If I uncheck 'DriverPack MassStorage 8.04' and 'DriverPack MassStorage Text Mode' and try to slipstream, it gives me a 'Critical Error' popup and says 'Could not extract files necessary for method 2.' I just downloaded all the recent Drivers and the BASE too.

Re: No settings file found error [solved]

Well since you only included part of your log ther is not enough info to help...

but it seems that your mass storage pack is corrupt and so is your source...

I have to guess without sufficcient info being provided. please see read before you post

Re: No settings file found error [solved]

I copy pasted everything from the log file in my DriverPacks directory where I extracted everything to. I just double checked and what I posted is everything in that file, there's nothing else..

I just re-downloaded the MassStorage pack and tried again, but it doesn't work. So I tried copying my Windows XP CD again, then tried to slipstream the drivers, and I still get the same exact error (the log file is the same too, word for word)

Re: No settings file found error [solved]

I would not do that is a "new folder" and a ""new folder (2) ""
I figure when you use folders closer to root, you will have better result.

(and forgive me, but new folder and new folder sounds so awul noobish. )

-edit
note to self: If I can reproduce this behaviour, I can wonder about what breaks the process..
My guess is that the "space (2)" in the "foldername" causes this

Re: No settings file found error [solved]

the first line of your log should tell us which base version was used.
It is really really hard to help when the most basic of info is not included.

Please read the read before you post in my signature to see what i require at minimum TIA

It's Windows XP SP2.

There is only one account in the Users and it's Administrator with all admin rights

I just did a full reformat and will try to reinstall Windows XP SP3 instead and will post the log here

Re: No settings file found error [solved]

I cant get past the fact that the first half of your log is missing...

something is terribly wrong

ps the permissions issue only occurs with vista...

When I try again, leaving out the MassStorage driver out of the DriverPacks folder, and slipstream, it gives me the error message right away: "Could not extract files necessary for method 2."

When I try Method 1, it says "Could not extract DriverPack Chipset" and when I take out the Chipset from the folder, it says the same message but with the next driver on the list, and so on until I have removed all of them and there's nothing left to slipstream

Re: No settings file found error [solved]

I think jaak already told you that using your desktop as a location for this was not a good idea...

I must agree - although there is no reason that it shouldn't work...

when i do this it works fine... (but it is really strange thing to do)

Here are the things that raise an eyebrow for me...
I suggested a clean source so you should have seen this in your log...

<PREP> No previous DriverPacks installation found, Prep stage will be skipped

your log says...
2008-05-08 16:57:59 : <PREP> Cleaned up \$OEM$\cmdlines.txt.

\$OEM$\cmdlines.txt would not exist in a clean source.

your log says...
Failed to CAB compress C:\Documents and Settings\e\Desktop\drivers\tmp\DPMtmp\D\M\AM\amdbusdr.sys to C:\Documents and Settings\e\Desktop\drivers\QSC\wnt5_x86-32_uni_DP_MassStorage_804_textmode\AMDBUSDR.SY_.

that is quite strange...

This smells like a bad HDD (or a full one)
and you are doing other things to your source that you have failed to mention.
and / or you are running some program that is interfering with the base (virus scanner or...)

I don't like putting folders like this in my desktop..  sad

you say you just reloaded this machine... where did you get your installation disk?

Re: No settings file found error [solved]

The installation disc is just the regular Windows XP SP2 CD they sell at the store (I bought mine a long time ago) but I installed SP3 from the Microsoft website so it has all the patches and stuff already, etc. I used nLite to integrate the SP3 into my original SP2 CD files, and that's all I did, no tweaks or anything

Also, I tried placing the installation files (the one with the I386 folder and everything) in C:/ as well as a separate folder for the DriverPacks in C:/ (C:/ where there is the WINDOWS folder, Program Files, etc.) but it still didn't work when I tried

Here is the newest one I tried after full reformat (not <Quick>) and reinstall with clean source

Re: No settings file found error [solved]

well that is a MUCH cleaner log (and it is all there)... hmmm

can you open the mass storage pack manualy (verify it is not corrupted)

Re: No settings file found error [solved]

I can open the MassStorage with WinRAR and even extract it fine and it gives me no errors. I used the MD5 checksums after I downloaded it too.

But even if I take out MassStorage and don't use the MassStorage driver, I still get errors.

Here is the new ones if I don't use MassStorage in the DriverPacks folder within my driverpacks directory (with the .ini and .log files in them)

Re: No settings file found error [solved]

something is blocking write access to your source - specificaly 7zip in this case.

"Could not extract files necessary for method 2."

what other programs are running on your box.

we have thousands of users yet you are the ONLY one with this problem.

Re: No settings file found error [solved]

It's just the default install and the only non-default program running is DaemonTools. I closed Security Center and disabled the Firewall/Automatic Updates and there's no anti-virus running. Other than that, everything is just how it is when you first install Windows

Re: No settings file found error [solved]

Since software is not the issue and corrupt files are not the issue then hardware must be the issue.
This is reinforced by the fact that you needed to reload your machine in the first place

I suggest that you find a memory testing program such as http://www.memtest.org/

and check your CPU fan and heat-sink for good airflow and proper seating.
Check your power supply fan and if possible the voltages or use an alternate.

Re: No settings file found error [solved]

wait a minute..
Deamon tools.
You don't have the source copied into a virtual CD I hope.
The source copy must be on Hard disk.

The answer was 42?

Re: No settings file found error [solved]

His log indicates the c: drive - good thinking though...

Re: No settings file found error [solved]

It must be hardware then

(I just use DaemonTools to copy an image from my external HDD that has the installation files for various programs)

I have burned memtest to a CD and I have booted it up on the computer and it's testing right now.

But I don't think you guys do hardware support, so...yea lol. Do you guys know which forum I can go to get help if memtest finds errors?

Okay it finished and it says "Pass complete, no errors, press Esc to exit" towards the center of the screen, but it looks like it's re-doing the test over again...if it's just an endless loop of testing, I'll let it test a couple more times to make sure

It did the test 3 times...but it didn't report any errors so I guess my memory is okay...I wonder what the problem could be

Re: No settings file found error [solved]

it could still be caused by deamontools.. Do not copy with deamontools.
Windows ctrl+A (select all) ctrl+C (copy) and then CTRL+V (paste) or "select all" and drag & drop works just as well.

Re: No settings file found error [solved]

DriverPacks can not stream into an ISO (or image)

Re: No settings file found error [solved]

I don't copy with DaemonTools and I don't use it either, I just have it just in case so I can transfer programs if I need it

I put in my Windows XP CD, open the CD drive from My Computer and copy paste everything

The iso image I have is just one of the encrypted partitions I have on my external HDD with some stuff on it, it doesn't really have to do with anything since I can just unplug it when I don't use it

Re: No settings file found error [solved]

You must have system and hidden files being enabled to show for a proper copy of all (100%) of the disc's content.
Either enable that in Explorer's settings or make use of, say, nLite, for the task to copy from the disc to the HDD (that will definately copy all files regardless of Explorer's settings).

Re: No settings file found error [solved]

Yes I already know all that
