Topic: ATI Xpress 1150 - Graphics - "Unable To Start Device"

Howdy!,

I've had huge success with integrating Driverpacks via driverpacks.net, except for xpress 1150 chipsets. Whenever I push an image to these boxes I get "error Code 10: Device cannot start". If I go to AMD's site and pull down the legacy drivers it installs with no problems at all. Can anyone assist in this issue?

Thanks,
Collin

Please read "Read BEFORE you post" linked in my signature.

It was also presented to you when you signed up as rule #0 with bold print that says "Be absolutely sure you read that BEFORE you post."

It gives you all the info you need to provide us the minimum amount info we need to support you.

Help us to help you. (Read BEFORE you post #5)
Your post above does not provide a single useful piece of info. Not even the basics.
We don't even know what OS you are referring to. we support 2k, XP, 2k3, Vista and Win7
HWIDs are mandatory!
HOW do you use DriverPacks? What is the process you follow. (Read BEFORE you post #6)
what version #s? (Read BEFORE you post #4)

We will be glad to help, but you need to provide ALL the listed info in "Read BEFORE you post" It's called that for a reason tongue. (Why do people think that rules only apply to others? wink)

Re: ATI Xpress 1150 - Graphics - "Unable To Start Device"

REALLY sorry about that. I should know being in IT to not be that vague (been a long day). This is on an Nlite'd XP x86 unattended install. I integrate the DP's after the Nlite build has completed, I then slipstream via DP and build the .iso. As I previously stated this is only occurring for Radeon xpress 1150 graphics drivers (that I have seen so far). If I take the legacy drivers from AMD and install them everything is good to go.

Re: ATI Xpress 1150 - Graphics - "Unable To Start Device"

Im on the most recent versions for both Driverpacks and Base. I edited but it doesn't seem to have stuck, weird. I also used Pastebin as the Android Community has brainwashed me into using it yikes)

Thanks,
Collin

Re: ATI Xpress 1150 - Graphics - "Unable To Start Device"

Just saw something else that's really weird. When I click "Update Driver" it is looking for a .sys file but the directory it is trying to look in isn't even present on the drive. I was under the impression the drivers, when using KTD, should be in C:\Windows\DriverPacks and the OS should point there for new hardware? Not sure if these are related but throwing it out there to give some more insight as what funkyness I'm seeing.

Re: ATI Xpress 1150 - Graphics - "Unable To Start Device"

There is almost no reason in the world to use KTD... Why are you under the impression you need to do this.

And KTD "All" will NEVER work. many drivers require the DriverPacks Finisher to run and it will only run during windows installation.

KTD is for adding a few 3rd party DriverPack to cover things that might be added to a machine after it is delivered IE a MODEM a monitor or a printer, it is for adding simple external devices AFTER the machine is installed. It was never designed to reenumerate a machine, and it will fail miserably if you attempt to do so. Kinda like using a sledge hammer to loosen a screw.

I notice now that you say you are pushing an image? YOU CAN NOT use KTD for this... Please read the "universal Imaging" forum here for more info on how to Image a PC properly.

short version Use Galepos OffLine sysprep to add mass, chipset and LAN then use SAD (DriverPacks Stand Alone Drivers solution / platform) to post install the drivers. Do not use the DriverPacks "Disc" platform if you are NOT installing from a disc. It ROCKS if you use it as intended, installing from an ODD. (who would have guessed that wink) you must use the correct tool for the job, or fail.

PS Never use nLite... I know it is quick and easy and lot's of people do it BUT,
1) it is really awful for your source
2) It is stated by it's author NOT to be used in a commercial environment, this is written in it's license. Put another way you are specifically forbidden from using it at work.

nLite is good for a home user who has little or no exerience and is only loading a single home PC. Beyond that it serves no useful purpose. It is also abandonware.

C U in the universal imaging forum!

Re: ATI Xpress 1150 - Graphics - "Unable To Start Device"

As far as KTD goes...If It's an option that ultimately doesn't work, why is it even there?

I guess using the word push was incorrect seeing how I am in fact using an ODD to install the image on the box. This has only been an issue with one chipset but  I guess this thread is pretty much done so I'll just abandon the project and install them manually.

BTW I do know how to image a box properly and have had success with every box except this one particular chipset, but I guess my preparation is flawed somewhere in the phantom sectors on my disc. I'll check the universal forum. Hopefully in there someone can resolve this issue.

Thanks

Re: ATI Xpress 1150 - Graphics - "Unable To Start Device"

As I said KTD has a place in fact it ultimately works PERFECT IF you use it for what it is designed for... It is there to intstall simple external devices like Modems, Monitors, and Printers. Devices that will be attached after the installation. It is there to serve it's purpose. Tools can be used properly or they can be used improperly. It is not the tools fault if it is not used correctly. That is user error. Just because you need a screwdriver this time does not mean you should set all your other tools out for the trash.

I already explained in detail exactly why it is there in my last post, please see the third paragraph... sad But I have posted it again here. Perhaps this time you will read it.

If you are "installing" from an ODD then the issue can and will be corrected in the DriverPack.
mr_smartepants will likely show up with a test pack for you.

Push installs are not supported... We do have a large following of users who install this way, however they mostly support themselfs. If you are not doing push installs then you should NOT post in the universal imaging forum. You clearly said you were doing so... and was the only info you gave regarding your deployment method.

Again our help is only as good as the info you provide to us... you said you were doing push installs, If that was not correct info. GIGO. (Garbage In Garbage Out) this is exactly why we provide "Read before you post" this clearly falls under #6 "Tell us what you did - Could we try to reproduce your issue ourselves just based on your first post?" here we are at post 5 and we are nearly to the point were we could try to reproduce your issue ourselves. big_smile

if you are doing ODD "installs" then your issue is supported and will be corrected. if you are "deploying an image" from an ODD then you need to provide good DETAILS in the Universal imaging forum.

At this point it is not clear if you are installing from an ODD or deploying an image from an ODD. there is a huge difference between the two install methods.

Details are the key and getting them from you has been like pulling teeth. that is not our fault. You using tools correctly or not is also not our fault. You came here to get help and we are doing our best to do so. That is why i told you that you were not using KTD as it was intended. In fact in 999 out of 1000 situations it is not needed at all, however that one in a thousand is signifigant and makes it worth keeping, especially since we have hundreds of thousands of users if not millions. that means there are thousands of users who do in fact need it, the odds you are one of them are slim, as I said. In fact based on what you have told us... which is almost nothing... you probably don't need it at all. However just because YOU don't need it does not mean we should stop what we are doing and remove it from the program ... We did not make DriverPacks BASE as a custom app just for you. Trust me you are far from being our only user. Stop the presses! JuggalotusHeat does not need that lets rewrite the whole project!

You are still giving conflicting info. are you installing windows from an ODD or are you deploying an image from an ODD? what program did you use to take the image? did you create the image in a virtual machine or on live hardware? do you sysprep before imaging? what steps to you take to prep your image? how do you deal with the HAL? are the DriverPacks included in the KTD folder of your image? do you use DPINST?

based on your ability to post for help and based on the research you have done to use BASE and your selection of nLite i seriously doubt that you do know how to image a box properly. In fact i would bet money that you don't.

get your act together and we WILL help you. it's up to you.
No one can help you if you can't provide proper (complete) details the problem.

Thanks

Re: ATI Xpress 1150 - Graphics - "Unable To Start Device"

First off I am not using sysprep because creating the base on an intel box and installing on an AMD was a nightmare. I will be sure not to use KTD from now on. Here is the steps I have taken to create my .iso and how I install it on the computer:

1. Took a retail .VLK and added oembios files to make it oem.
2. Copied contents to disk.
3. Opened said contents in nLite
4. Made modifications (auto-join domain, set local admin user/pass and auto-login once)
5. Integrate service packs, hotfixes, updates and other programs created from SFX Maker
6. run DPBase to integrate driver packs.
7. Run nLite to creat Bootable Disc but skip over all previous set options,
8. Burn the Disc and walk to the computer, place disc in the tray, and let it fly.

That is how I image the boxes and it has worked on all of them except the xpress 1150 chipset, as previously stated. I understand where your coming from and I appreciate the help but I'm not trying to get in a (insert word here) with anyone just to figure out why one driver for the chipset is borked. I'm going to try and run DriverForge post install today and see if the driver for the chipset installs properly.

Thanks

Re: ATI Xpress 1150 - Graphics - "Unable To Start Device"

I have an older HP 5750 on my bench at work.  It has an ATI xPress 1150 chipset.  I'll pull the drive (win7) and put a replacement drive in and try my XP install with DriverPacks.  I use an ODD install disc very similar to yours (U_H's updatepack, OEM activation, no domain, used RVMi for build).
If I verify that the install is normal, then the problem has something to do with how you build or the contents of your build.

I'll report back with my build logs and results tomorrow evening.

Oh, BTW, I never use KTD but I always use my SAD2-enabled thumb drive.

I'm definitely going to get rid of KTD for now as I think it is actually pointless for our setup. Thanks for looking into this, much appreciated smile

EDIT: Just took a look at SAD2 and I am DEFINITELY gonna look into using that. Very Nice!

Re: ATI Xpress 1150 - Graphics - "Unable To Start Device"

I'm updating SAD2 right now also.  There's a bug in the code that will keep the drivers regardless of the setting.  I'll upload that tonight as well.  I've been testing it all week.

Re: ATI Xpress 1150 - Graphics - "Unable To Start Device"

OK confusion is eliminated. You are definitely not pushing an image. You are NOT imaging at all.

You are NOT imaging the boxes.

You are doing a normal INSTALL.

We can fix this now that we know what is going on. your misuse of terminology has made this much harder than needed. Now we are all on the same page.

Since you are doing a standard install and not imaging we can support you and i am sure a fix will be presented in short order. big_smile

Thanks mr_smartepants. What a stroke of luck you have his hardware!

There's no problem with DriverPack Graphics C.

Re: ATI Xpress 1150 - Graphics - "Unable To Start Device"

I tested with DPBase again and DriverForge (Separate install and after first login) it is trying to find ati2mtag.sys in a directory that doesn't even exist on the local drive. The correct path that I found was G\A\B_95503 directory. I'm thinking it may be KTD and not the DP. I'll test with DriverForge post install and see what it does.

Re: ATI Xpress 1150 - Graphics - "Unable To Start Device"

I'm certain your problem stems from KTD.  That file definitely exists in DriverPack Graphics C 11.07.
