Topic: [IMPL] LAN 8.12.1 & 903n2 - "NV" folder - driver files missing

Hi,

I just wanted to inform you, that nforce2 based ethernet chipsets will choose the "NV"-folder during installation.
However this driver does not install the necessary "NVIDIA Network Bus Enumerator". Therefore the ethernet will fail to work eventually. (I my case it always failed when I wanted to remote access my shared drives).

The drivers from the nvidia Unified Drivers v5.10 worked flawlessly
http://www.nvidia.de/object/nforce_udp_ … 10_de.html

I tested the DPLAN 8.121 and the "nightly DriverPack LAN 903n2" with the same negative result.
Exchanging the contents of the "NV" folder with the driver version from the nvidia driver pack 5.10 worked for me.

Just to let you know and improve the DP's quality!

Cheers!

Thanks a million for the excellent details, trouble shooting, testing and the link

it's a perfect post sir!

Re: [IMPL] LAN 8.12.1 & 903n2 - "NV" folder - driver files missing

@dangerfreak

Can you clarify:

do you use drivers
nForce_5.10_WinXP2K_WHQL_international\Ethernet\

or drivers
nForce_5.10_WinXP2K_WHQL_international\Ethernet\PreNRM\Win2K\
nForce_5.10_WinXP2K_WHQL_international\Ethernet\PreNRM\WinXP\

Re: [IMPL] LAN 8.12.1 & 903n2 - "NV" folder - driver files missing

Thank you,

glad I could help smile

To clarify, I am using:
nForce_5.10_WinXP2K_WHQL_international\Ethernet\   (=NVIDIA Network Bus Enumerator, which is essential!)
AND
nForce_5.10_WinXP2K_WHQL_international\Ethernet\PreNRM\WinXP\ (=NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller)

Re: [IMPL] LAN 8.12.1 & 903n2 - "NV" folder - driver files missing

Well dangerfreak i've looked at the driver you provided and the problem is that even if it is working for your devices, this driver support way less HWIDs (devices) than the one in the NV folder. So the best solution would be to fix the one we are using right now or to get a newer one without dropping any HWIDs.

Re: [IMPL] LAN 8.12.1 & 903n2 - "NV" folder - driver files missing

I guess the problem lies within the following files that are actually missing: "nvnetbus.cat", "nvnetbus.inf", "nvnetbus.sys", "nvnetbus.tag". Adding these should solve the problem and add support for the "NVIDIA Network Bus Enumerator" that seems to have the same hardware-id as the corresponding network interface card.

Re: [IMPL] LAN 8.12.1 & 903n2 - "NV" folder - driver files missing

It seems this is not yet fixed in "DP_LAN_wnt5_x86-32_90904.7z" as the mentioned files above are still missing!

Re: [IMPL] LAN 8.12.1 & 903n2 - "NV" folder - driver files missing

i found like six folders with those files in them... where are they missing from?

Re: [IMPL] LAN 8.12.1 & 903n2 - "NV" folder - driver files missing

the folder "NV" does not contain the following files, as it should have:
\PreNRM
\bdco1.dll
\fdco1.dll
\nvconrm.dll
\nvefd2k.sys
\nvefdxp.sys
\nvenetfd.cat
\nvenetfd.inf
\nvenetfd.tag
\nvnetbus.cat
\nvnetbus.inf
\nvnetbus.sys
\nvnetbus.tag
\nvnrm.nvu
\nvnrm.sys
\nvsnpu.sys
\nvunrm.exe
\PreNRM\WinXP
\PreNRM\WinXP\fdco1.dll
\PreNRM\WinXP\nvcoe.dll
\PreNRM\WinXP\nvenet.cat
\PreNRM\WinXP\nvenet.nvu
\PreNRM\WinXP\nvenet.sys
\PreNRM\WinXP\nvenetxp.inf
\PreNRM\WinXP\nvuenet.exe

There might be different folders containing these files (eg. "NV3") but they have a different driver versions (see .inf-file) which is not compatible with nforce2 boards)

Re: [IMPL] LAN 8.12.1 & 903n2 - "NV" folder - driver files missing

thanks for repeating the folder details sir! I wanted to be sure.

No they're not.  They haven't been renamed yet.  They get renamed on install.
Have you seen a "file not found" error?  No, you didn't.

Here's a link from M$ on .inf section breakdown: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms790193.aspx
And specifically, the portion of the "copyfiles" directive: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms794560.aspx

Microsoft wrote:

Each named section referenced by a CopyFiles directive has one or more entries of the following form:

[file-list-section]
destination-file-name[,[source-file-name][,[unused][,flag]]]

And here's the section from \NV1\nvenetfd.inf (the others are similar).

[NVENET_XP.CopyFiles]
NVENETFD.sys,nvefdxp.sys,,2

Understand now? wink

Re: [IMPL] LAN 8.12.1 & 903n2 - "NV" folder - driver files missing

Allright for those nvenetfd.sys files, I understood, thanks. I copied every nvefdxp.sys to nvenetfd.sys.
However, I still have error compiling my BartPE CD with this driver pack (with fdco1ins.dll & bdco1ins.dll files). Here's a part of the error log:
