I think we can conclude the topic title can change.
I am not going to force you to also do tests with Method one, but if you want to do method 1 for reasons of your own, please tell it to use QSC.

Mr_smartepants has worked very hard on all three graphics DriverPacks, and finished three testpacks today.
There is a topic in Graphics forum where he asks people to test them.
I see some lDell Latitude laptops in your list, and current version of Graphics seems to have have a problem with some.. My very own attempt to solve the issue was not good.
I do not know wether you have problems (you could be using a modified pack) but we do need testing of those  newest testpacks for graphics.

hint, hint. smile

I asked, because that is a line that MUST say NO or zero

Dear Gentlebeings,
please remember that these are TEST versions.

-G\I\8 intel restored (an older driver)
-G\M\1\  Matrox (all) updated to v2.04.00.179 SE U, 05/17/2007 (mr_smartepants)
- INI sections for installing Matrox Control panel were added.

Graphics_C_test
new ATI control panel install (A-2, A-6, A-A).

Please don't shoot the pianist.
If you plan to use the new ATI CCC, you MUST have .NET installed for it to work properly..
(I integrate the updated .Net Framework with RVM so it loads before the control panel installer starts)
Tell us what works and what does not work, with some details of the hardware tested on.
Many hours of work went in this.

POST updated for 707.test2

w\n\f\2 is for 311 and has roughly 170 HWIDs
W\n\f\1 also for 311, and one singe hwid.

thank goodness that this single HWID is still in the other..

If you ever wondered why the entries in INI are NOT always in the alphanumerical order...

in pack 7.04 The DELL would take control and LSI could not have won during txtmode because the overlap was edited out. (it was edited by me, because it was OLDER, and UNSIGNED)

in pack 7.06.bad (the one that did a BSOD) the older DELL was still there and gets loaded befor Lsi so it took control, LSI had all the HWIDs this Dell loaded on but control was already took (-) so... they crashed.
result is that you saw a BSOD either at txtmode or at PnP.

because you reported that it did a BSOD on you, this was a logical step.

Hi Narag, compare D-3 and L-4 INI, and their INF in the folder..
In the 7.04 pack, DELL had a newer version (signed) than what LSI (unsigned) had.

in 7.06.x, LSI is newer and signed, and supports all what DELL [D-3] had (plus one more).
Now, during txtmode, two drivers would "fight" for control, and one gets it.
later on, windows GUI starts, and PnP renumerates,
The OTHER can WIN.
BSOD.
Therefore I think it was wiser to delete D-3 (older signed) because it would compete with the new LSI (not only Newer, but newer and signed).

Do you see what I mean?

EDIT
WHY did I tell you to not delete old DriverPacks?
proprietary.. masks...
That new LSI will MOST likely support that chip you have, but there is always that possibility that it rather likes Dell's own brew.
When That happens, then is when you have to edit the INI and disable [L-4] in the older pack, and tell us about it.

Hi

last night I removed folder \\D\M\D\3 (a Dell variant what got covered by another Driver elswhere.) and then simply deleted entire Massstorage.ini section for [D-3].
I 7zipped the Ini and D folder to build a new pack, and when I ran tests with that new pack no problem.

another way is to write a zero in drivercount= 1 for the driver you think you do not need.
(leave the folders as they are)

I think we are looking at an error in using 7zip here.
When you have packed up the files, check the zip.

the ini and a D folder have to be in root of what 7zip shows you.
(if you see a long named folder in there, it is BAAAAAAAD.)

jtdoom,

Would you like me to be a tester?

HOOT, HOOT.

you are now officially ours, and first errant is about BSOD.

BSOD will mean 'bring sushi or dumplings' when we are done.

erm, I mentioned that I put it back to REQ folder, for people with more expertise.
(Main reason, I have no matrox card to test on)

Hi,
Please test this new update asap.
Them drivers do have overlap, which is why the zero was used.

Narag?
oops, wrong txt.

The updated driver in LSI [L-4] actually supported all the HWIDs that the DELL [D-3] had.
D-3 has therefore been deleted.

(keep a copy of the old pack)
you see, if LSI drivers are intended for other chipmasks, it could still be bad, and then you would have to do an INI edit in older pack, where you could disable L-4

(After all, INI edit was made possible for end users, so that they can modify supported drivers for txtmode.)

CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHY SEARCH (For Txt) DOES NOT BRING UP Txtsetup.sif IN THE RESULTS.

That was with caps-lock ON on purpose.

hehe, when I read the story, I went BINGO!
The Dell [d-3] and LSi [L-4] dillema was documented in this.
(there you go guys, one fine reason to write documentation on what was done.)
The LSI driver mentioned in there had been updated since then, and was now newer, plus that it now listed one more DELL than that Dell [d-3] itself had had.

Really, the recent reducing of BSOD was because Overlap was reduced.
During TXTmode, it it really has to be avoided.
[D-3] is therefore gone.

BSOD... I want it to mean "Bring Sushi Or Dumplings".
The observations we put in that learning pains txt will be a useful basis for future helpers.

When I did the recent Silicon Image update, I looked at ALL the HWIDs these two updates supported.
Every single one was searched for and no overlap was allowed.
That is tedious work, since we still have no database.

This would be a wet dream.
Dbase 1; what HWIDs do we support in the released packs.
2, what is in those new drivers.
3, find overlap.
Then, use your brains and advanced comparison tools..
Common sense tells me that people make errors.
Peer review is a good way to correct errors.
Don't shoot the pianist. Next tune played gets you your honey .

hi
do you still have Graphics A 7.04 or 7.05.2?
I ask, because this was stable.

And yesterday a Mass storage controller issue was reported, and it was caused by an LSI update done about fourteen days ago, which happened to have support for DELL.
The Mass storage DriverPacks update is ready for upload.

hi
does it have  OemPreinstall=Yes  or     OemPreinstall=1 in winnt.sif ?

Hi

I said time will tell, and the time has come, I suppose..

here's a snippet of a long post.
----------------------------------
Because of this finding, we had to make a choice..
In our example, the OEM Dell driver [D-3] has a valid signature unlike the native LSI [L-4].
The same Dell HWIDs were suppored in LSI [L-4].
The Dell driver has also a slightly higher version number (1.21.08.00) and a newer date than the original LSI files.
So? What influenced our choice?
If D-3 is signed, keep it.
If the SYS file size for the one in LSI is different, definatetly keep Dell.
Still more considerations were made.
Is there a choice between unsigned generic versus signed proprietary? Keep signed proprietary.
A choice between Subsys and 'proprietary" subsys? Keep signed 'proprietary" subsys.
The filter (mass INI) must be changed to not use non-signed LSI in [L-4] for hwid signed in [D-3]
One could say that generic HWIDs in signed driver should be kept, and unsigned generics can be tossed away if one has it covered by a signed driver. Then, Dell won. BUT... It actually LOST.
In some cases, one can make an edit to a signed driver's INF, and kill the generic in there, keeping the specified subs. You can do that if this one is proprietary, and the other supports a lot more generic and SUB_sys HWIDs as well.
The LSI driver was not signed, older, and therefore Jaak edited the Mass storage INI for [L-4] so that it did not list DELL's HWIDs.
One "could" go as far as editing its INF as well, but since Dell was newer, it was the DELL's INF that got edited to not support the generic. (Jaak did that because Dell, just like Compaq and other OEMs do, often use proprietary chips. And, the SYS they use, is most likely specific for that proprietary chip. Well, the size was different as well.)
LSI's can most probably handle the generics better than Dell's prorietary sys-file.
Will this be the best solution?
Time will tell.
====================================

When That was written, The LSI was DriverVer=04/12/2004,1.10.00, and everything still worked for you..
And now it has DriverVer=06/13/2005,1.20.18.00, and it no longer works.
So, we'll try fix that..

hi Benners
a txt exists
There was peer review on it, and some writers' collaboration, and I called it learning pains...

It tells a story.
http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=1688

I already have those, and what Helmi said looks to be true.
HKR,    Ndi\params\Channel, default,    0, "11"

I don't know if that driver has the information for all 13 channels.
I would have to compare..

Hi Echo_platoon
You're a good Watson, so yes..
I'll contact Bâshrat the Sneaky.

just did some tests, and the answer to the twoliner you metioned is that they can co-exist, and do what they must do. (of course, if dac960nt is needed during TXTmode because 2000 cannot see the hard drive, then it has to be enabled for 2000.. (and possibly disable another, to avoid having it bounce a memory boundary.))

Hi

dac960nt was replaced in my latest tests on XP source.
and TXTmode would use it

Will now run DPsBase on a win2000 and see what that does.

well, that entry replaced it in win2000
and txtmode would NOT use it

so, the two lines can co-exist

What brand and model (plus revision) motherboard do you have this problem on?

first thing you should look at is WINNT.SIF.
Nlite probably undid the change DPsBase made

when I do something like this for a final build..

X- - nLite - I previously did Unattended settings, and saved the WINNT.SIF file to a folder which has a few variants in it. (for re-use)
copy a source from storage drive to working folder
copy WINNT.SIF into it (if it is not yet in it)

nLite - (SP slipstream, if needed) Remove (Dotnet and little else) components , Options and Tweaks, LANGUAGES (99 Mb), regional settings and keyboards.
RyanVM - Slipstream RyanVM (previously tested and known good Updates) and Addons (dotnet and a few others).

Copy/SAVE that folder to storage.  (example, HOME_NL_OEMgold\XHNL_gold_SP2_LiteRVM\
Driverpacks - Slipstream driverpacks (all packs + some 3rd party)
make ISO (RVM or Nlite) XHNL_gold_SP2_LiteRVM70626.iso
rename the working folder to XHNL_gold_SP2_LiteRVM70626

after test in VPC and live machine tell me this is a good one, I can drop in variants of WINNT.SIF,

If the WIINT.SIF is one that does not autopartition/autoformat.. then I can also add a few lines just before EXIT in presetup.cmd

hi
you did not download the update.

Hi

you can help us improving the pack when you tell us which mainboards have not been properly supported, and by giving a link to the drivers you use to install those.

AR-1 is out, the new version got up not long ago..

This time I ran debug sessions and tests.
Checked txtsetup.sif and dosnet.inf.
I don't trust WYSIWYG editors no more.
All unneeded tabs and spaces in the INI are gone, so one immediately sees carriage returns.. wink

It's amazing that a single comma or carriage return can break this.. But that is what can happen.
Any small typo can break this. sad
Like an underscore that goes missing (it is a a mystery how that happened).
Some people take the time to figure out what went wrong when it goes critically wrong, and detailed reports do help. We do need some extra testers, and people who already make their own modifictions can tell us how  to make better modifications.
We need Dr Watsons too.. Yesterday proved this, don't you think?
