Good observation Pig (and welcome to DriverPacks)

It would be a good idea to add mass storage text mode drivers. As it is this image would not support SATA or other non natively supported HDD controllers.

This would require running DriverPacks BASE a second time, selecting "disc" as the platform and then selecting mass storage text mode. (M1 or M2 doesn't matter). Only select the text mode checkbox, and not the pack itself.
*The DriverPack MassStorage will be extracted to the SAD (Stand Alone Drivers) folder so that the PnP Mass storage drivers will then be setup / included with the devpath command.

Well done Somebody... Glad you took the time to create your own thread as I suggested.

Let's get some feedback on this from some of the other crazy sysprep guys then we'll get it copied over to the FAQs in it's final form.

I have added you to the donors group for your efforts. This opens up some hidden forums and gives you access to our testing team beta packs (our 'nightlies').

Thanks a million~!

Jeff

That is very helpful pOcHa

need to know how to copy the DriverPacks to  "%WinPEDriver% (not %WinPEDriverS%) in root of install drive"

if you can post that (or if i get a chance to look it up) i'll move this to the FAQ section of our site.

Welcome to DriverPacks

I think advertising in BASE is a good selling point for us to keep MaxCDN or other company sponsoring us... I don't see it as a solution to keeping our heads above water financially. There is no reason Wim should have to pay out of pocket for our site hosting on a project this popular. Wim does not really want to advertize in BASE... and I see his point quite clearly on that.

Keep the ideas coming DD, we would like to hear all of them!

I like the idea of torrents for free and CDN for a small fee. It works for everyone. It provides an incentive to those users who have considered donating, but have just put it off. It offers upgraded service(s) in the form of simplicity and convenience for those who have a couple of extra bucks in their paypal account. Base and DriverPacks will provide the same full functionality to those who do not want to or can not afford a small fee. They will have to download manually but that is not terrible and most people won't mind a bit.  If they don't feel like manually downloading or useing torrents then they can donate for the upgrade. I think it's a win / win idea.

parseing a hwids.txt is not hard...
generating one (that is half way accurate) is a real bear, we have done several for the testing team. unfortunatly manufactuers and oems do not stick to any set of standards and the contents of infs vary widely and wildly.

No... third party people would not be able to cheat the downloads... username and password would be required - and logs would be verified _ IE simultainius downloads form japan and USA would auto-cancel the account.

The DriverPacks Finisher is used for the main DriverPacks... if you are not useing any then it is optional... Sound, Video / graphics, LAN and other main packs require it... also if you do not run DriverPacks Finisher the driverpacks are not removed and the DriverPacks related files are not cleaned up.

If you are only adding Mass storage textmode (the F6 drivers) then that line is not added...
If that line is added by DriverPacks BASE then it is needed, if it weren't needed it would not have been added.

DriverPacks Finisher has nothing to do with licensing, it is a DriverPacks file that "finishes" installing your drivers and cleans up after the install.

Since you are not redistributing the DriverPacks and DriverPacks BASE (think 'mirror' of our downloads) you are not "redistributing" our software wink.

HOWEVER...

Since it is VERY illegal to redistrubute Windows Operating Systems (Per the Microsoft EULA)
I am CERTAIN that you would not even consider, let alone ask us questions about, redistributing a slipstreamed set of drivers with an OS.
That is absolutely a licence violation, Microsofts not ours.

Welcome to DriverPacks Somebody,

If I were you I would have started a new thread for this. this one is quite old and your post is on the 5th page. Let's start new please.
Thanks it looks awesome, and very well detailed.

Hope we see you around sir

Jeff

Good details and lots of helpful info Romeo... Well done big_smile.

Welcome to DriverPacks
have a great day!

No, or it would have stated that. big_smile

Linux and Mac, LOL.

It supports NT5 platforms... period.

However please see this post regarding the SAD feature of BASE.
http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=4844
There is one way to manually use SAD to update a machine with the NT6 packs (NT6 = Vista / Win7)

bad burn?

http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=1262

use search... Read the FAQs

Use DriverPacks BASE to create a SAD source, selecting M1 as the method and selecting only the CPU pack (since it's the smallest).

After BASE creates your folder structure (IE C:\DriverPacks.net\) with all the files in place simply extract all the remaining packs into that folder.

IE extract the packs to your "C:\DriverPacks.net\" folder.

Pretty simple really. big_smile

Great question... and not the first time it has been asked... moved to FAQ forum

Have an Awesome day and welcome to DriverPacks.

Jeff

PS this method will also work with our Vista / Win7 packs for use with NT6 platforms

I agree...
It's a good idea and easy to do.

I see no downside to this and it will work for any "create local source" installs.

Well done Nick

Welcome to DriverPacks and have an awesome day.

The speed of the CDN was always impressive in our experience? I am aware of no reports of slow downloads. I am aware of issues with incomplete downloads. If you were having slow downloads I wish that you had reported it. I have never been able to achieve the speed on any torrent (ever) that I get from the CDN.

In our (the teams) experience the CDN would max out any download bandwith. Those of us with the the high bandwidth connections have always gotten our full 30 Mbs download speeds. I don't know what you think is impressive but to me maxing out a 30 Megabit a second connection is pretty impressive. Over 4 megabytes a second is faster than a cheap IDE HDD. I'm sorry that I can't agree with you, but in my book that is impressive. Again, if you were having speed issues I wish that you had reported it. Perhaps our old provider had no server clusters in your country OR perhaps it was an issue that could have been addressed... if it were reported.

I think the idea would be that BASE would authenticate for the user. The username and password would only have to be entered once into the GUI. I would probably encrypt the login info on the local machine in such a way that it would always be available / cached on that machine. It would also be simple enough to have a cached login for the site downloads too, since that feature already exists for the main team members.

The 3rd party DriverPack will be available from the GUI in the future... However it is not likely that it will ever be a feature of DriverPacks BASE, which was not designed in such a way as to easily allow new main packs to be added. It will VERY likely be a feature of the new app we will develop for NT6 platforms.

did you wait for the PC to finish the installation and reboot?

That is the point of not clicking... nothing is supposed to happen...  big_smile

The installation proceeds normally - the dialog box does not halt the install -
The installation proceeds with no feedback to the user, just as it normally would.

I agree... however it would need to be a bit more adaptive than that... most people do not have a static IP. So the IP would have to be reverse DNS lookup to verify ISP and Region. I'm sure Wim could put a server side module in place to prevent cheating. It would be a simple matter to bust an account holder who was downloading from the USA and Russia within the same hour and cancel their login / account big_smile.

This is all good stuff... The main idea that keeps repeating is apparently tiered service.

Let's keep the ideas flowing

Free Torrents and paid CDN seems like a choice that would be agreeable to all.

Torrents would be a manual process requiring a third party app... that would certainly encourage people to pay a nuisance fee to get the downloads directly and automatically from DriverPacks BASE. Simple and effective, and still allows our app to be free to anyone.

Further the packs can be automatically verified with MD5 hash checks against the server for all packs found in the DriverPacks BASE folder. This would prevent any issues of corruption from the Torrented downloads. Seems easy to do and effective for both paid and non paid users.

Thank you for reporting!

It's a good idea to report language / translation requests at the bugtracker. that way i can assign it to the correct translator (and they will receive an email so they can fix it).

Please check our tutorial .. all of your questions are answered there. Link in my signature big_smile.

Carey Holzman made the video(s), not me. Yes they are very very helpful... Thanks again Carey!

Any settings you like are the correct settings for nLite... you can also use RVM Integrator or HFSlip
Never make changes with nLite (or by any other means) after you add DriverPacks.
Yes you can leave nLite open (be sure you select make ISO as a "task selection"). Proceed through all your customizations, just make sure you don't hit the "Make ISO" button on the "bootable ISO" page. Run DriverPacks BASE. After DriverPacks is done then return to nLIte hit the make ISO button and then next and finish.

Have a great day and welcome to DriverPacks.

because every file read or written is virus scanned...

what video?

Thanks Mark,

To pay out of pocket for the CDN at our current usage levels... http://simplecdn.com/pricing

we had
Yesterdays Data Trans: 498.72 GB
Last Week  Data Trans: 3.36 TB
Last Week Total Requests: 1,059,509

and with our current setup with all the old packs available on the server about 16gig of storage.

according to the the price chart 500~1000 dollars more a month would be needed...
The donations we get now don't even cover Wim for his out of pocket that he pays for this site/forum.

Even with torrents the same issue arises... many will leach and few will seed and we still need to pay for a primary server. The torrent option is just a variation on the same two primary options we have always depended on, sponsors or donors. Since those two seem to be non-options, sadly that only leaves the other choice we have been trying to dodge for years... charging for our service(s) in some fashion. The reality of it is the fee can be ridiculously small. since we have a million downloads a week and ten packs that represents 100,000 users a week. The fee could be a dollar a year per person (heck, it could be a measly ten cents)... It's almost a joke that we should have to make donating a dollar mandatory but obviously the honor system won't ever work. It's truly a very sad day for DriverPacks.
