Re: [Nightlies] DP_Chipset_wnt5_x86-32_1304-1501 - Public

I removed this files
"\D\C\As\AsusACPI.msi"
"\D\C\As\ATK0100.msi"
"\D\C\As\ATKPI.CAB"
"\D\C\U3\ViaSetup.exe"
This will reduce the size of Chipset Driver Pack from 33MB to 10MB. ^_^
I also run some test no errors but i had no VIA or Asus chip to test it with.
But like you said it would be a good idea to split the fat cats utilities into a 3rd party Driver Pack like it was done with the WLAN Driver Pack. smile

put a link up to the file and we'll see if we get any testers

Re: [Nightlies] DP_Chipset_wnt5_x86-32_1304-1501 - Public

Have added some braille reader drivers into Chipset that exacerbate the bloat.

Looking to make a DP_Misc_Removable_wnt5_x86-32 & DP_Chipset_Utils_wnt5_x86-32 and similar to clean up the packs and ease removable device installation.  Hotkey drivers prolly need go into DP_HID.  A CIR/IrDA pack could also be spun off of Misc.

Chipset appears to be for drivers classed as "System" or "Processor", or for USB Controllers.
All those Removable USB devices in Chipset should go into a Misc_Removable pack, if i have that right.

Does this align with needs for BartPE/UBCD4Win?
Would it be better to release what we have first before making changes that require changes to the main site?

yes, chipset drivers should only be for on the motherboard hardware big_smile.

+100 for that ^_^

Re: [Nightlies] DP_Chipset_wnt5_x86-32_1304-1501 - Public

Well, by the time we get there, it would more likely be DP_Misc_Removable_wnt5_x86-32, DP_Chipset_Utils_wnt5_x86-32, DP_Misc_Removable-Utils_wnt5_x86-32 & DP_Misc-Utils_wnt5_x86-32 methinks.
Misc_Removable to include USB, PCMCIA, 1394 (et al?) removable devices (not PCI or PCIe).
Would a DP_cIR-IrDA be too "over-the-top"?

Progressing towards this style of layout for the packs probably causes complications for admin above me here though.  I like the idea of breaking things down to (hopefully) exand capabilities and choice.

I think the Utilities should be separated and also the drivers for devices that are genetic supported by an Operating System.

I hope you meant ... generic ... as opposed to having genetic drivers. smile

Like Colin Hay (or other Men At Work) might be heard to remark "It's just overkill".  :lol

CIR drivers seem to belong in HID, along with hotkey drivers.
Where do IRDA drivers belong?  They can impair battery cycle duration via Windows "IR Discovery" service.
Can i isolate them in a small IRDA pack?

Re: [Nightlies] DP_Chipset_wnt5_x86-32_1304-1501 - Public

we don't accept files from third party sources...

We need a link to the original source (Intel.com, HP.com, Dell.com). We only use verifiable OEM sources for our packs. Even then we prefer our members to test and vouch for the driver, that it works without any issues. (PS StationDrivers is also not a valid source for our packs, though they are trustworthy and often give us a sneak preview of what is next)

Thanks big_smile

Re: [Nightlies] DP_Chipset_wnt5_x86-32_1304-1501 - Public

Don't make me go through those files again.  Argh.  That is a potential causal factor for "Angina Gluteous Maximus".

Win2k and those certificate issues, and usb2 "landmines" were a tough nut to crack, so-to-speak.
Had to go through it all file by file, double checking sha1 hashes versus .cat files & certificates and all that jazz.

You might have a hard time  believing that a significant portion of their drivers do not play well on multiple operating system major iterations.  zawakened, and others, have noted this a while ago.  See:  http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic. … 719#p53719

"Even the WHQL certification for Win2k of the newest files are bogus for non-updated media, at least.  All those newer files are seen as non-WHQL."

Also, the bigger the Security Catalog, the longer it takes to process which is not so bad when you have few, yet if they were all the latest (again), it would (& did) take noticeably longer for Windows to process drivers.  see:  http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic. … 123#p57123

(see http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic. … 135#p58135 for last NT5 revision of chipset drivers)

Weren't there at least a couple of Vista drivers in what you sent there?  I cannot yet confirm, though strongly suspect.

As for the existing set in the current [Nightlies] of MassStorage & Chipset; it works, doesn't it?  hmm
I would like to reintroduce the DP_MassStorage-IntelIDE pack & default to PCIIDE in main pack, though.

If you do spot individual driver update possibilities, certainly by-all-means-necessary, point them out.

"Weren't there at least a couple of Vista drivers in what you sent there?  I cannot yet confirm, though strongly suspect."

Yes, to correct that, indeed there are.  Despite the fact that the drivers in question are WHQL'ed for 2k, xp, & 2k3, NT5 doesn't have a MSAHCI.inf, like Vista and greater do, as referenced in those few drivers.  The inclusion of those drivers years ago caused some people bluescreens.

It will, as requested earlier by ... you!

Coming with the new Chipset pack will be improvised null-drivers for Intel USB 3.0 & Thunderbolt controllers.

Re: [Nightlies] DP_Chipset_wnt5_x86-32_1304-1501 - Public

USB device drivers (not USB controller drivers) have been exported to the new DP_Misc_USB_wnt5_x86-32 pack.

·DP_Chipset_wnt5_x86-32_1412311.7z - 4.43 MB   A3BA219E3B5D91FF21C9591BA6A0826574ADC76B

Noting that W2kSP4-UR1_HTT-DualCoreCPU.reg dropped my P4-HT power consumption at idle by about 40Watts.
That is, from about 110W to about 70W.     big_smile
    I didn't even have UR1 (KB891861 v2) integrated!  It was a plain-Jane Win2k-SP4 disc.
