Topic: [SOLVED]Dell D430 freezing @first reboot with Mobile Intel 945

Dell D430 is freezing at end of first reboot, at the PnP monitor detection that comes just after the graphics card.
It has been this way since the summer. This is using latest dev/test packs as of about 5 days ago.

12.55 is time pc is manually restarted, it then contines ok and finishes as normal (appart form the Sigmatel HD audio not working)

try the new 3rd party DriverPack for monitors and see where you land. Since it seems as though the monitor driver is the issue doesn't it?
and it looks like it is trying to use a 7 year old driver on your brand new monitor.

im guessing here but this is a wide screen flat panel and you are attempting to install a standard graphics monitor driver which certainly does not support the correct screen resolutions for a wide screen monitor. can you say boom!

Hi, I was using the latest monitor pack. I can't believe it is hanging as a result of MS's generic monitor install?, its just too non critical, I have never had any issues on other widescreen laptop monitors.

I cant really be more precise as to the issue, it hangs and the log shows the above. I am 99.9% sure its an issue with the Intel drivers.

Anyone else using a D430 ?

Also have exact same issue with Dell ATG D620 and Mobile 945 chipset

cdob, thanks for that, the two microsoft links sound very likely, I have just got the hotfixes form them - I will try on Monday to see if they fix it. The links you get indicate they are both part of XP SP3. If these are of use, these are the links for them both

I did a little digging regarding kb883667

Description;     Windows XP Setup program may stop responding during video driver installation
When an OEM performs a factory installation of an OEM version of Microsoft Windows XP, or when you use a Sysprep image to install Windows XP, the Setup program may stop responding during the video driver installation process.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because of a problem with the Video.inf file. If a driver is signed, but the driver does not include an .inf file that describes child devices, such as monitors, the installation may stop responding.

Makes sense... now, my discovery
The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table.

if the updated Newdev.dll from sp3 fixes it i won't bother adding the hotfix.

ps the hotfix consists of;
replaceing the i386/newdev.dl_ with the hotfix version
and if we were living right createing the registry entrys @
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\HotFix\KB883667

This may also help with laptop installs...

another discovery apparently support for kb883667 is already written into base however for some strange reason it was added around base ver 6.06 and dropped around version 6.08 i don't know why...

so i will re-enable support for kb883667 in RC3 - please let me know if it is also needed for xpsp3

Maybe it was when a member and Erik implemented widescreen support in Graphics.. which was then no longer an issue?
And, currently it again has become one.
BUT.. I dunno why.

The only method I used to implement widescreen support was in the ATI driver, specifically the mobility.inf file which covers all cards not officially supported by ATI Catalyst. 
It had nothing to do with DPBase.

I can add widescreen support (member must provide EXACT HWID and resolution) to prevent incorrect/unsupported resolutions leaking into other cards.
That's all, it's not rocket-science smile

the hot fix  support is re-enabled in rc3 it supports: xp sp1 and sp2 only
