NO i don't belive this will work because Bâshrat the Sneaky requires the use of referers to prevent leaching

the method you are requesting is text book leeching. Bâshrat the Sneaky does not want the files leached.

good info... thanks for shareing!

It was my belief that the DriverPacks mass storage plugin was solid and working.
it theory it would already do everything neccessary to funtion in PE as well.

what are you refering to?

Hey guys i don't know if you were aware of it but the joshua plugin already adds support for the nvidia network drivers

you could just extract the pack to the network folder and then delete the nvidia folders entirely and rely on the joshua code

if you have ubcd4win his plugin is located at \plugin\Drivers\NForceAll-RIS

also this is a unified driver for nvidia originaly targeted for sysprep and PE that cdob found and joshua spent a lot of time tweaking to support all the Nvidia cards.

It may be that the files and INF's could replace the drivers we currently use. I am not certain and i dont have an nvidia lan card here so if one of you who does wants to take a look it may also be helpful to us as it has been for the BartPE and sysprep PE guys.

I updated your Bug report assigned it to myself
I have fixed the error in my local copy of the code
the fix will be included in the next release (soon)

I was able to duplicate your results...  checking further
the ARCSAS error is caused by an extra comma accidentally put in the mass storage inf for 7.12.1 here--->

that is easy to fix... and im sure was easy to miss for the team sorry

the other error has existed since the release of base 752 and hasn't been reported before so i guess it wasn't a show stopper.

I will absolutely fix this in the next base release - nice pickup - not even the UBCD4win team caught this one!

please report this as a bug with  bug tracker on this forum and i will assign it to myself.

thank you for your input... you have helped us to help you!

It helps tremendously - this is what Jaak and i have been talking about working towards for months...
Since you have made the pack compatible with PE you have saved me hundreds of lines of code in the base program itself!!!

This is a HUGE pickup - you have taken what would have taken me weeks to code and made it into a few hours work.
I will just need to create a double check routine in base to ensure that packs don't include duplicates and kick out a message if any are found.

Instead of having to create a routine to rename them and then programmatically update the infs with the base's internal code.
The brain is a much more powerful tool than anything I can write. although I had some ideas as to how it may have been possible it would obviously have been quite a task... as you now realize having done it yourself by hand.

Caveat - the LAN pack must be maintained this way from now on by the team.
if this is agreeable to everyone i can punch the LAN plug-in out in about a week give or take a few days.
Lets get this pack into the nightlies for testing - if this method doesn't break normal operation of the DriverPacks we are looking at pure gold!

Echo_Platoon since you are now on the DriverPacks Team You now have the permissions to be able to add this to nightlies yourself.
make sure that you give your pack a higher number than what is there like - DP_LAN_wnt5_x86-32_71230.7z
create a changelog and indicate which pack version (specificaly) you used as your starting point.

Congratulations on your promotion Corporal Echo_Platoon

Now that is what being a Team is all about - That's what I'm talkin about ! smile
Everyone give themselves a big round of applause and a pat on the back!

smile big_smile cool Woo Hoo!!! smile big_smile cool

Will a S.A.D. makes us happy?
Answer - Yes!

DriverPacks BASE now includes the Stand Alone Driver platform.

simply install DriverPacks per the tutorial and select the SAD option in DriverPacks BASE instead of Disc.
Note: it is not neccessary to have a source OS. That step can be skipped for SAD.

then burn the created DriverPacks.net folder to any local drive (ODD, ThumbDrive, USB HDD, ect...)
Note: Network locations will only work with M2...

Run DP_Install_Tool.cmd from the DriverPacks.net\ folder and all drivers on the current machine will be updated.

if you wish you can create an ODD with an Autorun.inf to call the .CMD file.  wink
can you say Automatic updater!

New SAD2 utility with NT5/NT6 (Vista/Win7) compatibility is here:

====================================================
ALL INFO BELOW HERE IS FOR REFERENCE AND IS OUT OF DATE as of Sept 2008 DriverPacks BASE 8.09
====================================================

If you have DP_Base version 8.x or newer then see the later post in this topic since DPInst is included.
http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic. … 159#p20159

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OLD DIRECTIONS BELOW ARE FOR MANUAL CREATION OF A 'SEARCHABLE' CD, or SAD Disk

the following directions are here now only for reference and background info

- click link above for up to date directions

- although the info is still all accurate, it is simplified by the DP_Install_Tool.cmd that is now included with DriverPacks BASE and added when the DriverPacks are slipstreamed. the DP_install_Tool automates the directions below. It is also no longer necessary to cab compress the files to make them fit on a CD the tool will extract them from an \OEM\ folder that has been copied to a CD from a DriverPacks slipstreamed source. (it will extract teh 7zip archived packs although this format is not "searchable" it is effective wink )

-------------------------- Searchable CD directions
this method fits all the main packs on a CD and DOES NOT require extraction from the CD to the local machine

for Manual Driver updates From a searchable ODD

To create a CD we must conserve space and CAB compress the drivers so they will actually fit on a CD
1) Run DriverPacks BASE as normal on any OS source folder useing Method 1 (M1).
Doing so will create "Source Folder \$OEM$\$1\D\"

2) Burn the \D folder from  "Source Folder \$OEM$\$1\" to a CD.

Notes:

It is not neccessary to select MassStorage Text-Mode for this and it will save a little time if you don't

Method One will cab compress the DriverPacks so they all will fit on a single CD.
All of the DriverPacks when simply extracted will require about  1.5 GB of disk space.
All of the DriverPacks when cab compressed by M1 only require about 500 MB of disk space.

The $OEM$\$1\D folder will contain a sub-folder for each type of DriverPack you selected in DriverPacks BASE.
If you wish you may select individual sub folders of the D\ folder for your "Drivers Only" CD.

-------------------------- Searchable DVD directions
When creating a DVD space is no longer a concern and no sense in wasting time with the cab compression.

for Manual Driver updates From a searchable ODD

1) Extract the packs to a temporary folder

2) Burn the \D folder to a DVD.

---------------------------How to Search your ODD

insert your CD/DVD in the PC and:
1. find the device manager items without correct drivers.
2. click "Update driver" for one of those items
3. click "Install from a list or specific location"
4. checkbox "Search removable media" and click next

-------------------------How to add the One Click update Option...

If you do not wish to manually install the drivers you may, if you wish, use the following method
This is based on info brought to our attention by one of our members - Warm Snow (WsnoW)
It uses the  MS dpinst tool  an excellent redistributable minisetup... TY MS! big_smile

1. Download http://3rdpartydriverpacks.thesneaky.co … /DPInst.7z

2. Extract DPINST.exe and DPInst.xml to the same folder as \D

3. To use it simply double click on the DPInst.exe file and click the next button!

.... ahhh curious why i said one click when that is obviously three clicks...

4. for True One Click updateing one must add DPInst.exe to autorun.inf in the root of the disc - wink big_smile

----------------------------How to More add even more Options...

=======
THUMBDRIVE S.A.D.
For thumbdrive with 2Gb or better.
- Really this will make any disk a "drivers only disk" or SAD disk simply copy to that media. wink
  -  Special note Network locations are not advisable...
the OS gets a little annoyed when the chipset and or the NIC drivers are being updated,
this has been known to make the drivers unavailable in the middle of updateing them. roll big_smile

See DVD instructions 1. and 2.  and How to add the One Click update Option 1. and 2.

The D\ folder must be a subfolder of the one that contains the DPINST.exe and DPInst.xml files ! ! !
If you wish to rename the D\ folder you will have to edit the DPInst.XML file,  and hopefully rtfm wink

-------------------Unnattended Option:

create a .CMD file (or if you dare tongue... an Autorun.inf) with the following line --->  DPInst.exe /c /s

/c enables logging to the command window (the install is totaly silent without this switch - progress window)
/s enables silent mode (no GUI / Unattended)

Quite simple to do

1) Run DriverPacks BASE as normal on any OS source folder useing Method 1 (M1).
Doing so will create "Source Folder \$OEM$\$1\D\"

2) Burn any or all of the driver folders that are in the $OEM$\$1\D folder to a CD.

Notes:

It is not neccessary to select MassStorage Text-Mode for this and it will save a little time if you don't

Method One will cab compress the DriverPacks so they all will fit on a single CD.
All of the DriverPacks when un-7zipped  will  require about  1.5 GB of disk space.
All of the DriverPacks when cab compressed require about 500 MB of disk space.

The $OEM$\$1\D folder will contain a sub-folder for each type of DriverPack you select in dp-b.
If you wish you may select individual sub folders of the D\ folder for your "Drivers Only" CD.

after finished do this:
1. find the device manager items without correct drivers.
2. click "Update driver" for one of those items
3. click "Install from a list or specific location"
4. checkbox "Search removable media" and click next

Second time this topic is stickied... please use the search feature
I have now added this to the FAQ thread as well and will update that version as needed.
no need to apogize for your english - we realize that not everyones native language is english.

Nice smile

also note that windows will run in 640 x 480 mode unless you tweak something.
once setup is finished a dialog box will come up and report that your screen resolution is too low and if clicked will attempt to set it to 800 x 600

these things all being true  -  We have no clue what you are refering to.

driverpacks in no way will set your screen res or refresh nor do we have plans to add that feature.

PS it is a lot easier to help you if you actually give us some information about what you did and how you did it
hwids - at te very least what video card it is and what monitor you have.
base (and version)
packs (including versions) used
how the problem can be reproduced
what other programs you are running (RVM, Hfslip, nLite, WPI)
ect...

I am also not aware of any OEM or reference video driver or monitor drivers that will by default select the highest setting available.

{confused} and quite certain your problem lies elsewhere - maybe the settings in winntsif Mr_smartepants refered to are set wrong (possably by you with nLite) or WPI can do this (also requireing you to set it that way) or perhaps some other program you are useing.

windows and all video and monitor drivers default to 640x480 and then suggest that this is to low and that 800x600 or better is recomended. and even then you must click on a dialog to acheive the higher setting.

IE the request you made is already the default - and is not now - and will not in the future be affected by DriverPacks

The lowest possible video mode should be chosen. Let the user choose a higher mode later.

That is the way things are now... we know of no exception to this (unless ther is user intervention or some third party software is used)
If you can cite an exception to this then i belive you are alone in experiencing it. If you need help then you need to give a LOT more detail.

that was very nice of you Mr_smartepants to give links
and Tigerc10 is correct
@tiger well said too.

thanks for helping us to help you !

good info and feedback - we will keep at it till its gold!

you cant support the primary hard drive useing a 3rd party DriverPack .... why ? what's the difference ? I had the idea to do something like is alredy made with
iastor55.inf (rename the driver and use it for particullar HWID only)

Only the mass storage pack is used to slipstream text mode drivers. (enableing you to select it as a destination for your OS)
you can use a 3rd party DriverPack to add a driver for a mass storage controller that you do not wish to boot from.
But it won't be used for the bartpe plugin. Only the Mass Storage pack is used for BartPE - Period.

trust me i completely rewrote the mass storage module for base and just finished writing the XP SP3 code.
I am not just making it up I am one of the programmers for base and am THE one who wrote the BartPE plugin for driverpacks.

Of course i have old builds, i am not so stupid, but i don't want go back to self made drivers pack; i think thas is spur track.

How was i to know you had old builds you said you were new here!
I did not suggest that you go back to a self made pack and i didn't suggest you were stupid
in fact i think i complimented you by saying if you could add drivers to bartpe then you could edit mass storage - which is not easy.
I suggested you use an older official pack to get you up and running imediately while we fixed the issue.
You indicated that time was critical... well a known good working version that you already have is as fast as it gets.
Useing an old pack is good advice for a person in a hurry, and your comment was a disrespectful thing to say to me.
now that i know your a veteran i will expect more of you. wink including some manners.

it was hector who posted the hwids in the other post...  sorry!

I know I have been using MS since DOS 1
it was just an FYI... wink for the masses

that is cut and pasted from the info in the PDF on the MS site...
Overview of Windows XP Service Pack 3.pdf
(at the bottom of the page)
If it isn't working you have found yet another bug in SP3 RC1 -
you should report it to MS on technet
http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/Sho … ;SiteID=17

I also found this on tech net...

?? Does SP3 RC1 have a time limit ??
Yes it does . You didnt really think we would issue a beta/RC without a time bomb in it did you?
180 days each of the releases times out. After that you will have to move to the final release version.

and post the hwid's

I fixed the permissions you should be able to get there now!

i am so used to locking things down its hard to go the other way LOL

@Hector always put

username and passwords in code tags

i emailed it to you ...

ps the pack is unchanged except it has been renamed to be 8.2 compatable filename in OEM folder just have to  rename it back to original name to reuse it with base or copy it over as is to OEM in new cd.

ah i assume from your post you used method 1 otherwise you could just copy it off the cd (in the OEM folder)...
look on my ftp site (link above) MassStorage 7.092 is right there for the grabbing

ther will be a new nightly with it but it may be tommorow or the next day but the old one can be had now...

bump

anyone!
