Topic: Server2008-Where to find drivers for this device?

Hi,
I have an unknown device in Device Manager. Do you have any idea what device this is and where I can find drivers for it?

Here's what Device Manager says:

ACPI\AuthenticAMD_-_AMD64_Family_15_Model_107_-_AMD_Processor_model_unknown\_0
ACPI\AuthenticAMD_-_AMD64_Family_15_Model_107_-_AMD_Processor_model_unknown\_1
ACPI\PNP0C0C\2&daba3ff&2
ACPI\PNP0A08\1
ACPI\FixedButton\2&daba3ff&2

Thanks in advance!

Andreas

your processor and a shortcut button (like an IE shortcut button on a laptop or keyboard)

from our rules and Posting Guidlines that you agreed that you read when you signed up.

If you create a post that says "I am looking for a driver for..."
(Especially if you have not used the DriverPacks at all.)

Then it's obvious that you failed to read this post and your welcome here may not be as warm and fuzzy as you might like.

If you ask a question that is covered in that manual then you will receive a demerit.

as it tells you in the linked post most HWIDs are Googleable (STFW)

We don't find drivers for people, AND this is the DriverPacks support forum... If you have not used DriverPacks then you have no need to post here wink tongue.

Thank you in advance for understanding and for taking the time to read the FAQs, documentation and rules.

Re: Server2008-Where to find drivers for this device?

Ok, I agree I should have read these linked pages instead of just accepting the text written...
I googled the identifiers before but Google results show up various results, yet not a single one seems to be related to a driver. I tried your driverpacks Misc, yet it did not include anything Windows found useful. Btw: The computer does only have a power on button. Do these things need drivers? *confused*

Thanks for your help

Edit:
Hm. I just ran the tool mentioned. I do not know how to proceed from here. There aren't any vendor information down there as far as I can see. :-/

Re: Server2008-Where to find drivers for this device?

How the Heck are we supposed to help you find drivers? For all we know you are running Linux... In which case you are REALLY lost wink tongue
How about tossing us a bit of useful info here
Windows 2000?
Windows XP?
Windows 2003?
Windows Vista?
Windows 7?

What service pack?

which version
Home?
MCE?
Pro?
Enterprize?
Ultimate?

which distribution
OEM?
Retail?
Corporate?
MSDN?

I already tried to give you a push in the correct direction here...

ACPI\AuthenticAMD_-_AMD64_Family_15_Model_107_-_AMD_Processor_model_unknown\_1
Is your AMD processor
AMD processors are covered by the DriverPacks CPU pack (not the Misc pack)
Did you try to use the SAD (Stand Alone Drivers) feature of DriverPacks BASE? (is SAD how you tried the Misc pack?)
You should try the CPU pack with SAD if you haven't yet. Again this is not a big deal, the proccesor will not run any better... pretty much all the cpu driver does is to make the yellow exclamation point go away in device manager... wink.  A rose by any other name tongue.

Further as stated in the linked post http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=4422

go to http://www.downloadwindowsdrivers.info and follow to your HWID  ACPI\AuthenticAMD_
several drivers can be found... http://www.downloadwindowsdrivers.info/ … enticamd_/
Although CPU drivers are not needed and won't really make your computer run any better or worse.

Same for finding the other ones...
although if i were you i would go to the OEM providers site for them... Dell, HP, Acer, whomever built the PC or notebook. (you failed to mention what it was).

by googling ACPI\PNP0C0C\2&daba3ff&2 It looks like this is a CPU fan or Battery for a laptop...
Is this a laptop? what kind? did you try their site for drivers?

You need to help us to help you. Details are the key.

Providing the HWIDs was a good start! (had you not included that info in your first post you would have gotten no response at all)
It would be kind of like asking us "why won't my transportation go?"

Unfortunately due to NDAs it's not very easy to answer your questions wink

I'm using Windows Codename Phoenix, based on Windows Server 2008 R2 Core 64Bit. It's a MS internal build.

The system is a Belinea o.center and has been manufactured by MAXDATA. Both companies went bankrupt. :-/
The motherbord has been manufactured by INVENTEC; they don't provide any software drivers to download. The BIOS is locked and cannot be accessed.

The server itself features one power button, one recovery button (its only function is to boot into another system stored on USB keys). It has an inbuilt eSata, 4x USB, 1 ethernet port. There are 4 SATA drive slots for harddisks. These slots should feature hotswapping, in Win Server 2003 they did, currently with 2008R2 they don't.

And then there are 6 blinking lights, 5 of them are controlled via software that is not available for Windows Server 2008R2. The processor has been replaced. Now it's an Athlon X2 4850e, before it was some kind of AMD LE dunno.. The OS has been installed after the replacement.

I tried your CPU pack now. Windows says the most recent drivers are already installed and work fine.

Did you try to use the SAD (Stand Alone Drivers) feature of DriverPacks BASE? (is SAD how you tried the Misc pack?)

Nope. I downloaded the packs, put them into a directory, went to Windows Device Manager, right clicked onto the broken devices and selected Update drivers. Then I choosed the directory and selected to include subfolders. However I have your DriverPacks BASE installed.

You should try the CPU pack with SAD if you haven't yet. Again this is not a big deal, the proccesor will not run any better... pretty much all the cpu driver does is to make the yellow exclamation point go away in device manager... wink.  A rose by any other name tongue.

Actually I try to get rid of that marathon of Windows bug checks I get every now and then. (Especially a Processor hadware exception; posted to AMD forums, no answers yet)

Guess I need something more recent than XP 32 bit drivers. :-/

It's a server. It has that usual CMOS battery and a CPU fan. Could this be related to Cool n' quiet systems?

Is this a laptop? what kind? did you try their site for drivers?

no drivers online.. :-(

If I need to provide more information please do not hesitate to ask. I'll try my very best to answer.

Re: Server2008-Where to find drivers for this device?

AFAIK, the build code for the server2008r2 core of Home Server is "Vail", not "Phoenix".
The AMD processor driver is built into NT6 systems (Vista/Win7/Server2k8) so you should be covered out of the box.  If not, a quick trip to Windows Update should solve this whole issue.
So let me get this straight, you're running a phantom "alpha" version of an OS on an old server whose company went out of business?
If you can't get support from M$ who gave you this alpha-OS (you're authorized to run it right?) or the company who made the hardware, then I guess you're out of luck because our magic wand doesn't stretch that far. wink

Vail is the software on top of it. The core has different codenames.

Indeed it is there and has been automatically installed during setup, however it displays the message posted in the first post as well as that broken device that was identified as a button or fan or ....

So let me get this straight, you're running a phantom "alpha" version of an OS on an old server whose company went out of business?

yup

If you can't get support from M$ who gave you this alpha-OS (you're authorized to run it right?)

Yup, i'm a beta tester and a Microsoft Student Partner. It's like 'this is the build, try to see whether you can get it to run on your server'. Anything non-MS driver related is not supported by MS. It's about their beta OS, not the drivers (and related blue screen) from a third party. So I am pretty much on a road to find drivers/patches for hardware that is pretty much impossible to identify because the companies behind do longer exist. Currently I got 29/31 hardware related problems solved.

or the company who made the hardware, then I guess you're out of luck because our magic wand doesn't stretch that far. wink

It was worth a try wink At least the driver packs got my mass controller to work. It doesn't do hot swapping yet but at least the drives get identified and Device Manager is a happy with it.

Re: Server2008-Where to find drivers for this device?

I thought "server2008r2" was a Windows 7 family member?

This scenario is rife with potential for problems: outdated/modified hardware, unreleased OS software, non-manufacturer driver support, etc.

I'd like to ask - Can you install XP or Server 2003 on this thing to be certain all the hardware is OK?

Try to remove as many of these unknowns/variables as possible and see if you can see daylight in any form or fashion.

In my younger days, I tried to do everything at once, and paid dearly with my time and patience. I understand now that new territory should be explored one small step at a time.

Unless the schedule, boss or budget dictate otherwise. <grin>

If it was ME, I'd create a simpler OS setup disk with something like Server 2003 integrated with the latest (beta) DriverPacks, and see if I could make that go.

Unless you can rule out hardware failure and/or BIOS misconfiguration, it seems like a long road you're gonna be on.

Simplify, Grasshopper.

Remember a master does more work with his eye than with his hand.

Best wishes and regards from Atlanta, GA.

Re: Server2008-Where to find drivers for this device?

"Vail" is Windows Home Server R2 and is not Alpha code, it's already shipped.

http://connect.microsoft.com/WindowsHomeServer

You are going to have major problems with finding driver for an older PC/Server to work with Home Server. It was originally only shipped with HP PC's only so the driver set is very specific.
I have installed this for two small companies who needed something more powerful than XP Pro and less than Server 2003/2008, it was a pig to setup with the correct drivers.
Unless you can find out what the exact hardware items are within the box you will have problems.

I doubt if there is anything special within the box. Try to find a model # on the motherboard. Look at the chips on the MB with a magnifying glass to find the make and model of the NIC, Sound Card etc.

The BIOS can usually be cleared by shorting a jumper pair on the motherboard. You can then set it as you want it.

Wish you luck on this one.
