Ummm, Bâshrat the Sneaky...did you modify your websites' PHP script for the updatechecker? hmm

I'm seeing this too with the release packs.  Oddly enough, I'm no longer getting the popup complaining about the nightly DPBase.
I'm beginning to suspect you're in the middle of finalizing all the 705 packs and somehow took the updatechecker PHP script offline.

Bâshrat the Sneaky wrote:

This is the URL the UpdateChecker requests: http://driverpacks.net/UpdateChecker.php.

Actually, the link now is:
http://driverpacks.net/DriverPacks/UpdateTracker.php
Was that an intentional change? yikes
Your link gives a 404 error.

BTW, this patch is included in RyanVM's latest update pack (2.1.10).
We hammered it in testing and it's solid. smile

Looks like others are still having issues though.

You're right, there are missing SYS files.
From INF in D\L\3\3

[SourceDisksFiles]
EL2K_9X.sys				= 50
EL2K_2K.sys				= 50
EL2K_XP.sys				= 50
EL2K_CPP.dll				= 50

Only EL2K_XP.sys, cat and dll are in folder.

I don't have an answer for you, maybe one of the main team can chime in.

Just curious.
Personally, I'd consider 5 years a well-paid-off lifetime for such a media, moreso seeing as they don't cost that much more than a WORM edition wink

I'm not sure of the cycles.  I didn't use them all that often until about two years ago (blame nlite, ryanvm and Bâshrat the Sneaky)  smile
I'm guessing I averaged one burn a week for about two years...maybe 100-150 cycles?  You're right, it served with honor and died peacefully.

Modern media that is veryfied for 16x writing ususally works best at exactly that speed.
Burning them slower (either because the device can't do it faster or out of purpose) can actually get you worse results than burning on the certified speed.
Strange, but nonetheless true...

OK, I'm going to have to disagree with you there...
I proved this to myself about a year ago with my new 16x Plextor ($$$) burner.  I bought about 4 different brands of 16x media and tried burning the same DVD at different speeds to try to pick out the most compatible media for my burner.  I burnt at 16x, 12x, 8x, 4x for all brands and I found that on my DVD player, the 16x burned media would only play the first 5 min of the movie then stall.  The 12x burned movie was better but stalled out halfway through.  The 8x burned movies played all the way through but didn't last that long (10 playbacks max) and the 4x burned movies are still going strong.
YMMV.

Muiz,
I have access to the affected notebook for the next day or so.
The problem Ralink WLAN device has a HWID of:
PCI\VEN_1814&DEV_0200&SUBSYS_68321462&REV_01\3&267A616A&0&70: Network Controller

This is really odd because the official Averatec website link (first post) doesn't even have this HWID listed in any of the INF files.
What's really frustrating is that I can no longer get the drivers to load in either XP (32-bit) or Vista (32-bit) where I did it before (64-bit.) sad

Any ideas?  I'm all ears.

I own a Latitude C600 (very similar) but I do not have access to it at the moment.  It's on loan to a friend until they rebuild their main system (bad mobo).  I should get it back in a couple of weeks though if you can wait that long. hmm

1. If the folder is empty, get rid of it.
2. This is to work with the Windows installer itself.  The installer looks for the $OEM$ folder (and subfolders).  The windows installer doesn't support driverpacks...we just work around it. smile

True.
Last week I lost my first CDRW to dye breakdown.  Granted, the disc was about 5 years old.
I have a half-dozen DVD-R/W discs that I use for testing.  I don't keep anything important on them.  For archival purposes, I use DVD-R (I hear that +R is better for longevity).

I know for a fact that you get better burn quality at lower burn speeds.  If you're not in a hurry, always burn at the slowest possible speeds.

Sorry, I can't help you out either.  The ATI installer is a big hairball to me.  To be honest, I'd leave the ATI packs to the pros.  I spent over two weeks wrestling with the catalyst installer and couldn't make it work.  These guys have my utmost respect just on this ATI issue alone.

I just finished my ATI DVD codec installer (HW accelerated).  It's not much, but I can give you that. smile

I just took a look at the dlink website...wow, they haven't updated their drivers since 2005.  No wonder you're looking elsewhere.
Since you've already verified that your hardware works with this driverpack, can you post your HWIDs so we can add them to the pack INF?

@magon,
Do you have the hardware to test any changes we make to the driverpack?  I don't have access to that type of hardware.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no.
When you boot into safe-mode, no drivers are loaded right?  All I'm saying is it's worth a shot.  What's the worst that can happen?  BSOD...OK, back to square one.

It may be possible to produce your own driver.cab file to replace the driver.cab in c:\windows\driver cache\i386\

It's just my theory, but if you clone your image to a different PC with different hardware, windows should automatically scan the driver.cab file for drivers for your 'new' hardware.
I haven't tried it, and it's just a theory of mine.
To make the CAB file, use CabTool (google).  Make sure you clear out the c:\windows\prefetch\ directory as well prior to imaging.

Hmmm, I might just try that trick myself.

Muiz check your email.

Any other drivers from there you want me to grab and unpack?

How were you able to compress it using 7zip as a .CAB file?  I can't see any option for that.  I always use CabTool for CAB compression and 7zip for 7z compression.
I believe that the windows installer can only handle CAB files directly, any other compression type needs a 'helper' app loaded to handle other files.

3,894

(8 replies, posted in Software)

Perhaps you are refering to the 3rd party driverpack tutorial here
Basically, you use 7zip to decompress the official driverpack, delete the folders you do not need, edit the INI file to remove references to the deleted folders, then repackage the 'slimmed' driverpack.

Quickly looking at your HWIDs, you'll need the following driverpacks
chipset
graphics_a
LAN
sound_a
TV (3rd party)
Canon (3rd party)
Webcam (3rd party)

Like I said, I have NOT verified your HWIDs with the included DP INF files but you should be OK.

Good luck, and visit us often.

Files were updated yet again.

RT61:1.2.1.0
RT2500:3.2.0.0
Release date 16 Apr 2007.

I'm working on it muiz.  I'll try to get access to the laptop this week.

It would also be most helpful since your HWID strings would be included in the finisher log.

**EDIT

That chipset is NOT supported by the standard catalyst 7.4 graphics suite from ATI.  I'll look into it when I get back from work.
If you could please post your finisher log or at least your HWIDs so we can get started.

I just had a second look.  The official ATI package that supports this chipset is NOT the Catalyst driver package used in the Graphics_A driverpack.
The official ATI catalyst suite for the xPress 200M is the Motherboard/IGP suite here.

I'm at work so I can't verify at the moment, but I don't think your chipset is even supported in the Chipset driverpack as the ATI IGP drivers in the chipset pack are only at v.6.0.8 while the official ATI IGP drivers are at 7.4.

Maybe if there is enough demand for this setup, Bâshrat the Sneaky & the main team can put together an IGP driverpack.  But that would depend on the number of official requests.

When you extract and run the "save_hwids.cmd" file from my signature, you'll get a TXT file.  You need to post the contents of the TXT file here.  It contains the HardWare IDs of all your installed hardware.

Hi Malcolm,
For your Radeon 9600 card, you need the Graphics_A driverpack.
The TV card and your Canon printer all should have drivers in the 3rd party driverpack thread

To better help you, we need to know your HWID strings (use the link in my signature).
We may also need you to post the text in your DP Base log files (use the \code\ tags.)

3,899

(17 replies, posted in DriverPack Mass Storage)

When you integrated the Mass Storage driverpack using the DP Base, did you enable the checkbox for "DriverPack MassStorage text mode"?
That option needs to be checked if you normally use the F6/Floppy method for the Windows installer to recognize your hard drives.

That would be my first guess.
