, though.
It must be in root of the DVD.
The other copies made when you slipstreamed can be deleted.
(when you do not change selection when you run DpsBase, they are all identical. Only the one you put in root is used.)

Hi,
when you integrate driverpacks, an OEM folder is created in the folder you have used as source.
Copy an OEM folder to root of the DVD.

Here's what I had to do to make this work on MSDN DVD
They too have several OSes on them, and each OS has a corresponding folder where the system32 folder and other systemfiles (for txtmode) are.

I copy/overwrite the newly created files (sorted by date) from the i386 folders to the corresponding folder for that OS.
(you do not need to copy driver.ca_)
Also copy the *.SY_ files from i386 to corresponding folder (you find them when sorted by type).

And for the bootfile, you can use isobusterto get it off the original DVD.
To make a bootable burn in nero (what you apparently use), set floppy option to NO emulation, sectors set to 4, and hex is 07C0

these images should be hosted on a better site.
I can hardly reply in here.. our forum is overloaded?

The spotlight utility is a free technet download used by "syprep" people.
The output is either INI or CSV, and the operator has to manually change the batch to needs.

What We did, is something like this.
We made the INFinfofinder cmd ask for the source folder. (drag drop it into it).
Once we have the raw CSV output, it can be put to use.

Oh, spotlight uses a VBS script. It is free to all.

Araxis, that is not free. Winmerge is next best. These tools are used to compare sytemfiles and folders.
JakeLD mentioned duplifind to get internal duplicates found in a single file.
The hilite formula for excell posted by one of our members was valuable, and that is doing it for the HWID or any other Column one puts it to. (Excell has a limit on those formula. Our need is met by doing it on one or another, the human brain can devise ways to put this to use..)

These are what I use now.
Ruud, Alex, Erik, Jon, Jeff, Geert, and all the testers I do not mention have had access to this tool for a good while.
It's been on ftp by me for more than half a year before I personally looked at it..
Now I use it.

welcome to DriverPacks, yufengzx.

I suggest you ask the question in universal imaging forum.

Hi,
I'd like to know what format we need to put collected data in, because I have this uncanny feeling the new site will make have us change the way we work now.

To explain, at the moment, we collect data with "spotlight" and then use its raw CSV output and put it in Excell (We could put it in a Dbase too. ) because we found a way to quickly show duplicated hardware ID's (or version, or filename.. There are like eight important columns in that file.).

I knew Bâshrat the Sneaky was busy.
I hope he gets us on the track to the future.

Hi,
a couple days ago I was looking at a fresh install of XP, and see the driver folder in there with a 70 plus MB driver cabinet.

I assume MiniXP is something like an Nlited install CD, heavily pruned of all sorts of things, including native drivers.
DriverPacks does not remove native drivers.
For Mass Storage, we have a list of drivers, and if we need one to be replaced, we write that is has to be in the INI.
(for Mass storage, and other drivers, we use INI files to handle "exceptions".)

Hi OverFlow.
I just looked at the PlugIn builder tutorial you prepared.

I will let these folks have a sneak preview.

I updated the post just above this one.
The latest realtek driver update added wdm INF.
I thought wdm was the older driver model.
(edit> it had no changes in the SYS files. cats and infs only)

I'll run the tool, and expect realtek to again claim it does SiS and Via, and Nvidia like it's their own, and I'll probably find same dupes.
(Oh, it added ONE new specific HWID, and corrected a subsys 00000000)

I wonder about making the excell worksheet links available here.
The worksheets are on FTP, and those with access to tester forum should have found those.

I am not a data mining expert.
(hehe, I am not an expert in anything..)
The raw output from the tool has to be looked at with argus eyes, because there are drivers what have 'dupes' in the inf. The tool is not ALWAYS able to gather Operating System info from the Inf, so I had to look at content to see why dupes was there.
That was like work.

I've seen a driver that had "suspicious" lines in it, and sure enough, the next update fixed it.
It also added wdm copies of the INF files that had not existed before..

I've seen drivers that had dupes in it that were real errors by the OEM.
(like in, they added their HWID, and it already existed. It did not call different settings/registry sections.)
It was NOT for some particular dual card. The excell shows wher I found one of those.. I marked it "B" so it would no longer hilite.. The tool's raw output does show duplicate lines caused by sections which are duplicated across drivers for registry entries. They are not HWID dupes.)

The worst are those that let generic HWIDs exist, where the only thing they really had to have is their specific ones because they have changed SYS files.
The generics fight a battle.
Windows can get information from an INF what can claim that a driver is newer, where the systemfile is actually older or same, or not suitable.
Nobody said it was easy. You guys at least try to help.

Hi,
Welcome to DriverPacks.

The downloaded archive must be placed in \driverpacks folder.
You don't put unzipped files there.
dpsBase will unzip and process the archive.

(sorry.. yesterday I wrote a longer post, and submitted it, but it got lost in a forum glitch?)

Hi,
I have no idea how Bâshrat the Sneaky wants to do it.

Sorry guys, I must have appeared very scarce this week. I did get notifications of your replies in my email but had no time to follow up on your reports.
I hope I can work on the pack tomorrow, because I want to apply the fixes.
(The removal of a SiS HWID in a SiS driver must be undone, for instance.)

While software can help making lists, it was not software that made decisions when choices had to be made.
I hope I can fix this by undoing some wrong choices.

I read that there ought to be no removals.
Erm.. removing approx 2000 duplicated HWIDs may seem like an 'overkill' effort, but the pack did not work right when it was not done.
I'll reread your reports tomorrow, and will do what I can so as to have a new test pack available before Sunday.

HOW did you fix it?

I dunno..
I do know QSC OFF is bad.

The special characters like [white meat] (which includes a space as well), could throw this off.

call me a stick-to-DOS geek perhaps, but I like to keep special characters out of foldernames, and most often still stick to 8.3 convention.

Hi
I will look what I can do.
I see that REV_03 is not mentioned in the DELL M70 driver.
I see that the PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_266E&SUBSYS_01871028 is a unique in the current release.

I think the M70 will have a lot of duplicated HWIDs if we add it, and that could make it still take the wrong driver.
I suggest you replace the folder with content of your driver, and repack the sound_B pack..

Hi Vorenus,
I think I'll use your question and the answers to it as basis for some txt, which can be added to the 'fine DriverPacks tutorial' Helmi linked to..

It's been growing into something above basic level, but that is not a bad thing, I guess.

Hi Jake,
it contains 32-bit as well.

hi,
you can link to it.

Willkomma to DriverPacks. A 404 is better than 504, and worse than a blank. smile

I think I saw a log posted here, and read it, and saw d\3\M\... etc, and that is why I mention modem.
The posts have been edited, and I rely on my poor braincells.

D\M\3\... is mass storage (folder 2 has a minipack sfx I forgot in it.) ((I think I will make that one live again.)).
D\3\M is third party modem
sound is D\S\..

3\M has sound drivers in it.
Modem sound often makes sound card install fail.

Hi
welcome to DriverPacks

this is in that 2.exe (a self extracting file)

Hi
quite a few of those modem drivers can have sound drivers in them.
I see you used 3rd party modem.

a few graphics drivers have some sound feature too.

Hi
when you do the slipstream, a more recent pack will be taking the place of the older.
in other words, it is updated.

PLEASE ENABLE QSC when you slipstream, even if it does NOT reccomend it.

hi,
welcome to DriverPacks.
Please try one of the two testpacks here.

Jaak wrote:

Hmm, yes, they were moved into the "olde" folder.

The latest change was done by JakeLD and is this one

71012X_No_SiLCC_NVIDIAFIX

If you have an AMD CPU and Nvidia chipset, and 71012X_No_SiLCC_NVIDIAFIX does not work, then do try the 7109X
(I will put it in the testing folder again, so that the link again works  )
7109X_SiL_No_CC.7z

CC_010x tags were apparently not needed for Silicon Image, so that file where we tagged SiLicon Image stays in the "old folder".
