Topic: Realtek AC97 audio blue screen

Ever since I've started using the recent driverpack sound updates on my unattended CD I've been getting some bluescreens during the windows xp setup. When it goes to install the drivers it bluescreens and mentions portcls.sys and that's about it. Re-starting the setup seems to work but then I have to uninstall the sound driver and download the official one.

The computer it's bluescreening on right now is a dell GX270 that has integrated realtek AC97 audio.

how can I post my log since you dont allow long posts or attachments?

Re: Realtek AC97 audio blue screen

the log may have to be split into two or three posts... or you could just snip the relevent part out and post that...

Re: Realtek AC97 audio blue screen

if I am reading that correctly there is no portcls.sys for the ac97 driver? Does that mean it tried to use the wrong driver?

The setup bluescreened right in the middle and then resumed. I'm not seeing any evidence of that in the setupapi.log. I don't see anything mentioning portcls.sys either. Should I post the whole log?

Re: Realtek AC97 audio blue screen

I may have found the problem. I just discovered that my sound B pack was half the size it should be. It would be nice if there was some kind of automatic CRC verification or something of downloaded archives considering their size. I often have to re-download the archives a lot because my connection drops out sometimes.

wink funny you should mention that.  You might want to keep an eye on the testing forum VERY soon... wink

Re: Realtek AC97 audio blue screen

you MUST have the correct chipset drivers installed before trying any other driver.

please post the log snippets that tell us about the base hardware devices and the drivers that were loaded.

Re: Realtek AC97 audio blue screen

I think the corrupted pack was the issue this time...

MD5 check-sum verification is 99.99% done in my local copy (head revision)..., at least for downloads done directly from DriverPacks BASE
mr_smartepants got a sneak preview yesterday wink.
IDK if i will even attempt to implement MD5 further checks...
IE for selected packs that are already on the local machine.
That is possible, but IDK if it is worth the effort to code... (Jeff scratches his head and shrugs)
Bad DLs are not an issue that is reported very often. Simple CDN has eliminated most of those issues for us big_smile!

It was the problem, you can close this thread now thanks smile

We don't usually close threads...
We hope that someone with a similar issue will find it, and Post here rather than starting a new thread wink

Thanks for reporting your success and letting us know that re-downloading a corrupt DriverPack was in fact the resolution!

Have an awesome day and thanks for reporting!

Re: Realtek AC97 audio blue screen

This just happened to me again on a different computer that was on a better connection that doesn't drop out. The sound b that was downloaded by driverpacks base was too small.

Re: Realtek AC97 audio blue screen

nevermind
