Topic: OPEN: keep F6 to load textmode drivers available as an option

I would love if there was a way for you to add a workaround into your base that would allow your MassStorage pack to work along side the F6 option, so that both are available.

I know there are many posts on how to manually add this.... but I'm just trying to put all my eggs in 1 basket and limit custom editing if i can.

I was pretty sure this was already implemented into the GUI version.

Nope...

It's this setting in the winnt.sif file:

MsDosInitiated = 0

0/no : started through network or CD, required for unattended installations
1/yes : started through DOS, e.g. floppy, enables F6 option

I'll add this as an option to select in the GUI, default will of course be 0 (as it is now)

EDIT:

As a reference: KB216258.

Hmm...
I was actually refering to using BOTH, instead of one or the other...
As-is, using the '0' option, i can not use F6... but can have an unattended install.
using '1', i can use F6, but not unattended.

I know some ppl had a workaround on MSFN, but I would love to see the workaround be added to the GUI so the F6 can be used in conjunction with the '0', without all the hassle of having to custom modify the files.

Re: OPEN: keep F6 to load textmode drivers available as an option

And why would you want  to have both if i may ask?

To load both the drivers of DriverPack MassStorage and an additional driver. Or to make a work-around possible.

Though I must admit that I don't know which text mode mass storage driver is missing? tongue

Re: OPEN: keep F6 to load textmode drivers available as an option

Well for instance, I've posted about the SIS964 SATA/RAID chipset in the past, it will BSoD for some reason with your pack, But if it is used from F6 it works without a hitch...... strange huh. I sent the 'correct' drivers b4, but we found out that they were the exact same one that was included..... so, i'm lost. But, I guess this wouldn't be needed if we could figure out what is causing the BSoD issues with this particular chipset.

Re: OPEN: keep F6 to load textmode drivers available as an option

I had the same problem with Intel sata raid. However, my workaround involves the long, arduous, tedious, time consuming and back breaking task of REMing out JAHCI in SCSI.LOAD tongue    Seems that some drivers are incompatible with others.

<shrug>

Maybe you should try ridding JAHCI? or some other driver.   Go down the line.

You can try putting semi colons down the list and try to find out which ones are conflicting. You can start with jahci  tongue

I think using textmode 'as is' causes a BSOD. So he needs to use F6 instead. I had the same problem. However, after REMing all drivers, one by one, I found that JMicron (JAHCI) was causing an issue with intel sata raid. I posted the driver entries so that someone with this issue could try experimenting with suppressing the loading of drivers. smile

Re: OPEN: keep F6 to load textmode drivers available as an option

will this work without breaking unattended installation

twig123 wrote:

1. Integrate Bâshrat the Sneaky's Driverpacks. I'm using method 2.
2. Set OemPreinstall=No in winnt.sif. In this case your $OEM$ folder won't work.
3. You can copy all necessary files and the $OEM$ folder through presetup.cmd, which is in your i386 folder after itegrating Driverpacks.
For example:

http://www.msfn.org/board/F6_OemPreinst … p;p=122599

I get a BSOD with sil3112A all i do is edit  txtsetup.sif in the [SCSI.LOAD] section:
And put SI3112 before si3112r and it works if i dont it seem to pick the driver for si3112r and not si3112 which causes the
BSOD I get.

Re: OPEN: keep F6 to load textmode drivers available as an option

F6 isnt needed just put in the floppy with your driver during the setup and it will load it automaticly.

Re: OPEN: keep F6 to load textmode drivers available as an option

@muiz
Could you please elaborate on this? What would be F6 for, if (as you say) it isn't needed to load additional drivers in textmode?

Re: OPEN: keep F6 to load textmode drivers available as an option

Just as it says

Re: OPEN: keep F6 to load textmode drivers available as an option

"It"? Sorry, but I don't understand you. If you just put in diskette with some driver during textmode in unattended installation this driver wont be installed and hard drive wont be detected. Maybe there are some settings or tweaks that allow you to do this?

It would be much easier and very interesting (although maybe less cool) if you wrote more then "Just as it says"

Chris

Re: OPEN: keep F6 to load textmode drivers available as an option

When you use XP unattended,and this is in your first part of winnt.sif :

[Data]
	UnattendedInstall = "Yes"
	MsDosInitiated=No

[Unattended]
	UnattendMode = FullUnattended
	UnattendSwitch = Yes
	OemSkipEula = Yes
	FileSystem = *
	WaitForReboot = No
	TargetPath = "\Windows"
	Hibernation = No
      Repartition= No
	OemPreinstall=Yes

Any floppy with sata drivers will load automaticly without pressing F6 during setup.

Wich part dont you understand?

Just make sure the floppy is inserted immediately following the "press any key to boot from CD" prompt.

Yep , floppys dont work if they are not in the computer.LOL

Re: OPEN: keep F6 to load textmode drivers available as an option

I'm confused by this, I have been integrating drivers since the days of the .cmd files, and doing custom windows configs.... even making repair option work....

I have never NOT had the Press F6 no matter which method i use.

I can't speak from personal experience because I do not use floppies anymore for years already, however, my (oldish) testing rig still features a 5.25" floppy drive (where floppies were still floppy!) and a 3.5" one and I can clearly hear and see them being accessed during the "F6" message in setup, so, appararently, there must be some access check going on even though I do not press F6 (for the lack of floppies and the need for additional drivers).

I hence expect this to work just as muiz says:
Put the floppy in before setup commences and it should find them (why else the access?).

Also, this is not the access during POST, which I have disabled in the BIOS anyway...

Re: OPEN: keep F6 to load textmode drivers available as an option

I know its not needed , but ...it works

Re: OPEN: keep F6 to load textmode drivers available as an option

Sorry for such a delay, but I've been busy.

I'm confused. Method described by muiz never worked for me (e.g. I sometimes forgot to press F6 - in my previous job I installed Windows very often on many computers). Neither it works now. I've tried again with txtsetup.oem in main floppy directory and drivers in subdirectory (the way this driver is delivered) or with drivers in main directory. None of these variants works.

My winnt.sif is very similar:

[Data]
    MSDosInitiated="No"
    UnattendedInstall="Yes"
    AutomaticUpdates=1

[Unattended]
    UnattendMode=ReadOnly
    UnattendSwitch="No"
    WaitForReboot="No"
    OemSkipEula=Yes
    OemPreinstall="Yes"

I used to have UnattendSwitch="Yes", but I've changed it to No because I want setup to parse OOBEINFO.INI. With Yes it didn't work either without pressing F6.
Right now I'm using via drivers for testing, because that's the chipset i have. Maybe it depend's on the driver?...

Chris
