Perhaps the "CC_0104" entries in the .Inf's are incorrect.
The file DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_1301b1\D\M\P\PBFSTTX2K.inf has had it's WHQL status invalidated in order to add that part of the HWID.

I haven't really offered anything, nor am i really in any position to do so.
The moderators & admins here are the ones with the clout to make you a member of the Testing Team.

Nor have "I" fixed anything; that is Damnation's fix.
I tried some other ideas, yet none of them "panned-out".

In addition, i was likely incorrect about certificates with 1024bit signatures, IIRC it was 512bit certificates that are now invalid (along with many of my assumptions).

Also, i aim to look further into that Promise PDC20378 RAID controller driver mentioned three months ago.

It's not used for both.  One ends in "CC_104" while the other ends in SUBSYS_xxxxxxxx.  Totally different.

Currently i have no access to a working display or audio device with an HDMI input.
BTW, I thought the third HD audio device was the HD modem.

Case in point:  the "Intel(R) Management Engine".

There exists a driver for this, including a COM-port over LAN driver.

There also exists a "Null-driver" to presumably (after config <ctrl>I) disable functionality, and the debateable risk to security it could pose to the unsuspecting.

Archiving it doesn't mean deleting it from a pack, it just means it wouldn't be installed by default, unless one were to previously extract it (& possibly remove the null-driver equivalent) and then to recompress the DriverPack.

What do you think?  I appreciate any response, even if it takes us on a tangent.

This is problematic for me as well, on the same model of Inspiron.

Thank you for pointing that driver out, that package has WHQL'ed 64bit components, as well.

[off-topic]

This is problematic on NT5 as well.  There it's a "Code 28".
Penryn works well (1-pin difference, "Test7"-N/C).

[/off-topic]

It's a "IDT STAC9220X5" or "SigmaTel 9205" according to version A17 BIOS setup.

If you have HDMI plugged into a display supporting audio, the SAD2 package will work correctly, i surmise.

There's far more in there than just "iohsata.sys".
None of it is WHQL'ed though nor are the executables signed, although that is understandable under the circumstances.
Would that fact preclude that driver's use in Win2k3_x86 ?

i presume the "Precision Time Protocol (PTP)" aka "IEEE 1588" belongs in LAN along with the "Intel(R) Platform Controller Hub EG20T Gigabit Ethernet Controller - 8802".  Others could be merged into Chipset, such as the "Intel(R) Platform Controller Hub EG20T I2C Controller - 8817" or the "Intel(R) Platform Controller Hub EG20T Packet Hub - 8801", or the SPI Bus driver.

Most, if not all, of these have somewhat equivalent "NullDrivers" to nullify their functionality (including the AHCI SATA Controller) for the following:

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8801.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) Platform Controller Hub EG20T Packet Hub - 8801 !"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8802.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) Platform Controller Hub EG20T Gigabit Ethernet Controller - 8802 !"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8803.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) Platform Controller Hub EG20T General Purpose IO Controller - 8803 !"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8808.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) Platform Controller Hub EG20T USB Client Controller - 8808 !"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_880B.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) Platform Controller Hub EG20T SATA AHCI Controller - 880B !"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8810.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) Platform Controller Hub EG20T DMA Controller #1 - 8810 !"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8811.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) Platform Controller Hub EG20T UART Controller - 8811 !"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8812.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) Platform Controller Hub EG20T UART Controller - 8812 !"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8813.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) Platform Controller Hub EG20T UART Controller - 8813 !"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8814.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) Platform Controller Hub EG20T UART Controller - 8814 !"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8815.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) Platform Controller Hub EG20T DMA Controller #2 - 8815"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8816.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) Platform Controller Hub EG20T Serial Peripheral Interface Bus - 8816 !"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8817.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) Platform Controller Hub EG20T I2C Controller - 8817 !"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8818.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) Platform Controller Hub EG20T Controller Area Network (CAN) Controller - 8818 !"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8819.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) Platform Controller Hub EG20T IEEE 1588 Hardware Assist - 8819 !"

Note the exclaimation mark at the end of the Description.  I don't know it's significance, yet i'm noting it just the same.

I wonder what the preference should be for integration, that the remaining could be archived.
This reminds me of the HECI controllers aka "Intel(R) Management Engine" & their equivalent "NullDrivers".

I wonder what it is that has worked for you, whl0806, without "leaking like a sieve"?
We do have the option, since none of this is WHQL, to "fine-tune" this in the .Inf's.

You could use the "D-P-C Driver Latency Tester" as a guide concerning system latency and drivers detrimental to system latency (for example: legacy-AtherosWLAN, s478-P4-Prescott-HT-on-some-implimentations, ALi/ULi USB, et al?).

Here is a festive picture from Yosemite, care of NASA's APOD.

"Ebenezer:  [from outside the main door]  Humbug!  Humbug!
[enters, holding a bag of candies]
[holds out the bag, in offering]  Humbug, Mr Baldrick?

Baldrick:  Oh, thank you very much.  [takes one]"

"Ebenezer:  [taking off his tall hat]  Oh, splendid! Let me see...
[opens up a card he has picked up from the desk]
"A Very Messy Christmas."  I'm sorry, Mr Baldrick -- shouldn't
       that be `merry'?

Baldrick:  "A Merry Messy Christmas"?  All right, but the main thing is that
it should be messy -- messy cake; soggy pudding; great big wet
       kisses under the mistletoe...

Ebenezer:  Yes... [going to hang up his coat and scarf]  I fear, Mr
Baldrick, that the only way you're likely to get a big wet
kiss at Christmas -- or, indeed, any other time -- is to make
a pass at a water closet.

However, be that as it may... [Baldrick gives him the card again]
"A Merry Messy Christmas."  `Christmas' as an H in it, Mr Baldrick.

Baldrick:  Oh...

Ebenezer:  ...and an R.  Also an I, and an S.  Also T and M and A...
...and another S.  Oh, and you've missed out the C at the
beginning.  Congratulations, Mr Baldrick!  Something of a
triumph, I think -- you must be the first person ever to
spell `Christmas' without getting any of the letters right at all."

Does it not depend upon the license model used?  I have only seen "©" mentioned as far as licensing is concerned associated with DP_BASE.  I could be wrong and if so, somebody should correct me.

There are many differing subsets of "open-source" software for instance, such as "BeerWare"?  smile
Mmmm.  "BeerWare"; D'OH!!!

Is it a "http://i.creativecommons.org/l/by/3.0/88x31.png Creative Commons License"?
http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/
There are license model that are even good for commercial use.

Does "http://mirrors.creativecommons.org/presskit/icons/nc.png, http://mirrors.creativecommons.org/presskit/icons/nc-eu.png, & http://mirrors.creativecommons.org/presskit/icons/nc-jp.png" represent "http://mirrors.creativecommons.org/presskit/icons/zero.png" for authors, "http://mirrors.creativecommons.org/presskit/icons/by.png"?
images from http://creativecommons.org/about/downloads/

Answer:  Not necessarily.  If i remember correctly, a variety of that license model allows an author to charge a "nominal" fee.  Once again, if i'm wrong about that, then somebody should correct me.

I could probably only barely guess the total number of man-hours DP_BASE represents, considering development.

Edit:  see "Common Misunderstandings of “Free Software” and “Open Source”"

Edit:  could you provide a link to that working driver?

Is it possible that your ICH8 NorthBridge is accompanied by an older SouthBridge?
Mr. Hinchliffe's SIV program lists the general DEVice as:

"82801FR/FRW (ICH6R/ICH6RW) SATA Controller"

Perhaps a "Dimension 8400"?

Any access available to Safe Mode?
If so, you could conceivably line up a list of drivers in folders to try from Safe Mode; try the whole list.

Maybe it's a long shot, but here's one driver for Intel with that HWid called "LSI MegaRAID IDE" here
It contains "PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2652&CC_0104.DeviceDesc= "Intel Embedded Server RAID Technology""

readme wrote:

"Though this driver may work with other versions of Windows, it has been validated with Windows Vista only."

.
Be prepared by backing up any sensitive data, as you may have to reinstall a few times.

Would you be willing and able to run a few tests and report back the results for each driver?
If so, briefly check the install capability for the non-RAID part of your system too; for verification.
Do that what it is that you can; that's been sufficient for most newbs here for the longest time....

I'd like to start the effort to make changes so that this works properly for you and others with similar hardware.

Edit:  Whoops, that should read "I'd like to make myself available to assist, if & when directed, to make changes.."; with respect to mr_smartepants.  My lack of "netiquette" had to be corrected.

would you be interested in testing a proposed fix candles?

Efforting to fix this within the next beta.
It seems that you have been very patient.

verified.  setupp.ini, then dosnet.inf

Edit:  Did OldB find one of those 1-in-a-million "bug"s in BASE?

Maybe i was a little hasty.

the other file was setupp.ini.  I have to read these as they load off the disc.
...venturing to get my camera's battery charged to "tape" it to be certain.

a look in layout.inf reveals no dosnet.inf reference.
here is the reference to setupp.ini:

setupp.ini   = 1,,63,,,,_x,,3,3

The full error screen reads:

Windows XP Professional Setup
==============================

Setup cannot find a previous version of Windows installed on your computer. To continue, Setup needs to verify that you qualify to use this upgrade product.

Please insert one of the following Windows product CDs into the CD-ROM drive: Windows XP Home Edition (full version), Windows XP Professional (full version), Windows 2000 Professional, Windows Millennium, Windows 98, Windows NT Workstation 4.0, Windows 95, or Windows NT Workstation 3.51.

     - When the CD is in the drive, press ENTER.
     - To quit Setup, press F3.

I copied layout.inf, dosnet.inf, & setupp.ini to the root of the thumbdrive to no avail.

one is dosnet.inf

I do not blame DP_BASE.  I "blame" Rufus.  Everything is the same other than the media used and file layout.
If i can find which two files are read from the disc, they can be manually copied onto the root of the thumbdrive, then this issue is history.

Installing from a DVD+RW worked like a charm.  Driver v7.8.0.1012 is installed; although not what i had hoped, yet understandable considering dps6AHCI, dps6Stor, dps7AHCI & dps7Stor.inf are non-WHQL'ed and depreciated by Windows because of this.

The "new" driver (v11.2) worked, yes, although i have to update it manually and both the driver and executable are seen as non-WHQL, despite the executables being signed.

=====================================================================

I have been able to replicate my issue of a non-visible HDD using AHCI.

I used the same ISO file as the one used successfully on a DVD+RW disc.
I used Rufus to burn this image on a thumbdrive.
It saw the partition that i wanted to install on, and had previously, configured as AHCI.
I deleted that partition after booting my thumbdrive.
I then created a new partition.
The next step was to restart using <F3>.

Upon restart, after the drivers loaded, i was presented with the same error message "Setup cannot find a previous version of Windows installed."

I restarted with the previously made DVD+RW (same ISO) and was greeted with a visible drive.
I deleted that partition and created a new one.

A restart with the thumbdrive instead of the DVD+RW yielded the same error.
At the error page (it requests the Windows CD, BTW) i inserted the disc, a couple of files were read, then the partition was visible.  The odd thing is that the thumbdrive is seen as a second drive, yet is listed first (that is the odd thing).

OldB wrote:

"I *then* used the tool at http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/120444- … -with-gui/ to transfer the folder onto a bootable USB memory stick.

When I use the stick in a Dell Inspiron 1525 set to IDE-mode then it all works but when I try it with the BIOS set to "[AHCI]"-mode the install fails as it tries to do the "final" boot."

It would seem that WinSetupUSB & Rufus might have a bug in common for at least this controller
on an Inspiron 1525.
  sad

Hello, i see a similar issue on my Inspiron 1525 (same HWid's as above).

Instead of $7B, i do not reach the partitioning phase.  I see "Setup cannot find a previous version of Windows installed."  I used Rufus to build my USB stick.  Textmode is using [I3], GUI to use dps6AHCI.inf within [I6].

When i burnt my newest image on a DVD+RW, textmode sees my HDD OK ([I3] for textmode, dps7AHCI.inf in [I7] for GUI).
