Absolutely. As an admin in my organization I would NEVER open a port for bittorrent activity because it is a massive security risk for the corporate network. It's the bittorrent upload/download activity that is the risk.
DriverPacks themselves posses zero risk.
So what's your answer? Download them from home.
GalacticOverload wrote:In order to get the new files I will have to download the files at home, move them to a flash drive and then bring them into work.
Bad idea. USB flash memory drives are also a security risk (virus carrier) and we've banned them in our organization also. Burn them to DVD-RW and scan them before introducing them to your network.
From our News post:
mr_smartepants wrote:So, if you find DriverPacks useful AND you make money from their use (Enterprise/Commercial use), please strongly consider donating a fraction of your profits to DriverPacks to help sustain the efforts.
DriverPacks as an ecosystem cannot be sustained indefinitely without donations. Just hosting the website alone costs Wim a LOT of his own money. The infrastructure we maintain comes at a significant cost that one man cannot be expected to pay for on his own.
How dare you sir! I find it an insult for you to DEMAND for us to provide you products and services that cost us several hundred man-hours to develop and support.
If you don't like what we provide for free, then do it yourself!
If you can post the Realtek HWIDs as well, we can add them back in.
BTW, there are no changes to the Atheros drivers between 11.01 and 11.09.
The Atheros HWID is already directly supported:
D\L\At\l1c51x86.inf 9/27/2010 1.0.0.45 PCI\VEN_1969&DEV_1063&SUBSYS_83FE1043&REV_C0 Atheros AR8131 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller
Are you sure you didn't do something wrong?
Please post the HWID from the machine that has the problems.
It's a torrent file. You need to download the actual dpms using BitTorrent or uTorrent or another torrent client.
Looks to me like M$ has another Windows ME on their hands. I don't like it.
I DO like the explorer ribbon!
If I can figure out how to permanently disable the giant tiles and go back to a standard interface.
I'm also worried about their driver support since they're moving to the WDDM 1.2 which isn't directly compatible with the Vista/Win7 set.
Mr.Tom wrote:Okay, this one installed driver version 7.8.0.1012 9/29/2007. The description is 82801HR/HH/HO SATA AHCI, which is different from the 10.1 version. Was it supposed to be v10.6?
That's what I expected. Glad it worked for you. Seems the 7.8 driver doesn't like your HWID during textmode but is fine post-install. No matter. The end result is correct. 10.6 can be forced by manually selecting \D\M\I9\dps9AHCI.inf (which is unsigned).
I'll make sure that fix makes it into the next final release.
Oh, and DriverPacks Finisher will be deleted on the following restart. That sometimes happens.
OK, here's another pack to test. This time I removed the 10.1 Intel drivers and moved the HWIDs to the 10.6 which should be much better.
download 11.09.1b2
Well, none of the HWIDs were removed. We consolidated the drivers and shuffled the supported HWIDs among the remaining drivers.
Your particular HWID got moved to an older driver, which you noticed doesn't work even though the .inf directly supports it.
This happens unfortunately because we don't have an arsenal of test machines at our disposal.
This is why sometimes a newer version may be a step-backwards, but the subsequent version fixes the bugs brought up in a major release.
Think of it as a "Tick-Tock" cycle. Major release, then a smaller bug-fix release.
I'll move your HWID from the 10.1 driver to the 10.6. All you need to do is test on your hardware (AHCI mode) and let us know if it works. If not, then we'll stick with the 10.1 drivers for that HWID.
Sure, I can try it if you're willing to test.
Mr.Tom wrote:What happened after 11.04? Something removed by accident, or was it just Intel?
After dpms 11.04, the Intel RST 10.1 drivers were replaced by the newer (and much stabler) 10.6 drivers. Not all the HWIDs moved to the new drivers so a few (like yours) were moved to the older v7 series.
OK, try this on for size!
download
OK, thank you for the detailed report. That gets us on the right track.
I'll try to scrape something together for you to test shortly.
Grabbing it since this morning. Download is slow. VM here we come!
Moved to "other".
This is a DriverPacks support forum. It's acceptable to ask for help AFTER using DriverPacks.
Lovin' the colorful adjectives. Thanks Mark.

Secret volcano lair is optional of course!
Implemented in DriverPack WLAN 11.09
This should be fixed in DriverPack WLAN 11.09
Implemented in DriverPack LAN 11.09
Implemented in DriverPack LAN 11.09
SourcePath = "c:\d\l\n\i386", SourceFile = "Ngrpci.sys"
That folder was removed and the files merged together. I'll have to modify the .inf to fix this.
This is NOT fixed in DriverPack LAN 11.09 final.
Moved to DriverPacks BASE forum from dpms.
No response. dpms 11.09 released.
This should be fixed in dpms 11.09. Marking as solved.
Yay, we're spammed again!
