Re: Graphics A x86

Hi muiz,

thanks ! One suggestion: Would you mind leaving the Windows 7 drivers (for ATI, NVIDIA but maybe others too) in the driverpack when building it ? I guess many guys will use the Vista driverpacks for Win7 as well so if the Vista driver already comes with Win7 drivers, why not integrate them until Win7 packs are available ?

Thanks !
Alex

Re: Graphics A x86

Hi again,

one more thing:

as has been posted in the MSFN forum, you need to expand the compressed dl_, ex_, sy_ etc. files while keeping the "_" at the end of the extension otherwise dism will throw an error ...

Bye,
Alex

Re: Graphics A x86

Many drivers support Vista/Win7 with no modification whatsoever.  ATI/Nvidia do this by default.  I'm certain we'll be maintaining that configuration in the future.

Sorry, but that doesn't even make sense.  Why would you have an uncompressed file WITH the "_" in the filename which designates it as compressed.  Leaving the files in their compressed state won't harm anything (other than DriverPacks compression size.)
I don't see anything in the M$ documentation regarding compressed/decompressed drivers, but IIRC in order to integrate properly they MUST be digitally signed.
Link to proof please?

Re: Graphics A x86

ATI driver works fine here without all that.
And its not possible to keep the win7 inf , it will give you a BSOD.

Re: Graphics A x86

Hi muiz,

both are not true here. I keep the Win7 inf without any BSOD or any other problem.
And no, ATI driver will not install on Windows7 with dism.exe when it is not expanded. I am not talking about Vista but Win7.

Bye,
Alex

Re: Graphics A x86

I tested this pack in Windows 7 on an ATI card  and it did NOT give me any problems.
And i did NOT expand anything !!

Installed fine !!

And for the inf, i can make an extra pack with both infs.
If it works without BSOD i will replace the pack.

See here how i do this :

Re: Graphics A x86

Download : http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx

Install the driver even if you do not have an ATI graphics card , it will unpack to C:\ATI (When the setup has finished unpacking you can close it.
Then go to the driver folder.
Example :

C:\ATI\Support\9_3_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_wdm_enu\Driver\Packages\Drivers\Display

Delete all ".msi" and ".ini" files from that folder.
Then go to the "BIN" folder of the ATI package.
Example x64:

C:\ATI\Support\9_3_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_wdm_enu\Driver\Bin64

Example x86:

C:\ATI\Support\9_3_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_wdm_enu\Driver\Bin

And copy the ".SYS" file from there.
Example :

x64: atdcm64a.sys, x86: atidcmxx.sys

And paste that into the driver folder.
Example :

C:\ATI\Support\9_3_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_wdm_enu\Driver\Packages\Drivers\Display

And for the WDM drivers

C:\ATI\Support\9_3_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_wdm_enu\Driver\Packages\Drivers\WDM

Just delete the ".msi" files.

Important: DONT unpack or uncab any files!

EDIT :
Since the ATI driver also contains the Windows 7 driver, this guide needs a little change.
When the driver is used for Vista , you have to remove the cat and inf file for Windows 7.
Just open the inf file and if it contains "NTamd64.6.0" its for Vista and "NTamd64.6.1" its for Windows 7
If you dont remove this, you will get a BSOD.

Re: Graphics A x86

Hi Muiz,

thanks. I guess I am doing it this was already except I do not remove the w7 infs (and I don´t get any BDODs) and I am expanding all the files keeping their extension filename (dl_ etc.) because dism.exe won´t integrate them on W7 otherwise.

Bye,
Alex
