As far as we know this is related to sysprep only...

This is the best place / forum for Sysprep

it looks as though you tested my idea exactly the way i thought it might be made to work...
Sadly not all of my ideas are good ones... but nothing ventured, nothing gained. wink

users who test and give feedback rock too!

As always... well said Helmi!

Your Idea is sound but is not as easy to make work as it is to describe. wink

Investigating...

Guesses made: ????
1) BASE 8.0x series
2) WLAN DP_WLAN_wnt5_x86-32_806.7z
3) XP PRO SP3
4)
  a) drivers were extracted to a DVD
  b) M1 install exists on a local cd/dvd
  c) DP_Install_Tool.cmd was run from local / removable media
5) you have a F5D7000 model belkin

Generic matches in W\L3, W\R3 and W\SuH based on a HWID of VEN_1814&DEV_0201

the closest one to matching IS in R3 but it is not a match

w\r3 has PCI\VEN_1814&DEV_0201&SUBSYS_700A1799
We need PCI\VEN_1814&DEV_0201&SUBSYS_700A1599  sad

You will need to provide a link to the driver you know works for this device... so we can get it added...

In answer to your question;
Since your HWID is not specifically included PnP may not select or use this driver
...you could try sneaking your hardware ID into that inf and see if it plays...  wink
This will break driver signing sad so we hope you willl try to find a valid driver for us to add to DriverPacks WLAN

"I believe the registry changes need to be in the master image prior to running sysprep in order for it to be a valid test."

I agree... let us know and well see what our options are from there...

re -  Is it safe to use 8.06C or should I wait...

The only way packs become final is if we recieve posts from users saying there are no issues. It's a perfect opprtunity to help yourself - try it... and if it works let us know it did.

we get a critical mass of positive feed back on teh test packs and BAM it's a release.

And post your hwids with your feedback if you want to see us do a little dance of happyness wink

RE - make the system look in the 620 folder first, then the 755

break signing on the 755 by deleteing the cat file this will lower its PnP "rating"
this will likely force the 620 to be 'prefered' to the 755.

you alternately can tweak the INI's list of HWID's, which will also break signing wink

lets try the basics... n
o graphics packs at all - then manually install the dell driver.

success or failure?

the main problem is when chipset driver and LAN drivers load you are temporarily disconnected from the server and your drivers.

you wrote:

"Running a winnt32.exe /unattend:winnt.sif Windows XP Pro installation on the latest output gives me an an error message that Setup cannot copy the file setupORG.exe.  Then if I escape that it says it cannot copy presetup.cmd. "

1 winnt32.exe is not supported - we use a custom setup.exe with method 2.

It calls presetup.cmd and then calls setuporg.exe which is the original windows setup.exe that we renamed. It is neccessary to do this in order to allow presetup.cmd to extract the drivers to the local machine ( C:\D\ ) BEFORE hardware detection begins.
put another way - The original setup.exe (setuporg.exe) is called by our dummy setup.exe after the packs are extracted and their location is added to the registry.

2 Setup cannot copy xxxxxxx.xxx
Enough said... self explanatory

Try the search feature of our forum this is well documented in several places already
try searching on the keyword RIS or look around in the Universal Imaging forum
otherwise i will be forced to repeat myself... repeat myself... again...  wink lol

have a great day big_smile

in order to enable the repair option you must remove the entire [Unattended] section...

(you were VERY close to having figured it out on your own)
DriverPacks is primarily aimed at unattended setup so the settings are optimized for that
but this will work jsut fine if you select; method 2, and guirunonce for the DriverPacks finisher

Welcome, have a great day, thanks for providing good details as it leads to good answers!

I was suggesting that you make your own 3rd party DriverPack -
but i was under the impression you already had one that did work for you.

instructions for that are here --> http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=279

if you need help i will be here...

i have been waiting for Ryan... but I'll give it a try (have you tried this yet?)

Looks awesome if it works a WOW is definitely in order

Welcome aboard and we're glad your here

see autoimage by roguespear

he uses DriverPacks with ris... and it works great.

a popular setup here is this

RyanVM
nLite
DriverPacks
WPI (Windows Post Installer)

Thanks fragbert i keep tellig people newer is not neccessarily better... ususaly they are not, at least not initialy

stable is better than current any day!

(let some other poor SOB be the guinnea pig for the beta an let him deal with the bugs
When it's stable then we add it.)

i thinkk it is like bragging rights to some of these bozos... I got the latest driver I RULE!... Uh no you got a broken PC. LOL

ps i have yet to have a device run any faster because i updated a driver. "If it Ain't Broke Dont Fix It!"

pss Kirge were you have some issue/problem with the old driver? (i didnt think so) http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=1139

Laptops quite frequently will only work if installed with the OEM providers drivers.

We extensively use reference drivers
what if we had to use every individual nvidia manufacturers drivers in the packs  (they would be twenty times the current size)

the problem is Laptop manuracturers will normaly drasticaly mod thier chips (to reduce power consuption or heat... wahtever)

the best solution is to make a 3rd party DriverPack that includes your specific laptops driver.

it is the manufacurers fault / error if a given device will not run a reference driver correctly.
if we tried to support every laptop available then our packs would be ten gig instead of 300meg

Laptops are a PITA i suggest that you create a 3rd party DriverPack for this driver and call it a day.
If we get a lot of requests for this particular one it may eventually end up in a main pack.
that is not likely because it will then cause conflicts / issues for the drivers that we do include.

if you are able to figure out why the included (reference) driver fails we may be able to make an exception in our packs to address it. IE there is a setup.exe that runs in addition to the driver that will make the reference driver work.
then we could test to see if it is needed and run it. wink

you will need to tell us since we don't have this laptop ourselves to play with...

let me know if i can help in any way

Laptops are always a PITA... try adding the OEM dell driver to your own 3rd party DriverPack

let us know if that helps. it is very common for dells to only like OEM dell drivers.
I ahve more than once seen a dell reject a generic driver (by behaving strangely)

you're always a welcome sight here! We miss you and many of the other founders of this and other great UXP projects.

I understand as much as anyone that we (me, you, Wim, Signet, Ryan, ect) only have so much time for volunteer work.

It is truly awesome when you stop by, even if it is only briefly. you're a hero in my book sir!

Thanks for your kind words, and my best wishes for you.

which is exactly why we use single letter path names IE c:\d\ instead of c:\driverpacks\

perhaps your comment will be taken to heart by the OP

you can lead a horse to water... lol

the native driver IS the original driver by 3com - where do you think MS got it from... wink

Since the windows drivers work and are already integrated there is no need for them to be redundantly included in the DriverPacks.
(this also reduces the size of our packs)
the driverpacks are a supplement to the included drivers not replacement for them.
that is the way the DriverPacks were designed and the way they are intended to be used.
This is normaly not an issue becuse most of these drivers are for support of legacy hardware.
IE most of the included drivers have not been updated in years and probably never will be again.

We have a saying where I'm from "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"... tongue

you can remove the native drivers if you wish, but you will also be giving up support of the hardware that they cover.
(like the 3c905 series NIC)

jojo

3com is included in XP - this driver is directly supported by XP -
it does not need to be added to the packs because it is already included with windows XP .

if you doubt me try an install with an unaltered OEM XP CD. I am sure you will find it is natively supported.

again please dont remove native windows drivers before or after adding DriverPacks.

normally adding driverpacks will make that key over 6000 characters

that is the important part of the finisher... did it remove the \D folder and the finisher after a reboot?
It indicates it staged that to happen.

yes the bin folder being on the destination drive is not a DriverPacks function and therfore must be AutoImage related.
and that is definately not a DriverPacks presetup.cmd. wink

Tell RogueSpear hello from his good freinds here at DriverPacks since he hasn't dropped by recently.

yay! good bye tent! hello bed and shower!

Glad your home safe and thanks for everything you do.

PS now you can check out that page i set up for you wink

SysPrep is not technically supported by DriverPacks...
We will be adding support for it at some time in the future.

We do have quite a following of SysPrep users and you may very well get some awsome tips...

I am moving this to the appropriate forum 'Universal Imaging'.

Best of luck to you and thanks for providing such excellent details about your process. I am sure that you have given a good enough of a description that someone will setp up with the advice you need.

Have a great day and welcome to DriverPacks!

Vista is not supported at all by us...

and our helpfulness is limited to users of the DriverPacks software (our program and the packs)

sorry your post is not appropriate or relevant to our forum - topic moved to 'other'

Best of luck on your quest...
