-------------+Driver folder name (etc...)
-------------+etc...

Am I doing it right?

Re: [Tutorial] Making your own DriverPacks for n00bs

Shorten the Original names to something smaller, just to be on the safe side, and try IcemanND's Driver Backup its really cool, you can find a CPL addon for it here also http://www.wincert.net/forum/index.php?showforum=88

And YES your folder placements look good wink

Re: [Tutorial] Making your own DriverPacks for n00bs

so i can just use the Driver Genius Professional to get the drivers i need. can tose drivers work on different machines to?. for example i will back up my 8800gt  card can i use those drivers to a second pc that uses 8600 gpu?? since all nvidia cards have same drivers? or if i backup realtek drivers for the motherboard  asus p5k,  can i use them to restore drivers to motherboard p5kpl-vm or similar boards since those boards have the same audio chip?

also Driver Genius Professional backs up a few more files about 6-7 more, than if i get them by myself if i just back up manually  according to the [soursediskfiles].
Driver Genius Professional gives me about 15 files and when i get the files according to [soursediskfiles] i have to get only about 10. is the ok or i do soething wrong with the manual extraction? i just read the [soursediskfiles from any inf file inside the folder with my drivers

Re: [Tutorial] Making your own DriverPacks for n00bs

No you did nothing wrong m8... Some devices use the same INF

BTW this driver backup tool is better, it renames the INF and CAT files http://www.msfn.org/board/Utility-Drive … 83960.html

Re: [Tutorial] Making your own DriverPacks for n00bs

I cannot seem to get this to work... I have tried extracting the files directly from the driver installation files, and from the computer using this http://www.msfn.org/board/Utility-Drive … 83960.html utility...

My folder structure is as follows...

D
3
  S
   AA
   AB
   AC
   ...

Re: [Tutorial] Making your own DriverPacks for n00bs

So, where do you run into problems?
I take it extracting the driver files did work properly?

Re: [Tutorial] Making your own DriverPacks for n00bs

extracting was fine... I used Universal Extractor to extract them... Then i followed the method to create the pack. I then tried putting them into my XP install and they did not install correctly... I also tried extracting them from the computer using the free software that ricktendo recommended. Neither way worked... I think it might have something to do with how sony packed the drivers... I really dont know...

Re: [Tutorial] Making your own DriverPacks for n00bs

Well, if those extracted files contained at least an .INF and a .SYS file (sometimes also a few .DLLs and a .CAT), it should work - if not, the driver is not applicable for installation with BASE.

Some drivers may re3quire you to start the DL'ed installer, then peek into your %TEMP% dir for the extracted files, you can abort the installation after you copied those files to a save place.

If you used the Driver Backup app, it will collect those files from your current system, provided the device and drivers are already installed on it!

You will also need to add the driver archive you created (let's call it 3rd party DriverPack wink) using the BASE, place it into the 3rd party DriverPack sub-folder and enable the option for 3rd party DriverPack on the selection page.

I have another idea

How about The Bâshrat the Sneaky DriverPack Maker?... (just like the nLite Addon Maker but for DriverPacks Base)

It can work the same way as this program Driver Genius Pro, It can back up the drivers on a paticular machine and then automatically 7zip it and create a Bâshrat the Sneaky DriverPack.

Wouldnt that be awesome?

Instead of a separate program maybe have it built into DriverPacks Base, yes have DriverPacks Base make its own driverpacks for just that machine

EDIT: @ Helmi I use WinRar cuz of the cool themes smile I use 7zip for Compressing but WinRar for Extracting.

Definatly love this idea guys, im goin to try and make my own DriverPacks since I have about 2GB's of drivers to slipstream into XP

Re: [Tutorial] Making your own DriverPacks for n00bs

this may be possable without too much trouble
I mean generating a machine specific pack - not adding 2gig of drivers from a set of folders wink

with the dpinst tool from ms this may be pretty easy to do indeed. single machine packs are not in keeping with our goals and objectives. Our primary objective is to have a set of drivers that will support all hardware. so that would be teh opposite wink however if i can do it without to much trouble i dont see why it couldn't be done as a stand alone app / script (like dp_inst_tool for example).

put a post over in feature requests (so i dont forget) and we will see what happens, I'm sure your not the only one who would like this.

Re: [Tutorial] Making your own DriverPacks for n00bs

What about driver signing? I tried the method above, then I created a driverpacks. And used it, but I doesn't automatically install the driver, but when I do manually install it asked for a digital signature / compatibility and successfully when I click continue.

Is there any way to create a digital signature for the driver before I slipstreamed it.

Re: [Tutorial] Making your own DriverPacks for n00bs

Post a link to the driver and your device hardware id lets have a look

BTW what did you use to collect the driver, did you manually do it or did you use a program

I am using Driver Genius, to backup the driver.

Anyway, I have figured it myself. I download the driver installer for my device, get the driver files from the installer, then created a 3rd Party driver, and slipstreamed to my OS, after the OS installation all my unknown device are successfully installed.

Before the slipstreaming, I collected the needed drivers from driverpacks such as for Display, Chipset, Lan and customized it to have my 3rd party driver.

Done

Re: [Tutorial] Making your own DriverPacks for n00bs

I'm trying to add Dell PERC H200 driver into driverpacks and can't get it to work. The idea is to slipstream the driver into a BartPE build and then backup my Dell PowerEdge T110 server. If I copy the drivers into BartPE's "drivers" folder and rebuild, then boot up the server using the build it says "Cannot find lsi_sas2.sys".

Anyway back to DP:

In Settings of DriverPacks, the "3rd party DriverPack(s) option is always grayed out. "DPs_BASE.log" has the following line:

2011-01-07 15:24:46 : <INIT>     Detected 3rd Party DriverPack PERCH200!

So according to the log it should work. So why is the option still grayed out?

Thanks!

Re: [Tutorial] Making your own DriverPacks for n00bs

I think you have to create or add your driver to a .INI

Re: [Tutorial] Making your own DriverPacks for n00bs

Third Party DriverPacks always use the filename DP_*title*_wnt5_x86-32_YYMM.7z and always have the folder structure \D\3\*\*
Mass storage drivers don't play well as Third Party DriverPacks.  You should consider making your own (or altering) dpms.
