lightsout, are you ready for some AutoIt programming?

I've used AutoIT to automate software installation, but I could give it a go.

The main thing is working out exactly how to insert drivers into the image.

Nope, that's properly documented this time smile And the snippet muiz posted (written by a friend of muiz) does it already. We just have to integrate it properly into the BASE *and* provide more options (but that's phase #2).

if you need help you can ask me too.
I am learning my way around the base pretty well.

As I use the DriverPacks in a SMS OSD, I don't use the BASE at all actually. smile I'm happy to hack around with AutoIT mind, so I'll take a look at the script muiz posted.

Re: OPEN: Windows Vista support [APPROVED]

I'll be glad to do it once i have the bart stuff on the run and sp1 should be soon

Re: OPEN: Windows Vista support [APPROVED]

Most annoying is the Vista driver signing or the lack of bypassing this atm.

Re: OPEN: Windows Vista support [APPROVED]

Ok time is there.......

I managed to slipstream the drivers and i must say... works like a charm.
Ive done lots of tests

Now its time to start collecting Vista drivers.

When use WHQL drivers there will be no driver signing...

Tested on many computers here....

Re: OPEN: Windows Vista support [APPROVED]

Hi !

Any news on the status of the driverpacks for Vista project? I could do some betatesting if you guys still need someone. I have finally started creating Vista unattended images for deployment via DVD and WDS and the only thing missing are driverpacks :-)

Have a nice day !
Alex

Re: OPEN: Windows Vista support [APPROVED]

muiz, thanks for posting that code!

I tried running the AutoIt 3 code but the GUI popped up this error...

http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/406/xmlerrorhu6.png

VISTASRC is my "Vista Source".

I searched the folder with the mounted image and theres no "Drivers.xml" file anywhere.

Totally confused about this XML file, how to create it etc sad

Isn't it a generic file considring that all standard (untouched) Vista Ultimate DVD's have the same drivers?

Has anyone got this "Drivers.xml" file?

The code I used is the exact code muiz posted on the previous page, except I didn't have the WAIK installed so I dumped a load of files in a "TOOLS" folder and changed a few things in the very beginning of the code, put that TOOLS folder next to the compiled AutoIt3 file.

The only thing stopping me is this damn "Drivers.xml" file.

I don't know where it comes from, or why the au3 code has a reference to it.

Surely anyone else trying to do this is having this exact problem?

Theres no "Drivers.xml" file on the root of the Vista DVD, but the au3 code expects that file to be there!

Re: OPEN: Windows Vista support [APPROVED]

Let me know if I can be of any help. The biggest problem is that certain companies (CMI) refuse to even make Vista drivers and others make great unsigned drivers. Windows Update generally does a good job but they are XP drivers. How do I know that? They are dated 2005 so that's a clue. I've tried slipstreaming those and oh boy what a mess. The biggest issue I've seen on my site is raid drivers though, so if you need help collecting them or anything else, I'll do whatever I can.

Re: OPEN: Windows Vista support [APPROVED]

Now that XP SP3 is widely available, how about a modification of DP Base so it will see SP3 and not error with KB888111 saying SP1 or SP2 not installed.

Re: OPEN: Windows Vista support [APPROVED]

@ BigBrit

Why did you put a post about windows XP in the Vista thread???

XP sp3 is not officially released yet. When it is, then we will add that.
(is there anything less stable than a microsoft beta?)
The code for detecting it will depend on its format, which is not finalized yet.

IE i dont want to write a hundred of lines of code twice. especially when it may introduce problems in an otherwise stable release. the mere fact that we havent had any bugs reported since the last release is reason enough. "If it ain't broke dont fix it."

Re: OPEN: Windows Vista support [APPROVED]

Hi Overflow,

I don´t mean any disrespect, just a suggestion:

It may be a good idea to prepare for the launch of SP3 by adding the necessary code a little in advance and play with the SP3 RC1 a little. It is RC1, not beta and I am sure the detection of a new SP will not change that much from RC to RTM.

You guys could put out a beta DP release, so people who do test the SP3 can test it and report feedback prior to the launch of SP3. If you only start working when SP3 is released you won´t have that much time to fix bugs and people might become impatient because they might have slipstreamed SP3 already and won´t have a working DP release to go with it.

Anyway, thanks for your work on the DP´s ....

My personal wish would be a complete DP solution for Vista but that´s far away I guess ... :-)

Bye,
Alex

That's actually not that bad an idea.  SP3 is supposed to be released in 2008 (As early as Jan...as late as Dec!).  It's encouraging to see it go RC1 this early, which means very little will change to the content, only bug-fixes at this point.  SP3 RC1 is a restricted download at the moment (I've got mine), but RC2 will probably go public either Jan or Feb so we'll have loads of testers available.

At the very least, having a DPBase beta will allow you to refamiliarize yourself with the code and there are many people with fresh ideas for the DPBase.

Something to ponder.

Vista support is still a ways off, but getting closer.

WHOOPS  -  I didn't realize I had posted in the Vista section.

As XP SP3 is now RC1 I agree the code is almost Gold.

And if the Mod Management on this Forum was just a bit more decent, I'd move all the relating posts over for a proper new topic, but I'm afraid doing that now will break more than it helps decreasing the already caused confusion... hmm

That's because the link leads to the "Testing Team" area where most do not have access.
