Topic: Lenovo T440P Support

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if you could help me. I'm trying to run UBCD4WIN on a new Lenovo T440P laptop but get the BSOD 0x0000007B error which I believe is related to it not being able to see the hard drive as the drivers are not available. I checked the Lenovo website and could only see drivers for windows 7 and there don't seem to be any drivers for windows XP (it's a solid state drive by the way).

I have tried the to slipstream the following drivers into my build:

*  (Intel Rapid Storage Technology) https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail … ldID=23496   (32 bit version)

* DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_1308271

Lenovo driver release notes are here: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc … im10ww.txt

Any help you could provide will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Lenovo T440P Support

Hello, and welcome to the DriverPacks forum.     smile

Note that the Intel RST driver you attempted to slipstream requires Windows Server 2008 minimum.  That is, it is not meant for NT5.
Please post your HWID for that controller.  The error you may have seen in that build may have been something like "iStor is corrupted".

Perhaps integrate a newer "nightly" build of DP_MS (Note that contrary to the first post in this topic the changelog in the pack is up-to-date.  Do read the "Known Issues" in the changelog.)  You should only require the main pack, and not the 3rd-party intelide-pciide packs linked in that reply.

Also, some brief info on how you created your build may be helpful ( incl. media/ROMdrive type).  Note that we only support integration via DP_BASE.  There are some wonderful tutorials around here &/or the main site.

We appreciate feedback.  Help us to help you and others too!

Re: Lenovo T440P Support

you may have to use a PE3 build to get there. NT5 drivers may not ever be available for some new hardware as we move forward.

We will certainly add them if available. Post your HWIDs using the tool in my signature.

Re: Lenovo T440P Support

OK I have updated to the latest DP Mass storage drivers as suggested by techdud. I will implement these into my UBCD4WIN build and provide the results. The HWID details of the Lenovo T440P are as follows:

Re: Lenovo T440P Support

I added code tags to your post to make the thread more readable. If you like, you can edit your post to see how that is done.

Looks like we need a driver for
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8C03&SUBSYS_220E17AA&REV_04
AKA
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8C03&CC_010601
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8C03&CC_0106

if we google  PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8C03&CC_0106

We find stuff, like links to MSFN.ORG. ( We like MSFN big_smile )

http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/107504- … try1057717

Looks like DriverPack MassStorage version 12.x may work???
Fernando also has a custom driver that may work.

Please report your results here and there, Thanks!
We would like to include a working driver if we can.

RST driver v11.2 is reported to work (half support) 8-Series chipset.

@teamsoutheast
Can you expand DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_1403071.7z
Edit the file DriverPack_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32.ini at section [I-9]
Add PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8C03&CC_0106 to line ms_1_hwids
And repack the .7z file

Thanks CDOB that worked a treat. The PE booted up fine but now cannot detect the network adapters. :-( I am trying the latest Nightly DP LAN pack. I will report back with my findings. Really appreciate all your help so far. It would have been a nightmare having to build the 12 laptops we ordered manually. :-)

Re: Lenovo T440P Support

Thanks for mass storage controller report.
That's another confirmation RST driver v11.2 works at Series 8.

teamsoutheast wrote:

As far as I know Network Adapter Drivers Version 18.3 are the latest for Windows XP.
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/detail … ldID=18717
They don't support Series 8 hardware.
Intel don't support this chipset, mass storage, network or USB3.0 at XP.

I don't know a working network driver.

Re: Lenovo T440P Support

Tried the latest nightly DP LAN Pack and that failed to detect the LAN adapter. The Nightly WLAN DP pack did however detect the WLAN adapter. I will try to integrate the network adapter as suggested above by CDOB and post my results. If it helps the release notes of the adapter I require are as follows:

Re: Lenovo T440P Support

Woahhhhh. Looks like there is no driver out there for this NIC Card on XP. Have you Gurus got any ideas?

Re: Lenovo T440P Support

NIC card is redundant... like ATM machine tongue

Yeah cdob and I both warned you that newer chipsets will be tough to support on NT5.

The link i presented above demonstrates how a user can force a driver to install for XP. that doesn't mean it will work, but it might. the example was for mass storage but the mechanics are the same. let us know.

and rebuild

cdob will correct me if that won't work tongue.

Re: Lenovo T440P Support

Try this pack --> http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic. … 508#p57508

There were 3 drivers and several HWID's missing, including an oldie for one HWID (PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1209   ; 82551ER & 82559ER D101ER (Basic) labeled as "Intel(R) 8255xER PCI Adapter").  The collection is in ..\I\e

Am not certain how best for teamsoutheast to proceed.  Should the driver be removed from x:\PEBuilder\drivers\Net\-HereIsGood- first?

Do disable USB 3.0 or somehow select "legacy" (or the like) in BIOS/uEFI, it is not supported on NT5 (xp).  Avoid using those ports, too.
(edit May10:)  You might not need avoid using those ports.

Windows XP SP3 (incl. TabletPC & MCE - except Embedded) Extended Support by MS ended April 2014 (network connection ill-advised).

Without having visited that MSFN link you supplied yet, any driver greater than the official RST 11.2 has yielded me "file corrupted" fatal stops in pre-partitioning textmode yet i have not tried every revision nor any of the 13.x branch.  Every one of the executables have been STORPORT based, and therefore should not work on anything less than Server 2003.  For Server2003, an integrated WindowsUpdate or two may enable function yet i am skeptical.  It never hurts to ask though.

Actually, that should have already been included there.  DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_1404011 has the proper differentiation in the .Ini to support XP & 2003.

Also, according to ChiefZeke, those 18.3 drivers were trouble-matic.   See http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=6675

I thank you, all of you!

one or the other.

if it's in the pack then we DON'T want it in the "drivers" folder.

This offers another option. Exploring the limits

2003 Storport 5.2.3790.4163 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943295 works at XP SP3 files.
Copy and paste the file storport.sys to BartPE XP system32\drivers

BartPE loads the driver iaStorA.sys Version: 3.8.0.1111
And displays the hard disk connected to PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2929&CC_0106
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail … rodId=3449
This driver refers to Windows 2003.

Contrary Version: 12.9.0.1001
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail … ldID=23496
This driver refers to Windows Server 2008 and up.
BartPE complains iaStorA.sys as corrupt.
It's not compatible to 2003 storport.sys or another reason.

I don't like to go this way. As long as there are XP compatible drivers, use XP drivers.
If there are 2003 drivers only, this could work in future.

Re: Lenovo T440P Support

Noting that 2003 Storport v5.2.3790.4485 is available for Server 2003 SP2 here --> http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=957910
  For SP1, there is http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=943545
Curious that update_SP2QFE.inf includes the line "SP_TITLE_XP  = "Hotfix for Windows XP (KB957910)""

Indeed.  That was a cool exploration of limits though!

if we google  PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8C03&CC_0106

We find stuff, like links to MSFN.ORG. ( We like MSFN big_smile )

Looks like DriverPack MassStorage version 12.x may work???
Fernando also has a custom driver that may work.

Dear Jeff
Thanks a lot for the pointer to the drivers from Fernando. The Lenovo ThinkPad E540 I'm installing has the Storage controller you mention: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8C03&CC_0106

I tried a lot of things before getting with your post. Finally what worked for me was downloading the universal driver from fernando:
Universal 32bit Intel RST AHCI & RAID driver v11.2.0.1006 mod by Fernando

and copying it to: "drivers\SCSIAdapter\iastor". I didn't have to modify anything.

For the interested, I downloaded it from here:
http://www.smartredirect.de/redir/click … -k-CD.html

Mirror:

It seems that the version 11.2.0.1006 is the last version for XP.

Best regards
Josef

Re: Lenovo T440P Support

Welcome to DriverPacks jmeile,

It's awesome that this fixed your issue and is why we don't close old topics.

I am duly impressed that you used search big_smile!

I am further impressed by the detailing of what worked for you. Your experience may help others.

did you use this driver for windows install or for BartPE Plugin?

Thanks for helping us to help you

Yes, that's why I'm posting here. I spent a lot of time looking in google for possible solutions. I tried several things and nothing worked, except by including the drivers from Fernando. The lesson here: Windows XP is discontinued, so intel won't release newer driver for this system; that's why a third party driver must be searched to support the new hardware. I guess creating a VistaPE or WindowsPE CD would be also a solution; they use either Vista or Windows 7 instead of Windows XP.

I used it for building a BartPE CD; however, it isn't a plugin. I just created a folder called: "iastor" under:
<PE_Builder_ROOT>\drivers\SCSIAdapter

then, I copied the driver files there. So, A the end everything looked like:
<PE_Builder_ROOT>\drivers\SCSIAdapter\iastor\iaahci.cat
<PE_Builder_ROOT>\drivers\SCSIAdapter\iastor\iaAHCI.inf
<PE_Builder_ROOT>\drivers\SCSIAdapter\iastor\iastor.cat
<PE_Builder_ROOT>\drivers\SCSIAdapter\iastor\iaStor.inf
<PE_Builder_ROOT>\drivers\SCSIAdapter\iastor\iaStor.sys
<PE_Builder_ROOT>\drivers\SCSIAdapter\iastor\TXTSETUP.OEM

Afterwards, I rebuild the iso image and the drivers were automatically included; no need of activating them under the plugins.

Josef

Re: Lenovo T440P Support

so you added it the "old way", i don't recommend that you add the DriverPack MassStorage BartPE plugin and the old way at the same time. One or the other is safer unless you know for a fact your HWID is not duplicated.

I was forced to move on with newer versions of PE because of UEFI bios but a good UBCD4Win ISO is still worth it's weight in gold.

I don't have DriverpacksPacks.net enabled and the iastor drivers are the only ones inside the SCSIAdapter folder, so, on my case there shouldn't be any problem.

Anyway, I think you are right. A plugin is much better. I even tried to do one, but I failed several times because of using the wrong drivers. Anyway, now that it works, I will try the plugin again.
