He delights in such things, you can find his work around the web. I met him over at the UBCD4Win forum i think he frequented 911 too big_smile. He does have style. big_smile

2k in VM does seem to be a great choice. (see the help is still flowing)

I will certainly answer questions and offer any insight i may have, but i am not going to invest serious resources.

If i did have time for a project the first would be updating the finisher for NT6.

Please test and report, we may help each other and a lurker or two as we go. Move mountains... not so much.

Jeff

PS we take great time and invest much thought while collaborating on what we can and cannot provide support for and how we can provide that support. You referred to at least one of those well thought out (by the team) decisions as "stupid'. (implied... you can do better). That is not only giving the messenger (Mr_smartepants) but also the entire team who made that decision "the bird". IMHO

- you are welcome to come onboard and help with development and updates, at which point you will have the opportunity to have your opinion heard. If you are not willing to contribute time or money then you are simply being a troll. (sorry i have been trying not to respond to your harshness, with harshness).

It's real easy to stand on the sidelines and yell at the players on the field, but unless you are one of the players on the field... you need to just sit back and enjoy the game and let the coaches run the plays.

nobody likes a backseat driver, especially one with no license.

Note: When you want some help... calling the person you want help from stupid is not a good opening move.
to be clear, while you did not call him stupid directly you did call his (our) decision stupid.

Extrapolate... stupid decisions are made by stupid people,
a group of smart people usually don't make stupid mistakes.
YES you called him and us stupid, whether you realize(d) it or not

I hope that helps to explain our collective reaction.

A smart Poster would have stated "Why is this OS no longer supported?"
People never take offense to a good question. big_smile
Either you are not smart or you already knew the answer...
assuming you are smart and already knew the answer...
you simply were throwing a temper tantrum to try to get your way?

I know you realize all this because the next day you say that
"not much else caaan really be done for 2000 at this point anyway"
You came to the same decision yourself after you slept on it big_smile tongue !

thirty posts and three team members involved i can't believe you would act as if we shut the door in your face.

I have to agree that you reacted harshly

i think  you over read what he meant. He simply is suggesting that adding anything for 2000 at this point is not going to bring about a desirable result. He was NOT suggesting that we remove any existing support for it. the 2k drivers have been working fine for a decade, no reason to fix it if it ain't broke big_smile.

as i stated we will be glad to assist within the confines of the existing program and packs. We have no magic wands. we do have some experience and a couple hours to invest. Just as you have invested yours. Perhaps we have some success.

Help us to help you  (I miss Jaak)

Jeff

@TechD Yes the ram for loading drivers is severely limited in 2k it grows with each OS version. that is why we have the disable flag to prevent memory saturation. in this way one can simply edit the txtsetup.sif file and deledte a few semicolons and add a few without re-slipstreaming the drivers. If you get the ntf.sys error to many drivers are enabled. At least Wim made it easy to change and retest. couple of semi colons in a text editor and burn and test. Core files may be missing to get SATA to spark (a hotfix / KB that was never written). as an alternate perhaps not SATA mode will work just fine big_smile.

2000 is dead, XP is at deaths doorstep. I don't think it is important to go to extraordinary measures for support.

We will certainly try to help within the existing structure of the DriverPacks, as always.

thanks for testing and reporting it makes our project better for everyone.

Nice job, again, TechDud

UBCD4Win / BartPE is a legitimate way of doing the same thing...

i hope that did not hurt too bad.

we need the HWID's in order to help properly.

your driver is probably in the pack but disabled. the HWID would tell us.

HWID tool linked in my signature

agreed.

windows should roll out LAN and Mass Storage drivers with updates, and the rest should be obtained during setup from the web. In todays web based world there is no reason for a third party to have to contribute. Until MS catches up with the web we are still here! big_smile

Jeff

there are many

driver solution
driver grabber
are two off the top of my head

there are several posted in the software forum? (did you even try to look?)
http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewforum.php?id=16

http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=4927

search for others using variations of the words "backup" "drivers"  big_smile

there is no license...

Honor system is in play

i doubt anyone would bundle it, the usage is specific to very few people with advanced knowledge in a very specific field.

updating the packs is no simple matter...
you cant just drop in a new set of files.

If you could then nobody would have ever shown up here,
they simply would toss all their drivers in a zip file themselves.

It's a lot of hard work and testing and modifying and retesting.
most of the posts on this board are in the forums for release and testing of beta packs and they are hidden from public view. it has taken hundreds if not thousands of hours to get them to work they way they do. I am impressed that you gave it a go, so don't sweat it if your attempt was not what you expected. Mr_Smartepants has been doing the packs for years and still has a glitch here and there big_smile.

Cheers m8

over two thousand downloads on that script cdob... very impressive.

type 16 and 5 make me hungry

i have installed lots of type 5... never seen a 16?

in your situation i would install 3rd party DriverPack with SAD... that should give the most coverage with the least issues

Thanks Romeo

it is not mentioned here because it is not DriverPacks related.

this is off topic and not supported by us. goto MSFN.org for these type issues.

DriverPacks support only on this forum.

BASE will not add any Service Packs that your source is not eligible for.
They were probably not added because your source did not qualify for them.
Same answer here as in your other post.

Where is your DPs_BASE.log???

If you do not supply Read BEFORE you post.. We do not supply support.

if your next post is not in compliance i will trash this topic. no more Mr nice guy.
I WILL NOT ask you again. I will order all mods to delete any topic you post that fails to comply.

I would gladly provide it to you if i had it... it was written and supplied to us by a third party. (Pyron i belive)

Try it with an unaltered source, does the issue disappear?
re-add your changes one at a time until the issue reappears.
you must be deleting a file that is a dependency, or otherwise damaging the functionality.

still waiting on Read BEFORE you post. I will lock this thread if you do not comply with  Read BEFORE you post. #6
If i can duplicate your issue i can solve it... it's that simple

I have been very patient with trying to help you. You have done everything but flip me off for my efforts.
I'm getting tired of it. Help us to help you, or be gone.

Hello cheche, long time no see. Great to see you old friend.

the question remains, millions of other users have no issues.

I did not say that the only possable cause was your source, I belived based on your input (what very little there is of it) your source seems most likely. It still does. It will remain so until further info (many times requested now) is provided.

What do you do differently than all others?

you have still failed to complete "Read BEFORE you post".

Comply or be labeled a troll.

PS you state your source works flawlessly... (you did NOT state it is original and unchanged)
if that is the case then why are you here?
You have done something that no one else does.

You do realize that they use our driverpacks for their app?

in our opinion it is easier to update only the packs you need instead of the entire set.

i saw a post were they were using the manufacturers evironment variable to show or hide folders to guide the proper driver install

seemed like it was a WIP by samlab  http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic. … 316#p51316

if it fails on multiple platforms then the issue must be your source.

you also failed to mention that previously, entirely my fault.

Windows XP minimum requirments.
Pentium 233-megahertz (MHz) processor or faster (300 MHz is recommended)
At least 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM (128 MB is recommended)

so your processor fails minimum requirements and your ram is at the bare minimum.
this machine is built for windows 95, please expect problems with windows NT5 OS's.

Devpath may be failing due to insufficient ram.

I am going to repeat myself, again... Try SAD big_smile.

the .INS tag files simply tell the finisher which driver install you prefer to run.
ATI or Nvidia and the old or new version.
the tag files are simply dummy files we create to pass your selection during install to the finisher
Nvidia and ATI supply the drivers, we just run them based on your selection and the card found.
these tag files are found in the root of the drive. not a line in an INF file.
we don't do anything to make those icons.
Like i said before those icons are installed by the driver. Install the driver, and there they are...

Since you failed to provide the requested info

I asked you twice - and you agreed to provide it without our asking when you signed up
- "Read BEFORE you post"
how many of the seven listed items have you checked off as done?
Half of one out of seven I think (half of number 5) that is about 7% of what we require.

If you don't provide requested info then i (we) can't help.
You gave me 7% of the info i need to help and i gave you 10% of your answer
here we are 12 posts later still waiting on info that should have been in your first post.

i could have given you 90 percent of the answer on my first post if you would have done as requested.

Windows 95 Installation Requirements
Personal computer with a 386DX or higher processor (486 recommended)
4 megabytes (MB) of memory (8 MB recommended)

You quoted the minumum requirments for windows 95... LOL
But you're not installing win 95 R U? ROFL
and I have to agree this machine would ROCK windows 95, try that and see how it works tongue
- or did you think you were installing win 95???

can you remove a screw with a claw hammer?  Sure.
Is it a good idea.  No.

PSS JUST TO KEEP HAMMERING AWAY AT THIS. WHAT VIDEO CARD IS INSTALLED?
(HAD YOU PROVIDED THE SECOND HALF OF #5 IN READ BEFORE YOU POST I WOULD KNOW THIS ANSWER ALREADY. (i refer to the HWID's in case you are unsure.) sad.  THIS IS STARTING TO GET ANNOYING. It clearly says in red Always Required

in your next post number 1 through 7 and then tell us if you have provided that info or completed the task at the time of your FIRST post. All items that you must indicate as negative (which is all seven), Please now provide the missing info or indicate you have now completed the item. (this includes the title of your thread)

the taskbar icons are part of the driver... a properly installed driver accomplishes this. It is not something we or BASE does.

really... you are connecting this to a server, is the server also a dinosaur? I understand as well as anyone not having the money to buy new PC's but people throw away far better equipment than this wink. I do have a P1 class system in my inventory, and a 486, but i don't try to run NT5 OS's on them big_smile.

How much ram is in this machine?
SAD / DP_Install_Tool.cmd you should be able to install LAN drivers (*all drivers really) after the install.
