Topic: nForce SATA/SATARAID not working

Hey there smile i am just wondering if anyone else has come across this problem or can't work out what's going on. I run a nForce4 ultra board, on using  BASE6.08.3 i have a small problem where once xp is installed if you try to do a restart the system hang's or if you shut the system down it take's about 6-10min. This only happen's with my system setup in a raid 0 config if i use one of the drive's out the raid and load it up to xp, xp work's fine ?? what the!!  anyway to fix this problem just download 6.86_nforce drives run and just install the "nVidia storage drivers" this will fix the problem. I think it might be the IDE driver making it hang, unfortunely i didn't check before running the nforce driver.

Re: nForce SATA/SATARAID not working

Did you note down the driver version that was initially installed? i.e. the version that caused problems. That'd be most useful.

Re: nForce SATA/SATARAID not working

me bad, it was 4 in the morning !! i'll reload,  and note driver's this time  wink

Re: nForce SATA/SATARAID not working

ok i'm back this what i found .....

nVidia nForce PATA controller driver       5.10.2600.518    11/2/05
                    RAID  Class controller       5.10.2600.667    1/5/06
RAID SATA raid contoller   5.10.2600.666     24/4/06

after you run the nVidia driver pack the only one to chance and fix's my problem is

                   RAID  Class controller       5.10.2600.666    24/4/06

so they roll back ??? anyway is fix's everythink..

Re: nForce SATA/SATARAID not working

Bâshrat the Sneaky where did u get the RAID  Class controller       5.10.2600.667    1/5/06  from  ???? i just throught the nVidia drivers and i can't find it in there ...

Re: nForce SATA/SATARAID not working

Bâshrat the Sneaky i just found the problem smile  for some reason it's intergrating the DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_608\D\M\N\590SLI\R driver have a look at the .inf file RAID  Class controller  is "5.10.2600.667"

just found this http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1446    but there runnig all .667 drivers ..... this maybe why it intergrate .667 being a newer driver instead of the .666 what do u think??

Re: nForce SATA/SATARAID not working

I'll compare the hwids and report back. Could you also post your DPsFnshr.log? Since the hwids can be found in it.

Hey Bâshrat the Sneaky if i unzip the massstorage DP, replace the the 590SLI drivers with nF4 drivers, and repack would that work for the time being???

Also fyi  Im using "5.10.2600.667" instaed of the "5.10.2600.666" drives all around at the moment and they seam to work fine smile

So instead of this:

... you're now using this:

Re: nForce SATA/SATARAID not working

Hey if i go devices manager - Nvidia nForce Serial ATA controller properties - Drivers -update driver - fine one driver - then unpack your DP -  then UNTICKED "Show compatible hardware" it show me 2 listing for the 590/570/550 SATA controller  .666 & .667

with the Raid Class controller with show compaitble hardware TICKED it shows 2 version again 5.10.2600.666 & 667 this where i would say it's getting confused,......

i have so screen shots but i cant work out how to upload them if u want to have a look just let me know smile

ps this was all done on 6.08.5

Re: nForce SATA/SATARAID not working

This is what my pc shows in hard ware devices

By default the computer loads NVidia nForce4 Serial ata raid controller    5.10.2600.666    24/4/06

but if you go into DM and untick   "show compatible hardware"    there are three drivers for the NVidia nForce Serial ATA Controlroller that the computer can chose from

NVidia nForce 590/570/55  Serial ATA Controlroller  5.10.2600.667      1/5/06   not compatible hardware
              &
NVidia nForce 590/570/55 Serial ATA Controlroller   5.10.2600.666    24/4/06   not compatible hardware
              &
NVidia nForce4 Serial ata raid controller    5.10.2600.666    24/4/06   compatible hardware

ok now we move on to the  nVidia nForce Raid class controller there are also 2 choses the computer can chose from   but loads by default   nVidia nForce Raid class controller 5.10.2600.667    1/5/06

nVidia nForce Raid class controller 5.10.2600.667    1/5/06     compatible hardware
                                            &
nVidia nForce Raid class controller 5.10.2600.666    24/4/06     compatible hardware

now both of these show they are compatible drivers, so it load .667 being newer and the
NVidia nForce Serial ATA Controlroller loads    nForce4 .666  which is where u get a driver miss match which then cause's the problem of not shutting down

It a nVidia problem not DP problem hey it just unfortunaly there are the same ......   smile

Re: nForce SATA/SATARAID not working

Just to let you know I unpacked your MassStorage DP Deleted the  590sli drivers, repacked and now the correct drivers are installed straight away  (all .666) wink

Re: nForce SATA/SATARAID not working

There are 2 ways to solve this. One that will work immediately: using a modified driver that supports ALL devices at once. The other, hard way is to force the installation of a certain driver through the Finisher. But how to detect when a valid system is present? But that's not the core problem: this is a 'SCSI Miniport Driver', which cannot be updated without a reboot.

Anyhow, there are less complications and there will be less problems if I use a modified driver. I had to break my own policy eventually I guess... tongue

Re: nForce SATA/SATARAID not working

Finaly bashrat gets the point.
Better a beta or modified driver then BSOD.

Re: nForce SATA/SATARAID not working

I'm all for the modified or beta driver smile    and If people want to run other drivers then they can just run a manual update later...

Re: nForce SATA/SATARAID not working

@muiz3: it was working in the past... it is no longer today, so that's why I've decided this wink

Re: nForce SATA/SATARAID not working

This problem is specific to the HWIDs that are shared between the 666 and 667 driver. So the problem is not yet completely solved.
