Made it nigh impossible to have any machine running during the day (which also postponed tests).

Yes, it does matter and you should use nLite first, THEN the DriverPacks!
(and afterwards, compile the ISO and don't mess around with anything else )

First of all, a more descriptive thread title is really welcome.
You make it sound as if there's a bomb alert...
Secondly, have you even tried whether that driver is included in the DriverPacks already?
Most folks seem to forget that and just assume it may not be in...
Thirdly, should you happen to find out where missing this driver and you could spot in on the website, why don't you just open a new [REQ] thread in the appropriate forum (say, Sound) where you post the link to the driver DL?
That's how we usually do it and this method works quite fine.
Fourthly, double-check you aren't missing KB888111 if you aren't on XP SP3 already!

First of, it's Beta 1, at least from what I can see (as coincedence has it, I just DL'ed it yesterday but it would not install on my test machine - maybe has to do with the fact that IE7 got slipstreamed instead of installed on top of IE6 and hence cannot be removed?).

Second, well, Eric, no, we shouldn't be responsible generally.
However, this is for all site owners that implemented some sort of non-official (according to W3C at least) fixes for IE6 and below.
IE8 will do away with the legacy mode that will render the pages like <=IE6 rather than the W3C standard and those and only those pages will be messed up since.
So, what MS is telling us is do away with your previous non-standrad workarounds to make your pages look fine on our browsers and finally stick to the standards

You must, however, make sure that the printer(s) is/are connected during installation, when the drivers are being installed.
ONLY drivers for devices that are connected will get installed!
You cannot connect the device later for it will not have any drivers installed then.
ONLY solution to this is to ENABLE KTD!
That will Keep The Drivers (hence the name) and provide them for Windows when it finds new hardware!
Well then, at least, if you're going to buy, you'll get the best bang for the buck at least.
If it wouldn't mean to strip out all those five disks each time I could run more tests on my main machine.

Surely, you must have downloaded the ones appropriate for the models.
Exctract them either using 7Zip or maybe IZArc and manually install from there.
I'm thinking your problem may have to do with the fact that during installation, not all printers are connected to your system...
You mention eight different models, I find it a bit hard to believe they are all connected to the same system (or is it a server?).
Your error may lay there.

Yeah, I wish I had done this already, the system starts to mock up even more now.
Still tickering with my U³XPDVD image - when I'm going to reinstall it should be as perfect as it can be as this is my main machine.
Although that card is AGP; I cannot fit in into my test be because that's only AGP 2x/4x and the card is 8x 
Might be ripping out all the other HDDs with my sensitive data and popping in a spare one just to test install though.
I'm going to compile a new image today, so as soon as you may be able to include the new CATs, I hope I'll be able to test (unless you want me to test with the old ones first so you can decide on kicking out HDMI support - not that I am too fond of the idea, but I am not using it ATM and if there's no other way, it has to be)
Sounds more than fair enough.
Dunno about the HD3400 series but the HD3800 (and subsequently the HD4800) definately kick ass and are very well worth their quite low price!
Plus, the fact that I could pick up an AGP card made them a no-brainer to me!

That would depend on reproducability, I guess.
I, for one, have been able to successfully install all of the handful installations I tried with 8.06 (maybe ten or so).
After reboot, all files were gone as they are supposed to be.
Therefore, yours is a bug that does not occur every time, hence it's hard to track.
Could even not be BASE-related, who knows.

Also, does manually installing the exact driver you put in your 3rd party DriverPack work?
That means, going the right-click INF route.
Some printers will need a USB interface driver to work properly.
I noticed this highly depends on the language of the file whether it works automatically or not...

I've been using it for since it was released with no problems that I could track to the BASE.
I think, this complies with the other tester's experiences.

VirtualBox is quite nice, I like it much better than VMWare, however it will sometimes produce some unexplainable BSODs for me (freshly installed OS even).
Going back to VPC using the same source, everything works fine.
Also, VB is yet missing Virtualization support for the CPU (the box is there but you cannot check it).
VPC does this already.

Suppose you have a 7z file, you calculate its hash, then write that hash as txtfile (or whatever, with standardised naming) and include the hash in the new 7zip, with a new extention (BTX), so that the DriverPacks BASE has to unpack hash and real DP, check hash txt against file hash..
No, that's not what I meant.
The TXT is not supposed to be included in the 7z file - that one is not to be altered at all (that would defy the point of calculating a hash that is supposed to verify the file is unaltered...)
I was thinking more along a list in the TXT that goes like this
NAME_of_DP Hash of that DP
Name_of_next_DP Hash of next DP
Anyway, whatever, just a little brain quirk, nothing more.
Not even considering whether it's doable...

Well, that's up to the bruning program to test/verify (file on disc=file on HDD).
Nero, for instance, has such an option and I make regular use of it for reasons already known.
Basically, each app in the process has to test for its own area of competence - in an ideal world, at least
