Topic: [SOLVED] Dell Inspiron 6000D: problem with Mobility X300 installation

i couldn't find this in the search.

i was wondering if your driver packs included modified versions of the Catalyst drivers for Laptops using the ATI Raedeon Mobility cards.  when you get the current drivers from ATI, the install process fails, stating it couldnt find a graphics card compatible with the driver set.....however, someone created a modifier script program that alters the driver package somehow and allows the newest catalyst drivers on my Dell Inspiron 6000D.

I'm hoping to create 2 separate slipstream install discs...one for the dell (since it uses stupid SLI activation on MCE2005), and one for the rest of my non dell PCs, but both with all the possible drivers i can put on them.

On a side note, what is the likelyhood of getting a driverpack for TV Tuner Cards?

thanx for the hard work, this looks amazing

Re: [SOLVED] Dell Inspiron 6000D: problem with Mobility X300 installation

I think you do a better search next time wink

Re: [SOLVED] Dell Inspiron 6000D: problem with Mobility X300 installation

perhaps i should.  could you suggest terms by which you found it?  i had tried "dell" "mobility" "x300" and none came up there....that was the most generic thing i could come up with without being overly simplified.

EDIT:

found one post that mentions MODTOOL, but it does not say if the modified drivers are included in the driver pack.  i have found nothing relating to my card directly, or anything related to Dell, within the forums.  i am at a loss.  can someone simply tell me if the modified drivers are in the pack or not?

Hi
can you get the modifier script, and post it?

The answer was 42?

probably not....but here is a link

Re: [SOLVED] Dell Inspiron 6000D: problem with Mobility X300 installation

Well, for the record, the ATI Radeon Mobility X300 used in the Dell Inspiron 6000D is compatible with the newest catalyst drivers ONLY if that tool is used on the catalyst set PRIOR to installing them (run the catalyst install file once, get denied, run the patcher, run the catalyst set again)

i have NO IDEA what it changes...all i know is that if i want to slipstream a driver for my video card, i have to use that tool on them first.

i don't suppose anyone wants to look into what gets changed and possibly see if it is worth adding in?  i have a feeling that all it does is add more models to the compatibility list...and if that is the case, running the tool once on the driver set prior to adding it in to the driverpack will allow us lappy users to get updated drivers also.

thanx much!

Re: [SOLVED] Dell Inspiron 6000D: problem with Mobility X300 installation

I am working on my own catalyst driverpack modded for mobility use.  The ATI website here lists graphics chipsets and vendors supported by the official catalyst suite.  If your vendor and chipset is not listed (both listings are required) then the official catalyst suite won't install without modification.

The DH modtool modifies several INF files that WILL BREAK the catalyst suite for anything other than a mobility chipset.  Because of that, it's highly unlikely that Bâshrat the Sneaky and the crew will include modded files in the main Graphics_A driverpack.
There are limitations with building a 3rd party driverpack because the DPBase won't let you set the option for the CCC in a 3rd party driverpack.  I'm working my pack based on modifying Bashrat's Graphics_A pack for my own use.  If I get it working properly, I may upload it to Rapidshare or another site (with Bâshrat the Sneaky approval of course).

There are several other files you need to modify for proper widescreen display.  If I can find the online tutorial, I'll post it later.
For widescreen support, you have to manually edit two INF files in 2KXP_INF folder (CX_*****.INF, I can't remember offhand).

If I get this working right, I may post a tutorial since the one I found a year ago is very hard to find (can't find it now).

Re: [SOLVED] Dell Inspiron 6000D: problem with Mobility X300 installation

that's a good solution if you only need the disc on a mobility based system....but i am hoping to get a universal disc that runs on any system i toss it at.  lucky for me, i don't run anything else ATI except the lappy.....the trick is, will i be able to integrate these modded drivers with the normal driverpack a?

Yes, we do!
AFAIK, this tool from Patje is what Bâshrat the Sneaky used to make the DriverPack Graphics A compatible with mobile cards.

Anyway, A Murder of Crows, have you already tried installing on your machine using DriverPack Graphics A or are you just asking in case of?

Because, ususally, the preferred method is to try it out first, then, when problems arise, come in here and complain/ask for help wink

Time for you te read more in the testing part of the forum Helmi, i wrote a piece about this there wink

Will do!

I try to stick around and read as much as possible (mind you, I will also have to moderte one thread or another wink), but sometimes, things may slip past me hmm

Re: [SOLVED] Dell Inspiron 6000D: problem with Mobility X300 installation

well, keep me posted i guess.  i haven't tried the pack yet because i just reinstalled windows on the lappy and have it running stable.  when i've gotten everything set up as perfect as i can, i'll do a ghost of the drive, install a virtualpc, and see what happens.  but, since i was installing windows on both my systems at the moment, and ran into this exact video driver issue, i figured i'd ask

Re: [SOLVED] Dell Inspiron 6000D: problem with Mobility X300 installation

Just as a sinde note:
You cannot test this specific issue in VPC since it does not emulate your actual hardware.
Instead, it will use generic ones for which drivers are provided through the VPC AddOns!

In fact we DO. Check D\G\A\1 for the "mobility.inf" file. By using an extra .inf file, we don't break the WHQL signing on the original driver files!

@all:
The TS said it was a X300 Mobile. Currently these X300 Mobiles are supported by the mobility.inf file:

"ATI MOBILITY RADEON X300" = ati2mtag_M22, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5460
"ATI MOBILITY RADEON X300 " = ati2mtag_M24, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_3152

;--- on ASUS notebooks ---
"ATI MOBILITY RADEON X300 (ASUS)" = ati2mtag_M22, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5460&SUBSYS_19521043

;--- on HP ZD 8000 notebook (zorro1) ---
"ATI MOBILITY RADEON X300 (HP ZD 8000)" = ati2mtag_M22, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5460&SUBSYS_3082103C

Could the TS please post his HWID? Then all we have to do is add his HWID to this list and we're done smile TS, check my sig for a tool to get your HWIDs. Or simply post your DPsFnshr.log file.

Re: [SOLVED] Dell Inspiron 6000D: problem with Mobility X300 installation

on a side note, this should work for any dell inspiron 6000 that uses the x300 cards, not just the 6000D series....i'm not sure how many Inspiron 6000 system models were made, though...i only ran into the 6000 and the 6000D.

now, the changes you are mentioning in the above post, will that affect the pack in a significant way?  should i wait to d/l for a bit?

thank you all again

You could make the changes yourself. Just extract DP Graphics A, make the changes and recompress it using 7-zip.

Re: [SOLVED] Dell Inspiron 6000D: problem with Mobility X300 installation

I really appreciate the work you folks have put into this issue.

I too have the Inspiron 6000 with the Mobility X300 graphics card, and was unpleasantly surprised that the ATI drivers and Dell do not peacefully co-exist.  I guess Dell still has a difficult time shedding its' proprietary inclinations....

Anyway, I found this thread and your website through a Google search and although I'm a fairly quick study, I admit to puzzlement as to where to begin to *crack* the ATI drivers so that they will install on the Dell laptop.

At the risk of being a PITA, might one of you post a walk-through of the steps, in layman's terms, of what must be done to accomplish this.

Most appreciated, and thanking you in advance.
