Re: Graphics A 8.09rc4 for testing purposes (REPORTS wanted)

I'd like you leave it out of the pack.

Thanks for the good work.

Re: Graphics A 8.09rc4 for testing purposes (REPORTS wanted)

Yes I agree leave it out can't wait to test out the new pack will you be uploading it today?

Soon...soon...
I'm pruning the .infs now.
I'll upload tomorrow if all tests go well.

Re: Graphics A 8.09rc4 for testing purposes (REPORTS wanted)

disc install never had all cpl applets in many of the DriverPacks.

If we, for the sake of argument, choose to have ALL CPL applet installers in ALL DriverPacks, we would find missing CPL in LAN (quite some), WLAN (quite some), SOUND ( erm, over 200 ??).

I dunno.
The need of the masses (disc install) is not decided by a few REQ.

The answer was 42?

Re: Graphics A 8.09rc4 for testing purposes (REPORTS wanted)

Hmhmhm, it doesn't really have much to do with GFX, now does it?
Basically, it's only to support/relief the CPU from physics calculations, so by that definition it would rather fit into DriverPack Chipset than any of the DPGs.

OTOH, it's not really a widespread feature from what I've gathered.
Isn't the idea that only if you use SLI (or more) cards that you can dedicate one for Physx calc?
Are there really any applications other than games that make use of it?
I'd guess that our main user base is sys admins deploying in large companies rather than hardcore gamers.

And last but no least, the driver itself, does it come in the INF/SYS shape?
Last time I was fiddling with these Aegia drivers, there was only an installer but no way to even find out there was an INF, so it's not a driver by the conventional standard.

Anyway, why not include it into a 3rd party DriverPack?
if folks want it they can grab it but it does not bloat up the official packs (where most professional users may not want it anyway).

Re: Graphics A 8.09rc4 for testing purposes (REPORTS wanted)

The PhysX installer is a monolithic .exe called by the finisher.  I was using the presence of nv4_mini.sys as a trigger for the DriverPacks Finisher to call the installer with the /qb switch.
I was going to leave it out anyway unless there was a massive amount of people wanting it installed...I guess nobody wants it.  smile
Because it offloads the physics calcs from the CPU to the GPU, it's GPU specific.  From what I've read, it's only supported by nvidia 8xx0 and 9xx0 series GPUs (but can be hacked to work on others).

Anyway, the BSOD problem was caused by G_A 8.09b \A1\mobility.inf.  Remove mobility.inf and zero problems.
I know this works because I'm using my test-bed to type this now. big_smile

I'm debugging now...

Re: Graphics A 8.09rc4 for testing purposes (REPORTS wanted)

I have played a couple of games that use the emulator... there is actaully a daughter card for PhysX much the same way as the old VooDoo cards...

I say if you need it (and it is unlikely that most of our audience will) you can put it in your own 3rd party DriverPack and every one can get waht they want... wink  Perhaps ef we asked mr_smartepants real nice he will even make the 3rd party DriverPack for us?

What's everyone's opinion on the Nvidia PhysX installer?  Should it be included in our DriverPacks release?  Or leave it as a separate installer (d/l from Nvidia).
It's an extra 50MB (uncompressed) that will have to go somewhere.  I'd prefer to leave it out.  Smaller d/l sizes are also a priority.
Let the masses decide...

Oh totally add it! It does no harm on unsupported hardware and is a nice perk to have. For formality's sake, it *IS* part of nvidia's official whql driver now, so if that's the motto we stick with...

Actually, PhysX is NOT part of the latest WHQL beta v177.98 (included in the forthcoming 8.09d).  I have a separate installer for it.
Who knows what Nvidia will do when they go final with their unified drivers.

If PhysX is integrated into their drivers, I'll add it in.
If it's a separate installer (like it is now), I'll make a 3rd party dp.  Maybe a Graphics_D? wink

Everyone happy? smile

Sounds like a plan! big_smile

Re: Graphics A 8.09rc4 for testing purposes (REPORTS wanted)

Sorry to keep everyone waiting.  I'm still having problems with BSOD triggered by the \A1\ files.  I'm starting from square-zero to iron it out.  BTW, ATI removed a whole bunch of supported HWIDs from their mobile drivers.  I can compensate for that, but if driver-signing is critical then I recommend sticking with Catalyst 8.7 which is the last version to cover all the mobile chips.

The WHQL beta 177.98 drivers in \N1\ are working well for me, but they're still beta (even if they are WHQL) which precludes us from using them (mantra: NO beta!).
So it looks like unless nvidia comes out with a unified driver by the end of the month, we won't be able to go final release until at least 8.10 sad

Re: Graphics A 8.09rc4 for testing purposes (REPORTS wanted)

OK, just to keep everyone updated on my progress, I've had two successful tests and one failure.
I built another G_A from scratch, using un-pruned ATI .inf files.
I used the driver files from:
Nvidia 177.98 beta (WHQL), with pruned .infs (zero HWID overlap).
8-8_xp32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_67975.exe (desktop Catalyst)
8-8-igp_xp32_dd_ccc_wdm_sb_gart_enu_67975.exe (IGP Catalyst)
8-8-mobile_xp32_dd_ccc_enu_67239.exe (mobile Catalyst)
agp-hotfix_xp32_67246.exe (AGP hotfix requested by Helmi)

These along with the newer WDM/driver files included in the AIW-HD package supplied by Helmi

Here's the tests:
1) Nvidia 8800GTS--> success! smile
2) ATI Radeon x600--> success! smile
3) ATI Radeon HD3450--> FAILURE BSOD at T-34
4) ATI Radeon Mobility 9600--> success! smile

I think what's causing my BSOD is the AGP hotfix.  I'm going to build another G_A dp without the hotfix and see if that solves my problem (sorry Helmi).

Re: Graphics A 8.09rc4 for testing purposes (REPORTS wanted)

I would include physx since the recent versions are distributed with drivers and for that reason I can consider tham as part of drivers.  If someone has to download and extract drivers to install physx it defeats the purpose of using driverpacks.

to clarify

177.83 whql
177.98 whql

both integrate physx installers.

only earlier versions of physx were seperate.

That's why you always have the option to include any drivers you are missing via a 3rd party DriverPack all by yourself! smile

Just in case you weren't aware...

Re: Graphics A 8.09rc4 for testing purposes (REPORTS wanted)

Hello to all.

In dp absent next files from SourceDisksFiles section of nv4_disp2.inf:

nvdispsr.dll
nvgamesr.dll
nvmccssr.dll
nvmoblsr.dll
nvvitvsr.dll
nvwssr.dll

Re: Graphics A 8.09rc4 for testing purposes (REPORTS wanted)

statement: helmi tested a pack
I cannot anwer your question.

Statement; You are looking at a mix of tests.
1, we are testing new bartPE ini implemetation in our coding.
2; we are testing stand alone disc
3; we are testing WHQL in disc install. (what is, in effect, the small shops in the world. They have the all-in world experience.)

4; WHQL in RIS and WIM in XP and vista, and DIS in server 2008 do not make us think WHQL is a great quality lab..

MY complaint is not that microsoft  qualified drivers are bad, it is that the database they have is not good.

(insofar that one NAS will kill another. GO look for NAS and RIS in adaptec for NAS/SCSI and meet intel? (°°) and so on )

I don't think you have been reading carefully...

mr_s said if it were included with the driver  he would include it... what part of that is not clear to you ? ? ?

I however still think it may be nice to have it in a 3rd party DriverPack...
and this would still be no problem for you just add the 3rd party DriverPack to your build and you wouldn't even know it wasn't in the main pack wink
(think about it...)

tested GA 809C and 809rc1, dpbase 80915b, Ati 3870

drivers installed but ATI Control Center didn't; on 809A all was fine (dpbase 805 at that moment)

@mr_smartepants: thanks for the good job U do, but can U please tell us what's new in the new graphics packs?

Re: Graphics A 8.09rc4 for testing purposes (REPORTS wanted)

testpacks most oft include a changelog for team, so un7zip, and read the changelog.txt

hehe, whether it has a changelog or not, compare all files to earlier, you will always learn.

G_A is at 8.09rc2.  Final stretch!
Catalyst 8.9 is rock solid.  Looks like Nvidia 177.98 will be in the final (unless they pull a rabbit out of their hat).
I have some pruning to do in N1\ to remove legacy hardware which BSOD on the new drivers.
