The motherboard itself controls the fans.  Asus uses it's own Q-fan technology while others call it a different name.  You could try SpeedFan.
http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php

It's a utility that reports fan speeds, temps, voltages, etc. It also can control the fan speeds directly on some motherboards (handy chart is available to check for your motherboard).

Either that, or introduce another user choice in the BASE à la ATi CP/CCC.

Maybe at a future date.  For now, let's just concentrate on getting it working.  smile

Isn't that just a break-out box for the connector found on the mobo anyway?

I can't tell the differences either.  hmm
I'm guessing that the panel itself had some "HD" indicator on it.  My case (and the client's case) doesn't have any markings at all on it.  His machine worked fine using the AC97 front panel install with the Intel CP so that's what I'm getting together for now.  If we want to add the choice functionality in a later DP (can o' worms if you ask me) then we can add that into the DPbase and an ini.

I'll upload a test maybe tomorrow or Sat (I'm swamped at the moment).

Yeah, Intel could have made this so much easier.
Basically you have four download choices from their website:
front panel audio: Realtek AC'97
front panel audio: Intel HDA
and
SigmaTel control panel
Intel control panel

uugggghhhh.  sad

I'm making progress though. But I think we're going to have to restrict the DP to only using one control panel and one front audio option for now.

First:  Welcome to Driverpacks! smile
Second:  You should not be unpacking the driverpacks and integrating manually, the DP Base application will do this for you. (link to tutorial)
Third:  Your Intel issue is being addressed in a testing driverpack by jtdoom.  Be patient.  smile

Personally, I feel that only webcams that are built into systems (ie. notebooks or monitors with embedded cameras) should be supported since external webcams can always be installed later by downloading the appropriate drivers.
That's just my opinion though. smile

I install the drivers for my logitech fusion after everything is setup and the installer auto-downloads the latest release upon install anyway.

If you've tested this pack and have not yet reported back, please do so now.

We are in the process of finalizing the DP and need feedback now!

The external is a laptop type HDD. Is it possible to connect it to a Desktop PC?

You'd need a special adapter for that.  You should connect it to an actual notebook for testing.

Yeah, you certainly didn't need to post this in three different sections.  hmm

Did you integrate any Driverpacks into your source?  If so, which ones?  Because most of these devices are covered by existing Driverpacks.
If you want to download drivers for your notebook, I would suggest you try Toshiba (but they haven't been updated in a while).

Oh, and welcome to Driverpacks.  smile

I just re-read this thread from the beginning.
Aside from the licensing issues, I believe your problems are with your source.  You said you are using a Dell restore disk to build a custom XP disk to use on a non-dell system.  Good luck with that.  Everytime I have ever tried with that type of source I have failed.  I only use hologramed original CDs as source and I've never had a problem.
The chances of this Dell disc having the drivers you need for a non-Dell system is slim to none.

I'm with Jaak on this one.
If your original Dell discs no longer work, then you must have changed a bios setting or your hardware is somehow damaged.  Even if the drive was formated for Mac or Linux, the drive utility should at least be able to load and 'see' the drive.

I installed again last night using a test driverpack I built just for this machine and it installed perfectly.
I'll be doing a comparison between the release DP and my DP to look for bugs in the next few days.

I am also working on an Intel D946GZIS and it's affected by this bug.  Downloading the Intel driver Jason points to and running it from the desktop solves the problem.  I tried decompressing the files and running the setup.exe with the /s switch during RunOnceEx during windows setup but it did not work.
Unfortunately, this is a quick-turn-around case for me so the hardware is going out the door tonight.  I've pulled the HWIDs and the driver files (using Siginet's drivergrabber) and I'll be working on a fix.  No promises though.

If you're an adventurous sort of person, we need you!
Please download and test the new Graphics driverpacks.  These DriverPacks include a new method of installing the ATI Catalyst Control Center as well as all new drivers for all platforms (see changelog).
If you plan to use the new ATI CCC, you MUST have .NET installed for it to work properly.  Private testing has proved that ATI CCC will not install properly if .NET is integrated at GUIRunOnce or at RunOnceEx, but integrating .NET at SVCPACK (T-13) was successful.  If you would/would not like to see .NET integrated into the DriverPacks, please leave us feedback.

After you've tested the DP, please report back to this thread with your hardware type and test results (pass/fail) as well as any errors you receive during testing.

I don't think I mentioned the removal of those upgrade folders.  If I did, it was unintentional since that is not the objective of the tutorial.  The tutorial is meant as a basic introduction into the workings of the DriverPacks system.

I found where I went wrong. It's because I didn't choose "Enable QSC".
Another question. May I know what DriverPacks that I need to remove so I will not get the "exceeded 4096" error when using Method 1? Tnx.

QSC should have had nothing to do with your initial integration.  QSC only speeds up subsequent integrations because all the hard work (compressing/decompressing/shifting) has already been done and the DPbase just pulls files from the cache instead of doing all the hard work again.
FYI, I always disable QSC because I am always changing the DriverPacks (averaging 2 integrations per day for testing).

As for the "method 1 slimming".
If you're only installing on a limited hardware base, you can open each DP, delete the folders not needed, then repack and integrate.  Double-check to ensure the folders you deleted are not referenced in the DP ini file for each ini.
Make sure you delete the files in the QSC if you pursue this method since DPbase will pull files from the QSC first and your changes will not be used (unless you renumber your DriverPacks with a higher number.

Is it possible to create one windows XP image with driverpacks & sysprep and then use it on all the different hardware brands ?

Yes, but this is beyond the scope of my expertise so take my advice with a grain of salt. wink
You may have issues on systems using different HAL setups (notebook vs desktop).  If you use OEMBIOS.* files for autoactivation, you may have activation issues unless you incorporate OEMSCAN (search MSFN.org).

Maybe someone else with experience in this field can chime in with better info.

Method 1 is your problem.
There's a limitation in the way Windows handles the driver entries (path string statement limit of 4096 characters.) and method 1 exceeds that limit when using all the DriverPacks.
Your best bet is to use Method 2 and if you need access to all the drivers post-install then enable KTD (keep the drivers).
Method 2 is much faster than method 1 anyway and should be the default.

I will also try to test LAN 7.06 this week.  I may have access to an Averatec notebook that uses that NIC chip this week.

Your picture does not help us much.  Can you please post your HWIDs and a link to where ASUS has your PC listed?
