That HWID database Helmi just stickied lists some interesting facts.

Rich, this work we did will pay off.
You can see I posted a link to what we worked on.
Its based on what's in Mass storage INI.
And, what's in the INI must not cause a conflict once PnP runs.
Therefore, some INF's got edited.

Jeff, our work on LAN can be linked to too.
(it has relevance, because what we did was useful in dupe filenames/INF names)

Why I started this topic is obvious now.
Some drivers cannot be IN the packs.
A driver for NEWER BIOS/Firmware causes BSOD when the user has OLDER BIOS/firmware, and when the ORIGINAL old and ORIGINAL newer have 100 percent HWID match, there is NO WAY to write an exception that would find a NON-COMMON to disable the other driver.
THE EDIT HERE ADDED ORIGINAL to above paragraph.
(because some INF had changes, origininal content must looked at too.)

The SFXminiPacks idea was approved.
If we have a single HWID in a BIOS for an OLD BIOS that is NOT in the newer driver, then I would very much like to see exceptions written so that both BIOS versions of a chip could be in the DriverPacks.

I would not know how to write that sort of exception, but, we's going to be a team with real solutions.

he he, you know, one of the testpacks of two months ago failed, it had changes like this.., But what I had done was use search and I replaced a lot more, so it probably got messed up..

feedback by people who know what makes it tick like a swiss clock, would be very welcome.

done 55/62/75
like this

[iaStor_Inst.Services]
AddService = iaStor75, %SPSVCINST_ASSOCSERVICE%, iaStor_Service_Inst, iaStor_EventLog_Inst

[iaStor_mobl_Inst.Services]
AddService = iaStor75, %SPSVCINST_ASSOCSERVICE%, iaStor_mobl_Service_Inst, iaStor_EventLog_Inst

will pack up, and update file on server.
I want to work on that Nvidia mess too.

any help on that?

torerro?

it is your lucky day.
sorry, bad link.

thanks for the edit.. the example was what I thought you meant.

I am tempted to ask "you wanna make them?"

one thing is clear, there WILL ALWAYS be overlap in the Packs, because there are drivers for 2003 / 2000 / XP which have THREE drivers for same hardware, and one can easily see they will have same HWIDs in them.

I mentioned we currently have an Excell file what we started to use to see the duplicates in the INI in.
With proper annotations in it, this is a good worksheet to see what is used for what.
You can thank Mr EchoPlatoon for the work done on that.
The Excell file may even be made accessible to the users of DriverPacks.
--------------

I think I see what you mean by the service display name
("friendly-name")
I had no idea that this could be a problem in sysprep.
One learns something new every day.

I'll look, and may upload an updated testversion soon.

Hi

S\4 is one of those that works for a particular firmware (BIOS version) of the Silicon Image chip this driver is for.
It cannot be in the pack together with the older driver that supports the older BIOS.

IN\1\O is intel iastor old, and the workaround to that issue has to be tested by guys like you.
there is a testversion, updated YESTERDAY.

thanks.

this may be why it sometimes did not work here.

look at bottom of this.. the 2110 is outta there.
the olde way is back in, and a bunch of new drivers.

it is a TEST version

an even bigger cartload of new drivers now have INI, the three iastor sys files renamed/and INF with internal references done for the change/and no OVERLAP in iastorxx, and some more fixes.

we have a working system for overlap in excell, but it will still require manual work because the drivers we download decide what we have in INI anyway.

Hi zookeeper.
you waited long enough, the files finally got looked at again.

OK, that was cryptic.

DMI or destop management interface is what hardware detection uses.
what happens when you uninstall, power off, reboot, shut, then pug it in same slot again?

who knows.
what happens if you uninstall, power off, reboot, shut, then pug it in another SLOT?
DMI forces a redo in the CMOS where BIOS stores detected hardware.

what will often work, and is recommended anyway.
set BIOS to allow NVRAM to YES
aka
refresh aka RESET BIOS configuration to ON

and these, dear gentlebeings, will set themselves to NO after a reboot.
Comment, BIOS /CMOS does not automatically reset if card is not moved. but if you allow it, it will look once.

I don't mind helping in other than DriverPacks forum on such questions.
but, we are not a general help forum.
smile

Tiger, a DMI reseat, always good.
and Tiger, it is JAAK.

test version UPDATED

yep, Mr. Holmes, you are right.
Those INI sections do not exist in the release.

But, the files for i-3, i-4, i-5 and i-6 are in the pack. (I think a request was not finalised, but the files were in none the less)

Ruudboek, if you read this, have a look.
they are all SCSI miniport, and i-5 is SAS

Many Mass Storage drivers we download have overlap in HWIDs.

we have a dillemma.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_Attached_SCSI

We must know wether SAS and server RAID drivers can co-exist in the DriverPacks.

full overlap.

Hi Randall,
welcome to DriverPacks.

I assume you used the driverpacks to install the machine.
Question 1,  DID you use the driverpacks to integrate drivers to your home SP2?

Q 2,  if you did, can you post HWIDs list (tool is in my signature) and the finisher log (found in 'windows' folder)

above post was edited..
NOTE; That test-sys-prep-file was pulled long ago.
It probably has errors.

hi
when you try such an approach

if: 1; you change ALL references to filename in the INFs from iastor.sys to iastorXX.sys
Notes, there are references  to iastor.sys in iastor.inf AND in iahci.inf.
BOTH most be done.
(stick to 8.3 convention)

then:
A> you must change filename in IN\1 from iastor.sys to iastorXX.sys
B> you must change INI section where you change filename from iastor.sys to iastorXX.sys

if: 2; you did that for all three (iastor55, iastor62 and iastor75)
(The XX were used instead of the numbers)
then
pack it up, use it as mass storage pack to run base on a fresh copy of your windows CD.
And then TEST this non-sysprep CDR on a live test machine which uses one of the iastor files.

btw, this approach was almost in the pack.
It should work, and it can be in a future Pack.

OK
Thanks.
That SiS v-2110 is a problem..  and we better have no problem.

what you are saying is,
all SiS drivers disabled during TXTmode, and then it gets picked up by #2110

Q; But why does it come up with BSOD when the same driver is used in graphical portion of installer?

the answer to that?
1, the drivers cannot co-exist on the CD.
2, the 2030 was the one that got updated to 2110

now IF you used the nightly. but DID YOU?
then answer 3 is> version 2110 wont do it in TXTmode.

Did you try that nightly?

Hi
SiS 180/180 has been worked on..

this is a post in a similar topic, and in there you'll find a link to another post with an anouncement of changes  for a future release.

hi

have you ever started completely fresh with the prepared winnt.sif IN PLACE before you ran Base?
(fresh as in, a new clean copy of the source, put winnt.sif in, then run base)

what I see happening here is this.
the backup in that source does not have the stuff you want.
when Base starts, it first restores the backup.

hi
Welcome to DriverPacks.

This will take some time to fix, but I found a problem.
-you won't believe this.. there are six in there, and Four folders in D\M\I\ have no INI section.-
