Did you use KTD on a lot of drivers?

On a slow HDD (and notebook drivers aren't really known for their great performance) this can indeed take a while then.

So, you could do an MD5 now, eh?

I will add your pack to the list.
Please supply the missing info if you can!

Alright, the pack has been updated.
There were a lot of compressed SYS (SY_) files in the P\1\ and P\2\ dirs so no wonder it did not install properly.
Since the driver you supplied contain support for both models, I removed them and replaced with only one dir.

Tell me whether this works!

MD5: F535F84F675800CC576FB1B62C0373B4

I added your pack to the big sticky.
Please always also post updates in that very thread so the first post of it can be updated accordingly.

Also, always post the MD5 sum whenever you release something!
So far, I will add it myself based on what I have downloaded hoping it did not get corrupted, but the ideal solution is if the checksum is supplied by the creator.

This is an issue that has been reported before, but that was no fix AFAIK.

Generally, this could be tracked down to using a non-English copy of XP with the DriverPacks.
However, this does not mean it will occur with EVERY non-Eng copy... (it hasn't appeared for me in quite a while).

I guess it has to do with different encoding of the winnt.SIF (ANSI/Unicode).

Is that because of your internet connection?  Or your FTP software?

I don't know.
Maybe it works in the meantime, I haven't checked in a while.
I could be due to the ISP, I had troubles with this site before (and ONLY this one out of millions on the web...), but it works now.

As for software, I've tried both Windows Explorer (works fine for 3rd party DriverPack!) as well as CuteFTP (which is a pretty common and free one).

I see.  So the prompt goes away, but if you're holding F6 or if you press it at the right time it will still work so you can load RAID drivers.

No, you won't even have to press anything at all.
Just make sure the floppy is in the drive, and it will be picked upautomatically (could be a problem if you are installing from floppies but I seriously doubt anyone is - although you can request a floppy edition of XP at MS!).

In any case, if you are already using the DriverPacks there simply should not be any need for this procedure at all!
If a driver is missing in DPMS, your best solution is to simply request it to have it added.
No more FDDs, no more worries, and it serves us all to have the driver in!

Then does that mean that DriverPacks doesn't do RAID drivers?  So if we do have RAID devices and we make our own pack for RAID drivers and stick it in the 3rd party for integration you won't need to worry about F6 at all?  Or would there have to be a special text mode for that?

No, not at all!
Of course it does RAIDs, that is the point of TM, to install drivers for these controllers.
Apart from SATA, what other need would there be for TM?

Are you sure about the filename?

I have never heared of this one and a quick search also does not reveal any results on my HDD.

There is, however, a file called svchost.exe, however, that is an internal Windows component and not related to the DriverPacks.

DPs_BASE.log is in your DriverPacks directory (from where you run BASE) and DPsFnshr.log is in %Systemroot%.

I do think you know how to run a Windows file search, though, right...?

dsfcom wrote:

Overflow - I'll post my HWIDs as requested.

If you haven't noticed already, you can find it in our sigs wink
It's also part of the BASE, anyhow, so you can take it from there as well.

Mainly I would like to test Helmi's test driverpack but I don't know how to use it.

Err, which one?
Don't remember having created one lately neutral

I use method 1 for others Drivers and that's work fine in the pase, but my friend tell me that i must use method 2 for sata driver or setup can't detect HDD (i have this probleme with fujitsu siemens,i can instak XP home from his original CD and i can't installe XP pro with my CD)

As I told you, this has nothing to do with either M1 or M2.
You still haven't said why you prever M1, though (not that it matters).

if i USE method1 and enable text mode, all things will work fine ??

Yes, you will need to enable Text Mode to make HDD detection work, just as I wrote above.
Once again, for this, it does not matter whether you use Method 1 or Method 2.

Have you slipstreamed an Update Pack, such as RyanVM?
Or, if not, have you manually added the HDA Hotfix (KB888111) by chance?
Please also post DPs_BASE.log and DPsFnshr.log!

I assume "DD" means in fact HDD.
M1 or M2 is irrelevant for this; however, you will need to enable Text Mode, else it will fail.

Check out the tutorial in my sig for further reference.

Anyway, M2 is actually the superior method, is there any specific reason you want to use M1?

mr_smartepants wrote:

Argh!  I'm really beginning to hate HDAudio!

Yes, save the nice audio capabilities (24bit/96kHz recording/playback), it doesn't really offer anything over AC'97 (7.1 works with that, too).
The predecessor also behaves much nicer in terms of easy installability and driver support (no KB888111 and all that stuff *sigh*).

The only reason we're seeing it pushed so much nowadays is because of the "better" copy protection by alowing secured (as in non-recordable) audio stream playback.

The customer, once again, does not profit from this, but the big media companies do!

That same device ID is listed as x1700, not x2500.  ATI's driver download page doesn't even list an x2500.

That's because X2500 is not an official ATi designation.
They only have 2400 and 2600 with nothing inbetween.
This is typical for OEMs to relabel the cards with a similar name to the current manufacturer's line suggesting a performance that it ususally doesn't give.

My bet is that it probabaly is an X1700 with the same features including core/mem clock as well as shaders.
I'd say go ahead and keep the entry for the X1700 and let's see how that will work for this "X2500".

Both links updated with the recent version on the FTP (looks like someone renewed these without updating the links or giving note about it).
MD5 sums updated as well as compressed file size.

Better requested once too much than not at all, IMO wink

Anyway, yes, you better use your resources to make us aware of less prominent driver updates if you come across them tongue

moataz wrote:

Can we see this in the next pack?

As there's no one dedicated to these packs, that entirely depends on volunteers.

I'm certainly willing to handle this - as I did in the past - if I get to it.

However, let me say that these 3rd party DriverPack live from member input, and that means you!
Just update the pack yourself, you can find a link to the tutorial in my sig.
Of course, if you do not dare to do this, that's fine.
A broken pack serves no one.

Also, if you do not have at least 1GB of RAM, 7-Zip will not let you use high compression settings which would unnecessarily blow the pack up.

In any case, there isn't much secret involved in creating the packs.
Since these do not feature any exceptions, you do not have to tinker with the INI file and all that needs to be done is fully extracting the driver files, stripping off any unneeded (as in not referenced in the INF) files and repacking. smile

Oh, and please don't forget about updating the changelog, either wink

Ah, whatever, I think I can give this a try tomorrow morning...

As I wrote in the other thread, my personal experience with the 7.7s on two different machines was far from bad.
While the article does not show any performance gains (which is fine, IMO, you don't need a gain with every release), I cannot share their negativity about the driver set.

I have experienced much worse in the past.
A reason why I stuck to the 5.13 (yes, one of the rare occasions where ATi released more than a dozen a year) for quite a long time, I think until 6.6 or so.

Also, it's not only about game performance, I'm sure you will all agree.

You also have to take a look at the changelog:

¤Call of Duty 2: Setting the in-game resolution to 640x480 no longer results in visual static and interrupted audio during cinematic and within the menus. Further details can be found in topic number 737-28468
¤Google Earth: The fog is displayed in the image no longer has a checkered effect. Further details can be found in topic number 737-28467
¤Neverwinter Nights: Shadows of Undrentide no longer exhibits missing textures on characters under some circumstances on some hardware configurations. Further details can be found in topic number 737-28471

¤Connecting an HDTV using the Component Video connector no longer results in a double image being noticed when pressing the ALT+Enter keys. Further details can be found in topic number 737-28473
¤Jittering is no longer noticed in cinepak video playback when using the Windows Media Player and having the desktop resolution set to 1280x1024 75Hz or higher. Further details can be found in topic number 737-28474

For any non-hardcore gamer (and that's what I consider the majority of the DriverPacks as - pure gamers perfer "modded" drivers anyway, or so I heared...), these fixes are probabaly more important than a 3% gain in some game.

Ususally, XP driver should work.
2003 really is a XP64 kernel in 32bit mode so the difference is probabaly even less than from 2000 to XP (in which case many drivers are also cross-compatible).

Just give it a try and see if they work.

You should not use Vista drivers, at least not without doing a backup first.
Vista's driver architechture is quite different and while XP drivers for some less critical (eg. not kernel) drivers may work, I doubt the opposite is true, too...

Ok, I gave it a quick shot yesterday only DL the stuff because I didn't have time for more.

Very nice collection of apps, looks really useful.
DL speeds were quite fast, too, so that's a plus.

However, I noticed that (apparently?) all files are being DLed piece by piece instead of 7zipping them into one archive (per app, maybe) and sending that one over.
That should be even faster (esp. on slow connections, I have 6mbit so I don't really mind) and also save some bandwidth.

I will definately check this out further, once I get to it.
I have to finish (and troubleshoot...) my current UWXPCD first before I can start a different project, albeit with the same aim wink
