Topic: DP BASE and WINNT.SIF

Hello!
In my UA things are mostly going well with help from the tutorials and posts. It's just that I have not been able to get rid of yellow coded "Other Devices" in Device Manager. They are Multimedia Controller and Multimedia Video Controller (they are both for my WinFast TV-tuner card by LeadTek) and CanonIP2200 (my printer).
I have the CDs for these devices but I am trying to do it all as part of the UA, not by running the CDs afterwards.
I have been using dpBASE 704 and followed Rick's tutorial for 3rd party packs using Driver Genius Pro. I also used the chipset, Sound A and Graphics B pack. I have also tried it without the Graphics pack with no difference. I have an ATI RADEON 9600 card installed.
In dpBASE I chose Method 2.
The specifics of my question relates to whether this method needs a WINNT.SIF file in the i386 folder - do I even need one at all? If so, what do I put in these lines

    * "OemPreInstall
    * "OemPnPDriversPath"
    * "DriverSigningPolicy"?

A second aspect of my method that may be relevant - I couldn't see any WinFast drivers in the backup made by Driver Genius Pro so I boldly (!!) had a go at it myself. I put the CAT, SYS and INF files in a folder with a two character name as in Rick's tutorial. As well as these files the WinFast driver had two folders - TestTool and Uninstall. I just left these out altogether.

I guess I should mention that the printer is plugged in and turned on.
Thanks in advance.
Malcolm

Re: DP BASE and WINNT.SIF

the winnt.sif must exist or you will fail

this file is modified by base and will need no attention from you.

make sure your DPs_base slipstream is the last step in your process!

Re: DP BASE and WINNT.SIF

Thanks, Overflow!
I have been using a WINNT.SIF, just wasn't sure if it was needed as I first heard of it using the MSFN guide.
So, that then is not the reason why there are yellow "Other devices" in Device Manager.
My UA is XPSP2integrated with the hotfixes and dotNETS by RyanVM Integrator then 3rd party driverpacks and driverpacks with DPBASE as above.
Any clues, please?

Re: DP BASE and WINNT.SIF

Hi Malcolm,
For your Radeon 9600 card, you need the Graphics_A driverpack.
The TV card and your Canon printer all should have drivers in the 3rd party driverpack thread

To better help you, we need to know your HWID strings (use the link in my signature).
We may also need you to post the text in your DP Base log files (use the \code\ tags.)

Thanks,Mr S.!

I have DLed the TV-tuner and printer packs but can't go any further tonight as I am not at my home computer.

Does HWID mean hardware identification? Strings? What are they & where/how do I get them?
Apologies for these Newbie questions!!!

With thanks,
Malcolm

When you extract and run the "save_hwids.cmd" file from my signature, you'll get a TXT file.  You need to post the contents of the TXT file here.  It contains the HardWare IDs of all your installed hardware.

Re: DP BASE and WINNT.SIF

That's a very clever signature of yours, mr_s! I'm learning a lot here! the HWIDs are below.
BTW, I have been successful since I last wrote. I now have a UA that does all that I've been trying for over the last two weeks - hotfixes, dotNETS, Sound A addon and driverpacks for my printer & TV card.
I am very grateful to yourself and the other posters, including on the RyanVM forum as well.

Perhaps one more request - I'll so some searching but I can't recall (my age is showing!!) whether it was here or in Ryan's forum that I read about how to modify a driverpack. For example, say I just want  my own printer files rather than the whole Canon Inkjet pack. Would you post a link to this as I'm bound not to find it with my searching?
Kind regards
Malcolm

Re: DP BASE and WINNT.SIF

Perhaps you are refering to the 3rd party driverpack tutorial here
Basically, you use 7zip to decompress the official driverpack, delete the folders you do not need, edit the INI file to remove references to the deleted folders, then repackage the 'slimmed' driverpack.

Quickly looking at your HWIDs, you'll need the following driverpacks
chipset
graphics_a
LAN
sound_a
TV (3rd party)
Canon (3rd party)
Webcam (3rd party)

Like I said, I have NOT verified your HWIDs with the included DP INF files but you should be OK.

Good luck, and visit us often.

Re: DP BASE and WINNT.SIF

Thanks, mr_s!
No, the post was at http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=1262. I only found it (in the FAQs) a short while ago  after lots of searching!
Many thanks for spelling it out above. I've advanced somewhat, now knowing how to get addons for applications (eg: antivirus programs) into my UA.
I think I've read somewhere that there's no limit to the number of addons that the latest RyanVM-I can handle? And also as Overflow said above, I must leave the DP Base role to the end, after integrating hotfixes and addons with RVM-I.
I believe at long last I am getting close to a finished UA!
Regards
Malcolm
