Topic: Graphics A 8.09rc4 for testing purposes (REPORTS wanted)

This topic started with a testpack posted in may, so we started with a version 805a.
And then things went on..

In mid June I went on holidays and Mr Smartepants came back from his trip. Mr Smartepants has since then took over developement of the DriverPack Graphics A and other graphics DP's and has updated this post about the latest dpg test packs.
When you read this topic you can see that getting it done right is not enough.
The drivers themselves are also under scrutiny. We can all learn from what you experience so we want reports, good, or bad.
Your insights and proposed fixes will help the real master.
(That's YOU, Erik.)

This DP 805B will be short-lived.  175.16 was released a few days ago (finally unified driver).  Catalyst 8.5 should be released this week.

I don't mind the short life-span, but must at least find out if this DriverPack Graphics A 805B works.

Re: Graphics A 8.09rc4 for testing purposes (REPORTS wanted)

hmm,
no testers reply?
does it work that well?

No news is good news?

Anyway, it should work for Nvidia.. it worked here.
ATI CCC may not work (when I tested in an english source I may have fubar'ed the dot.NET framework addon..).
When I used CCP ATI install worked here.. and without CCC/CCP it also installed.

a sidenote:
ATI tests were done on a Gigabyte card HD 2600 pro.. which is a bear to install from the original supplied CD..
(the new download Gigabyte put up worked a lot better)

Re: Graphics A 8.09rc4 for testing purposes (REPORTS wanted)

Well, CCP and NONE installed the driver for ATI and when I redid that testplank to a plain txtmode only with the Gigabyte dowload, I could only CCC.. or not (which is normal because CCP is a DriverPacks choice no longer available in catalyst). and the CCC then worked.

When I fired up a clean format again (DriverPack MassStorage txtmode only) , and chose to NOT use CCC, the CDrom drivers left a mess, and next format was then done with the dowloaded exe (latest version) and that went well. (it is a form of ati catalyst 8x but specifically dubbed for gigabyte)

I had already figured I fubar'd the dotnet integrate.
(CCC works when I have a good dotnet addon)
So, ATI may work for others.. but I want to get verification. One card is not valid reson to say the testfile worked for the majority.
Absense of error report is no proof.
We do want "bigbrit style".
When it works, Bigbrit says so, and that way we also see what it worked on.

I figure that testers want to learn why positives also need to show the HWID log.
When a main team member sees a BSOD reported, he will focus on that.
Do you want to be the cause of thousands of man hours wasted by not reporting?
Good or bad.
IT Is important
(IT guys know this?)

remember the chipset topic that spun on about negatives for ages .. and then I offered a testpack and asked for positives.

DriverPack Graphics A  and B and C are quite complicated.
DriverPack Chipset and DriverPack MassStorage are essentials and have to evolve along with the major players.

The major reason we have not solved this is (in my eyes) the lack of complete database.
I hope we get helpers whom will code scanners or recode scanners.

Ask what we have, it ain't too bad.

Re: Graphics A 8.09rc4 for testing purposes (REPORTS wanted)

Usually people only take the time if they have an issue...

when i released bartpe plugin for mass storage a year ago we got one post...

one in a year. (we have had a few pack issues)

but they said 1000 people a day were downloading it and only one post good bad or otherwise...

and that is why bigbrit is a driverpacks hero to me...
he is the only one who drops by to say "it worked Flawlessly" Thanks guys.
he even includes the hwids, in code tags no less...

that so makes my day... every time...

Re: Graphics A 8.09rc4 for testing purposes (REPORTS wanted)

People need to realise why positive feedback helps solve issues.
DriverPack LAN had a flurry of posts with failures.
8021/805.1/805a/805b/805c/805d/805e(which is now805.2)

we have a DriverPack LAN 805.2 and it started when a REQ was posted about a missing HWID.
All hands on deck, so to speak.
(we have too few hands.. let me tell you.)
Bâshrat the Sneaky once figured a workaround (let's say in 2006. He combined a few driver sets)
And after that, Nvidia was not easy to make a single change to.

I think Nvidia gave up in 2006 because the last business platform unified driver-set nvidia released was (2007) with 2006 drivers.
One has to think about the efforts Joshua and Bâshrat the Sneaky put in when they worked on DriverPack LAN.
Since then, Nvidia have released quite a few new chips but no new bussiness platform set.

In the LAN forum, I repeated an older list with desciptions of downloads. (it was not even complete)
I have updated my collection of drivers and descriptions privately and a "scratch hairs, have coffee" lan file will be available soon.
The analitic will know when they see the "mess".
When you work on Nvidia you need gumbah to find back good humor, or anal IT and coffee.
(gumbah is a flemish cartoonist. )

>> edit, I forgot to mention SamLab as a hero.
His logs are badly compiled (probably because OS is russian and HWID read tool is not ), but he reports.
He told us DriverPack LAN 8.05.2 is not perfect and showed where it fails. (in humour, he sais another case.. a case for holmes. because I used that.)

We need watsons. Holmes could not do without watson.

the annual GTL table?
I want the one in the shade, with Mss Yuen and D Yuen at the far right.

Erik,
it is amazing to see what was dropped by the non-unified..
Eyeballs are eyeballs. We need better scanners.

I had huge respect for Erik, and more now.
He doesn't want his temporary absense stop us dead. He wants us to go on.
But folks, YOU don't want ME as Erik's replacement. We wanted a broad based team. People whom worked together and perhaps shared same passion.
People with the materials to test live and the willingness to provide detail.

Re: Graphics A 8.09rc4 for testing purposes (REPORTS wanted)

The build is now 805E with laptop support.

It contains catalyst 8.5 and the unified NV 175.16
It should work, but we want reports (good as well as bad) before we can release.

Re: Graphics A 8.09rc4 for testing purposes (REPORTS wanted)

Very interesting to communicate with you, but it is very difficult because of poor English skills, and Google translator from English to Russian translates so that 30% understand, probably as you understand me very badly ...

Worked on Windows 8.1 Pro

Re: Graphics A 8.09rc4 for testing purposes (REPORTS wanted)

we badly understand you OK!  =P

Most of our posters do not speak english as their primary language.
no need to apologize. We are getting the messages loud and clear. (well clear anyway wink )

Have a great day and thanks for your feedback -
testing AND reporting is what makes DriverPacks better and you do both big_smile

Re: Graphics A 8.09rc4 for testing purposes (REPORTS wanted)

I don't get this at all
I use a dutch XP-sp3 plus dotnet addon.
Live tests are always with automatic repartition and format, the radeon HD2600pro driver installs, but ATICCC won't get installed automatically..
I then install 7zip (I included the 7zip installer on the DVD), extract DPGA805E and run aticcc.exe by hand.. and the control panel installs.
(which means dotnet is working)

Re: Graphics A 8.09rc4 for testing purposes (REPORTS wanted)

I`m repack and delete ATICCC - drivers only and size small smile

New 8.05 RC: original file nv4_go.inf from laptopvideo2go very cutted and linked to deleted file (CatalogFile = NV4_go.CAT)

Worked on Windows 8.1 Pro

Re: Graphics A 8.09rc4 for testing purposes (REPORTS wanted)

Hi.
I know it was "cutted",
I had pruned all duplicate HWIDs from that nv4_go file..

What I was saying is that the ATICCC.exe file works properly when I manually executed (after extracting it).
But, it seems it was not exectuted when it had to.

And, for the fun of it, I used DriverPacks BASE 7.05.2 to build a DVD with this pack, and it behaved exactly same.
Maybe it is because of SP3? Maybe it is because the Gigabyte mobo acts funny?
(the JMB36x controller gets detected twice.. so there is yet another thing I have to look at..)

I just spent four or five hours on LAN.. I made many notes on this Nvidia riddle..
I think I have found out why there are ((some)) old drivers ((sometimes)) winning over newer ones.

Positive feedback... woo hoo...
Jaak it worked... they posted.... thud...
tee hee...

We might have to get you a reserved spot at the DP_GT Lunch Table smile wink tongue big_smile
thanks Jaak for tackling the Graphics Packs while mr_smartepants is on the road... so to speak.

some of the packs are quite a bit tougher than the others.
mr_s is the man when it comes to graphics. and graphics is one of the toughest
mr_s' title the "graphics master", was not suggested lightly...

Graphics (A, B, C) and MassStorage are the two toughest DriverPacks and Jaak has been doing both...
he also has 3k posts at DriverPacks as of this month. I believe he assisted on few other packs this month too (quietly).

Jaak of all packs - that one just hit me wink - is a true statement,

The translations team, testing team and pack team members have been working hard as well
I have a dozen language packs that were updated as a result of 8.05
(i hope i am not the only one who sees the irony in my next statment.)
I dont think I have ever seen a post from anyone on the translations team here on the forum? wink
- they are not a very chatty bunch tongue lol ... -

It is my honor to help Bâshrat the Sneaky and the dedicated team of volunteers who make this project successful.
if you report how DriverPacks is performing for you then you are part of that team too...
(PS this team has no maximum number of players...) wink

Re: Graphics A 8.09rc4 for testing purposes (REPORTS wanted)

I wasn't fully awake yet.. geforce GT8600.. Nvidia has worked here and NV CPL installers are not launched by an exception.

hehe, LAN was not so quiet.. smile
I want to release the new work on LAN this month.

The problem I have with the ATI CPL is most probably caused by the combination of 'crapola' hardware I plonked together as testrigs.
For instance, the supplied mobo DVD and ATI CDROM have issues.. I have to download "fixed OEM" drivers to make it work, so I figure it is not a thing many will see. (OH, the driver in DriverPack Graphics A works..and DriverPack Graphics A also properly installs the ATI HDMI driver. It's only that the ATI CPL is not automatically installing for me. )

BUT, that CPL issue I see is why I do not want to take the risk of releasing an untested DriverPack Graphics A and then get a zillion angry posts as result.
