It appears as if the latest F6 drivers are not available for Windows 2000, the XP version says it is corrupted during install.

Just an FYI.

Are you running SP3 or SP2 ???

The above HWID is included in SP3.

One option  is to make "Autorun" an optional files in 3rd Party.

Just test and indeed got a "503 Service Temporarily Unavailable"

Stu

Between "Start" & "Settings" add an option of "Set Optimal Defaults"
This may help with any confusion for OPTIMAL settings and ability to "Reset" defaults for testing if the user is having problems

This would add a "Location" - more later
Set "Platform" as "Disc"
Select ALL "DriverPacks"
Choose "Method 2"
Choose "GUIRunOnce"
Disable "KTD'
"Enable QSC"
Turn OFF ATI & Nvidia ?????

Script writes defaults to DPs_Base.ini

Still gives the more adventurous to set things as they want.

Location, location, location.

If the Basexxx.7z could set a default folder on C: i.e. C:\Dpack & add sub folders as needed and install itself to that folder the tutorial could say:
Install all DriverPacks to "C:\dpack\DriverPacks", all 3rd party to "C:\dpack\3rd party DriverPacks" and choose "Set Defaults" to run. Gives more uniformity to the project

As I said in a different post, I have a lazy streak in this old body and a need for simplicity.
This would create a PHD system (Push Here Dummy)

Just my 2 cents worth, or as Mr S would say, my 2p's worth. (been away for 25 years)

(Glad to be back, Vegas vacation)

I use XP, Nlite and DP's every day without a problem.

Copy XP SP1 or 2 to your HD in a folder of your choice. In the Nlite options use the "Service Pack" option to slip SP3 into the SP1/2 source.

Use Nlite to create a "Bootable ISO". Create a CD, this is your SP3 Master.

Use this Master as your source. Saves a lot of time as SP3 is now in your Base CD.

I use this system every day when testing DP's and have never had a problem.

Yeh, I know. Guess I was feeling lazy.

Thanks

Original title:  Create a DP.TXT file

Any way to create a DP.txt file when DP-Base runs.
Below is an example of the directory structure of my DVD & sample DP.TXT
I would like a DP.txt of all the DriverPacks used to create this DVD
Would be helpful if I/we forget to write the versions down i.e.
Base8.09RC1 - DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_809D2 etc.
Not too much room on the front of a DVD.

I can probably find a VIA MB with VIA Sound in my old stuff.

Will wait until tomorrow so I can create a DVD with the latest nightlies.

However, when I attempted to upgrade an existing Windows 2000 installation, all of the driverpacks files were extracted into the root of my hard drive.  There's a folder named "D" with all the actual drivers, plus a lot of loose files in the root.  I'm guessing the bug has something to do with the fact that Windows 2000 is installed to a directory named "WINNT" and XP installs to a directory named "WINDOWS".

This is off topic.

If you use Nlite to create your Win 2000 CD , there is an option of where to install the Windows files.

Default is c:\WINNT  --  change to c:\WINDOWS and create a new BASE CD.

When installing WIN2000 use this CD.

I find that all the utilities I use like this format.

I have to agree, I was one of the people who asked for a progress bar.

When a new chipset comes out, the install can fail as the older drivers may not work, we need to see where it failed.

I would rather wait an extra minute during the progress bar stage than waste several minutes if the install fails WITHOUT knowing what was happening.

Just my 2 cents worth.

There were several "rumors" concerning Nvidia so I assumed them to be true, even the best can be fooled !!!

I have never had a problem trusting NeoWin.

From an interview with Custom PC

VIA quits motherboard chipset business.  (source: Neowin.net)

VIA is now focusing on x86 processors and the integrated motherboard market, rather than chipsets for third-party CPUs
VIA P4X266 motherboard chipset

Previously one of the best chipset makers for enthusiasts looking for high performance on a budget, VIA has told Custom PC that it now sees no future in making chipsets for third parties such as Intel and AMD.

Speaking to Custom PC, VIA’s vice president of corporate marketing in Taiwan, Richard Brown, explained that: ‘One of the main reasons we originally moved into the x86 processor business was because we believed that ultimately the third party chipset market would disappear, and we would need to have the capability to provide a complete platform.’

‘That has indeed come to pass,’ said Brown. He also added that ‘Intel provides the vast majority of chipsets for its processors and, following its purchase of ATI, AMD is also moving very quickly in the same direction.’

Rumours about VIA quitting the chipset business started to surface towards the end of last year, when DigiTimes alleged that the former president and general manager of VIA’s platform business, Chewei Lin, planned to resign and take 40 VIA chipset technicians over to ASMedia, a subsidiary of Asustek.

VIA’s previously had a rocky relationship with Intel over its third-party chipsets. Back in 2001, VIA released the Apollo P4X266 chipset, which brought DDR memory support to the Pentium 4, despite not having a license from Intel. To avoid the wrath of Intel, motherboard makers produced boards based on the chipset using VIA’s name rather than their own brands.

We asked Brown if VIA’s relationship with Intel had recovered since then, and he replied: ‘The only way I can answer that is to say that VIA and Intel are direct competitors in a very tough market. Having said that, we do have a great deal of respect for Intel not just as a competitor but also for the huge contribution they have made in driving the development of the PC industry.‘

Has VIA made the right decision, or is there still a place for third-party chipset manufacturers in the business? What's more, where does this leave other chipset makers such as SiS? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Look out for a full interview with VIA next week, where we discuss Nano, multi-core CPUs and VIA’s cooperation with Nvidia.

We don't know if you are using XP Home or Pro.

The late versions of Pro changed their key # system as Microsoft was running out of Pro #'s.

If you use the "latest SP3" OEM CD then it seems to work with late and early key #'s.

Hope this helps.

When a new post was on the screen I would click on the name of the person who had posted and wait at least 10 seconds.

When submitting a reply 30 seconds was not unusual.

Not now, almost instant.

Muiz, I know you are into Vista and use Vlite.

Question:

Do you know of a way to add apps, i.e. OpenOffice as we currently do with Nlite with WinRar files.

I know, this is off topic with the DP site but the future holds both XP and Vista.

I tried your links for Vista updates etc. and they worked perfectly, took 4 hours to slip SP1 and Vlite of all updates etc.

Thank for the help and advice.

Hope we can interest the others in this.

Welcome, please let me clarify.

You can use a new non formatted hard drive right out of the bag, or, use a drive that has an OS on it and during the course of a Windows XP install you are offered the choice of deleting the partition(s). Delete the partition(s) and and choose "quick format" (takes less time).

This should also be the ONLY drive connected other that a DVD Reader, unplug all other Hard Drives and USB Card Readers, this makes sure the OS is installed on Drive C only and prevents data loss in case a second drive is connected.

Your DriverPack DVD will then install XP and all the drivers you integrated.

Please install DriverPacks using method 2, it is the more modern approach.

Good luck.

I know you all like to use DVD-RW but I had many problems with them.

The price of DVD+R is now so cheap that I am prepared to "waste" a few cents.

I never have problems with single use DVD's and burn at 8x.

Just a thought.
