Topic: [SOLVED] newdev.dll is missing

Hi !

Seems like the new driverpack base 6.06.1 introduced a new bug or something. During the Windows Setup copy process I always get the error that the file newdev.dll cannot be copied. At first I thought the disc was broken so I tried two other discs, always the same problem.

Then I took a look at the I386 dir on my installation source and there was no newdev.dll. I also took a look at the Original WinXP SP2 CD but newdev.dll does not seem to be a Microsoft file. Since I did not integrate anything else but the driverpacks I gather that this must somehow be a file that should have been integrated by the driverpacks ...

Anyone else have this problem ? Any solution ?
I am integrating all driverpacks (latest) and using M2.

Thanks,
Alex

Re: [SOLVED] newdev.dll is missing

ah ...

there are two files named newdev_SP1.dll and newdev_SP2.dll in the KB883667.7z file inside the bin dir of the drivepack base ;-)

Would it be ok if I manually copy the file newdev_SP2.dll to the I386 folder (renamed to newdev.dll of course) or is there anything else to do? I guess I would need the SP2 file for Windows XP SP2 ??

Thanks,
Alex

Re: [SOLVED] newdev.dll is missing

Newdev.dll is the file necessary for KB883667 wink (Added in 6.06.) It's strange that the file doesn't exist... you did check for newdev.dl_, and not newdev.dll, I hope? And does anyone else have the same problem?

Your proposed solution will work by the way wink

Re: [SOLVED] newdev.dll is missing

Hi Bashrat,

I did a search for newdev ;-) so newdev.dl_ should have been found as well. Ok, I will copy the file manually ;-)

Thanks,
Alex

Re: [SOLVED] newdev.dll is missing

What is the filesize of Newdev.DL_ ?? I found it in the I386 folder and it is only 81 kb in size. Compared to Newdev_SP2.dll in the archive is much bigger 242 kb.

I'm facing some blue screens after installtion (not in safemode). So I will replace Newdev.DL_ in the I386 folder with Newdev_sp2.dll (renamed to newdev.dl_ ) wink

Let's find out what is going on this time, I'm getting a little frustrated by the blue screens.

Thanks so far,

NL President

It's compressed with CAB compression, that's why it's smaller wink

Re: [SOLVED] newdev.dll is missing

Problem is back in : DPs_BASE_607b1 no newdev.dll or newdev.dl_ present after slipstream

POST THIS IN THE BETAS FORUM!

That hotfix is no longer being slipstreamed (mentioned in the changelog), so that's normal wink Or did the DriverPack Sound B accidentally delete the file while an UpdatePack was present? Or did the DriverPack Sound B accidentally still add the entries for it?

Re: [SOLVED] newdev.dll is missing

Sorry but this problem is still there...

I use latest update pack with integrator... newdev.dl_ is still there. BUT when i use the latest base with ALL driverpacks newdev.dl_ disapaers and setup complains about the missing file.

What can i do to remedy this problem?

Re: [SOLVED] newdev.dll is missing

I dont have this problem , never had.
So must be you doing sommething different.

Re: [SOLVED] newdev.dll is missing

No driverpack no problem... simpel as that. But not preffered because i would like to have the driverpack...

Re: [SOLVED] newdev.dll is missing

You slipstreamed all updates manually, perhaps? If no UpdatePack is detected, then the hotfix will be removed. Note that detection for the Russian UpdatePack is currently missing!

Re: [SOLVED] newdev.dll is missing

I slipstreamed the Dutch updatepack with the RVM Intregator after that i made a few tweaks with NLite, made an image and the image is perfect, if i slipstream the driverpacks and then make an image i get the desktop.ini and the missing newdev.dl_ (and perhaps more, but i quit setup than)

Re: [SOLVED] newdev.dll is missing

Then please post your DPs_BASE.ini.

Strange now i have this to

Re: [SOLVED] newdev.dll is missing

It seems to be a combination of this driverpack with Ryan's update pack.

I have it working with a dutch SP2 release

First make a new copy of your windows cd

then first slipstream the driver pack, after this slipstream de Ryan's update pack. After that all works fine (but...still that desktop.ini issue smile )

Re: [SOLVED] newdev.dll is missing

hi Hamza

could you look at the i386 folder in that SP2 CDROM?

If it has a SVCPACK FOLDER, you would never have the corrupted svcpack.in_ issue (even when you put a winnt.sif for unnatended in a clean copy of that source before you base-stream it.), since that file does not exist in these latest SP2 releases.

The answer was 42?

Re: [SOLVED] newdev.dll is missing

Hello,

Just to tell you I have the same problem: newdev.dll is missing ! Never had this before, with same base & mass storage files versions. ... But before what ??? I have added some missing KB, slipstreamed with nLite. Maybe one of them is wrong ? I don't know how to solve that .....

Hi
erm,  better first do RVM with Meulc's oktober pack, and after that do DriverPacks-Base streaming.

what causes the desktop ini thing when one does KTD is still a mystery.
I am ready to run a test with KTD with the pattern one finds in the FAQ section.

May I think Ryan's update pack is NOT concerned, because I don't use Ryan's pack (it's in english, and I only use french Windows XP).
So, guilty is nLite OR DriverBase....

I'm going to make some more tests ....

Re: [SOLVED] newdev.dll is missing

Hi Coccinelle
the main thing I wanted said was to do driverpacks last.

if you do base 610 and are using KTD on a clean copy, it can still produce that desktop ini
all I am going to test is wether entering the pattern stops that "trigger" event.
When Helmi uses pattern, he does not have the issue.
I have not gotten around to testing this for myself, yet, but am gonna do it.
...at the moment the testrig is being used for X64 version trials...

Re: [SOLVED] newdev.dll is missing

Hi,

Today, I have added KB883667 to my list of patch that I slipstream in nLite before integrating the driverpacks.
During setup, I now have a problem with the newdev.dll file that is upgraded by the KB883667 that I slipstreamed before.

According to the logs, DP Base wants to unintegrate it ?
Why is it doing that ?
I really want it to be integrated since it prevents problems with sysprep.

I know this KB used to be integrated by the DP Base itself but got removed due to langage reasons (KB883667 is not language dependant) but I only use the english version and have slipstreamed it myself.

Is it a bug and if not, please can you tell me why it insists that much on removing this hotfix (which breaks the install as newdev.dll isn't present anymore after DP Base has slipstreamed the packs).

Thanks in advance

Re: [SOLVED] newdev.dll is missing

KB883667 was included in SP1 and SP2, wasn't it?  Actually, I think that KB883667 caused video driver issues and they had to release another hotfix to fix the hotfix.  That was supposedly all handled in SP1, though.

Re: [SOLVED] newdev.dll is missing

I'm not sure : the version for newdev in 883667 is higher (2505) than the one is SP2.
