Topic: Sony VAIO VGN-FE880E audio drivers for WinXP Pro

I bought a new Sony VAIO model VGN-FE880E, and had a working laptop for only 2 days...heres the story:

1. Needed to use programs that did not work for Vista
2. Erased Vista partition, Installed XP Pro, programs worked, drivers did not

Sony only has drivers for Vista and not Win XP Pro.

Found some of the drivers on Sony's website in Europe others on the Intel website.

What I stil need is:


SigmaTel ® HD Audio Device Driver
Camera Drivers
Memory Stick driver


This is the MOBO info:

Chipset

Detected Chipset:
Mobile Intel(R) 945GM/GMS/940GML Express Chipsets or Intel(R) 945GT Express Chipset

Chipset Components

Memory Controller:
82945GM/GMS/82940GML or 82945GT

I/O Controller:
Intel(R) 82801GBM I/O controller hub (ICH7M)

This is becoming a common problem with HD audio...just search for "sigmatel" and you see what I mean. hmm

When I try do run the save_hwids soft i get a error msg that says "is not a valid win32 application.

no problem with that here..
My way is to download to a new folder, and then I open that folder.
Save_hwids.exe then has to be extracted (it is Self-extracting file).
that's one doubleclick.
Then you find save_hwids.cmd, and that will run by a doubleclick as well.
Its output is then found as hwids.txt, wich you can use to post info here.

The answer was 42?

I would appreciate it if you could send me the drivers or the exact link for the download. I don't know if I can post my email here???

I have already downloaded the FE3_Drivers.zip from the sony website in Servia but they didn't work.

It installs but I get a error msg saying that it can't connect or start.

Anybody have any other ideas? This is driving me crazy.

Good News,

I finally got the the sound to work with the drivers I had downloaded from the Sony/Serbian website.

Now I still trying to get the Camera (a VGP-VCC1) and the memory stick to work.

Any Ideas????

Hey Guys...

I tried those links and still can't get the camera to work...

The Camera is a VGP-VCC1 on a VCG-FE880E Ibeleive that all other functions are now working under Win XP Pro.


Any Ideas... sugestions????

Why this assholes don't make a version for XP

WE HATE VISTA, Don't you see?

Pffff anyway i'm gonna try with the Fe2x/Fe3x series.

Hello.  I have the exact same problem with the VGNFE88OE series.  I downgraded to XP and I cannot get sound.  None of the drivers from the Sony site work.  The only one I need is the SigmaTel sound Driver.  I can't read anything on the www.sony.de website.  Can someone directly link me to the driver that worked for the poster of this thread?  Thanks.

Do I need to extract these to a certain folder?  I used both of them and I still can't get sound.

It added the SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC to my Device Manager but has an error and I still have no sound.  Here is a screen shot

go up in that ftp, and find that modem and the rest of the stuff you need..
You'll need the modem driver to make sound work. (true)

Most of the important drivers were not installed, and this site is actually about making installation media with most drivers in it.. I doubt you used such a slipstreamed DVD.
