Now that XP SP3 is widely available, how about a modification of DP Base so it will see SP3 and not error with KB888111 saying SP1 or SP2 not installed.

@ BigBrit

Why did you put a post about windows XP in the Vista thread???

XP sp3 is not officially released yet. When it is, then we will add that.
(is there anything less stable than a microsoft beta?)
The code for detecting it will depend on its format, which is not finalized yet.

IE i dont want to write a hundred of lines of code twice. especially when it may introduce problems in an otherwise stable release. the mere fact that we havent had any bugs reported since the last release is reason enough. "If it ain't broke dont fix it."

Hi Overflow,

I don´t mean any disrespect, just a suggestion:

It may be a good idea to prepare for the launch of SP3 by adding the necessary code a little in advance and play with the SP3 RC1 a little. It is RC1, not beta and I am sure the detection of a new SP will not change that much from RC to RTM.

You guys could put out a beta DP release, so people who do test the SP3 can test it and report feedback prior to the launch of SP3. If you only start working when SP3 is released you won´t have that much time to fix bugs and people might become impatient because they might have slipstreamed SP3 already and won´t have a working DP release to go with it.

Anyway, thanks for your work on the DP´s ....

My personal wish would be a complete DP solution for Vista but that´s far away I guess ... :-)

Bye,
Alex

That's actually not that bad an idea.  SP3 is supposed to be released in 2008 (As early as Jan...as late as Dec!).  It's encouraging to see it go RC1 this early, which means very little will change to the content, only bug-fixes at this point.  SP3 RC1 is a restricted download at the moment (I've got mine), but RC2 will probably go public either Jan or Feb so we'll have loads of testers available.

At the very least, having a DPBase beta will allow you to refamiliarize yourself with the code and there are many people with fresh ideas for the DPBase.

Something to ponder.

Vista support is still a ways off, but getting closer.

As XP SP3 is now RC1 I agree the code is almost Gold.

I need rc1 to get the beta started

Re: [IMPLEMENTED] Windows XP Service Pack 3 Support

And from what I've read, KB888111 has NOT been included...

(I already installed SP3RC1 on my system but since it does not feature a HDA device nor was it a slipstream installation, but a regular one, I cannot confirm this yet).

FWIW, the Vista SP1 RC has also been released to public (don't have link ATM)...

not a redistributable file, but a registry patch to allow a 'customized' download through MU based on your platform.

Re: [IMPLEMENTED] Windows XP Service Pack 3 Support

Until MS makes a SP3 version of KB888111, you will need to install it before you apply SP3. If you slipstream SP3 into XP it does not seem to work.

The file for SP2 should work fine but it does a version check. So someone would have to hack the SP2 KB888111 to remove the version check section.
Yes I know, only fully certified KB's are allowed.

Since SP3 is not yet final MS won't make a new KB888111 until SP3 ships, not sure why they did not build KB888111 into SP3.

I will try KB835221 which is an earlier version of the HDA drivers as a slipstream over the weekend.

Workaround is:

Extract the files from KB888111 and find US (2 x files), download Realtek HiDef Zip and unzip to the HD. In Device Manager "uninstall" the Yellow Device, run the US "install", it will then ask for a file location, point it to the Realtek folder. If it does not ask for a file location just run the "Setup" file in the Realtek folder.

I put the whole thing on a flash drive.

Hope this helps.

Re: [IMPLEMENTED] Windows XP Service Pack 3 Support

This might help some people.  I'll take the addon apart and maybe get some insight on how to make our DriverPacks better.

A post from RyanVM's forums:

An addon to fix the 888111 problem!

integrate this on your SP3 source.

Re: [IMPLEMENTED] Windows XP Service Pack 3 Support

so can we use DP successfully for XPSP3 after integrating 888111 addon?

If it is, it does not work with anything I am doing. Maybe it's me, but it's not working.

Re: [IMPLEMENTED] Windows XP Service Pack 3 Support

i added the 888111 addon from the link above to nlite after slipstreaming SP3 and then applyed driverpacks. During DP integration, it just said 888111 cannot be slipstreamed and i clicked "ok". it finished the rest of the tasks. uA installation just went fine.

I have a feeling that if the Base is modified so the version check includes SP3, it should work.
It should only involve 3 or 4 lines of code and minimal testing ( I will happily test)

We need Bâshrat the Sneaky to do this as he maintains the Base.

Re: [IMPLEMENTED] Windows XP Service Pack 3 Support

@BigBrit  excuse me... perhaps you havent been paying attention to what is going on around here.
I belive i am the last and the only one maintaining the base at the moment that is why i started this thread so i could get what i needed to do this. the key phrase there "what I need to do this" Please Read the last line in post three above.

Re: [IMPLEMENTED] Windows XP Service Pack 3 Support

My apologies. I didn't realize that Bâshrat the Sneaky had handed it over to you or just dropped it into your lap.
I have been off the forum for some time after a serious car accident (not my fault).

Please do not feel offended or angry, quite simply, I did not know.
I will try and help anyway I can with this SP3 thing.

Believe me, everybody is grateful for all work put into this project and I commend you for taking on a almost thankless task.

Anyway, this is what I have so far:

KB888111 must work with SP3 as I have been able to run it after a full SP3 slipstream with Driverpacks installed.

The Realtek sound driver loads just fine afterwards and I assume that other Hi-Def sound cards will as well.

Can you create a version of the Base that loads KB888111 even if it does NOT find SP1, SP2. (remove the KB888111 ver. check)
During a Driverpack integration, a warning comes up and says that SP1 or SP2 is not installed so KB888111 will NOT be slipstreamed.

I can test very easily at the moment as I have a PC on the bench that has Realtek Hi-Def.

Re: [IMPLEMENTED] Windows XP Service Pack 3 Support

With respect to the addon, I believe you need to integrate it AFTER SP3 has already been integrated.  The addon entries file has a check for SP3 or the integration will fail.  You can't integrate this addon with SP3 at the same time.  Also, this addon was built for use with the RVMIntegrator, but should work with nLite too.
All it does is replace files in the source with the files from kb888111.  There's no .exe to run or svcpack interaction.
From what I understand, M$ will probably update kb888111 or (my hope) include the patch/functionality into sp3 once public feedback is analyzed (there WILL be feedback on this).

On a side-note, Bâshrat the Sneaky hasn't abandoned this project, he's just very, very busy.
Overflow (Jeff), just like myself and others here, have been entrusted with the management of the project in his absence.  We do our best, but we are all volunteers and use our own personal time for these efforts.
Give us a break, OK?

Re: [IMPLEMENTED] Windows XP Service Pack 3 Support

Thanks for your input, I knew Bâshrat the Sneaky was busy, his posts reflect that.

Thanks for the info on the Addon, found it at,

http://red.caek.org/addons/Universal_Au … dOn_1.0.7z

I know that maintaining a system like this is incredibly hard work and I would like to thank all of you for doing it.

I will test the above Addon and will report back with the results. Maybe a post in the News section to help others !!!

Thanks for your help

Re: [IMPLEMENTED] Windows XP Service Pack 3 Support

I am sorry to hear you had an car accident. I hope all is well now.

I volunteered for the task last year when I wrote the BartPe Plugin. There are many posts about my contributions. I assumed with so many references in base and on the forums that it was well known I code Base. It wasn't handed over or dropped in my lap. I just felt the need to contribute and by pure luck this just happened to coincide with Bâshrat the Sneaky getting swamped at College. I suppose because it is such a thankless job I was very offended. Other than a handful of people who helped me from the UBCD4Win forum and Bâshrat the Sneaky himself no one has said thanks. On the other hand I have had no bug reports and no errors reported for over a year in my coding of base. I have had a few requests like this for new stuff but perhaps you can now understand why my motivation could go right in the toilet when there is not even a thank you waiting at the end of hundreds of hours of coding and not even getting reconized for the hundreds of hours already invested.

I belive what I see. I see hundreds of requests for free work almost no contributions to the forum and only a handful of people even willing to signup for the testing team to test our test packs. and speaking of test packs when was the last time anyone thanked them (other than other team members). it is not an almost thankless job it is a thankless job. I don't blame Bâshrat the Sneaky one bit for putting his personal goals ahead of this project. Your post almost made me join him.

Furthermore when i added the BartPE plugin i only added about 200 lines of code but i had to rewrite another thousand lines of code that were not up to my standards. some of this code was inherited by Bâshrat the Sneaky when he took on this project and was pretty sloppy. This was Bâshrat the Sneaky's first program that he ever wrote and he was like 14 years old. Some of that code was terrible - although fuctional - it needed to be totaly rewritten. So you dismiss this work as easy since it only requires a few lines, but where to put those lines in the 30 or 40 thousand lines of code and hundreds of modules that exist? and how many hundereds of lines that have to be rewritten to add them. You have no idea what you are asking or what I must do to accomplish this task. You easily dissmiss and diminish the tremendous amount of work / programming required.

@ all- I am sorry I let my temper get the best of me, but I have to be true to myself. this certainly wasn't directed at Mr_smartePants or jaak or muiz or any team member - you guys are in the trenches and understand all to well what i am feeling. I am only human and i do have feelings and emotions. I am sorry i was unble to keep them in check today. perhaps i am just wound a little to tight because of things in my own personal life and i shouldn't let that spill over here.

jeff

I did not mean to anger or discourage anybody, I have the greatest respect and admiration for all the contributors to the code and driverpack sections.

I did give money to the cause and if you check I am/was on the Testing Team.

As with yourself, I have also been on the crap end of things and may know a little of what you are feeling.

Thanks for the comment re: accident. I had a serious back injury and broken bones and have just got the feeling back in my arms and hands, nice Christmas present, took 6 months and I had to learn to walk again.
It's nice to be able to type and use a mouse again.

I for one would like to say, thank you for the work you and all the others do.

Re: [IMPLEMENTED] Windows XP Service Pack 3 Support

Well I tried the following:

Downloaded KB888111 Addon from the site I listed.

Used Nlite 1.4.1 to integrate SP3 (used in prior tests, works OK)

Nlite to integrate the KB888111 Addon

Slipstream Driverpacks.

During the install I got and error that 5 files were missing, all those files are from the 888111 Addon. It did not integrate correctly.

Will try the following in the morning:

Re-download the Addon (may have been corrupted)

Nlite SP3

Use RyanVM Integrator to integrate the Addon

Slipstream Driverpacks.

Enjoy your weekend, try a couple on pints of beer and a Scotch !!!!
