Topic: [BUG] [SOLVED!!] BSOD with Acer M5640 (nForce 630i) DP 8.05

Hi all

With a Acer Aspire M5640 (nForce 630i) i have a BSOD 0x0000007B

The SATA-Controller is in Bios fixed to RAID mode (greyed out, not changeable)

after setup with normal XP-CD and "have disk" F6, i see in device manager this devices:

nVidia NForce RAID Controller - ACPI\NVRAID20\3&267A616A&0
nVidia nForce Serial ATA controller - PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_07F8&SUBSYS.01371025&REV_A2\3&267A616A&0&70

i tried to enhance the DP_MassStorage without success
i created new Folder "7" in Folder "N" and here i saved the driver files SATAIDE Driver (v10.3.0.42) WHQL and
SATARAID Driver (v10.3.0.42) WHQL  from http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_winxp_15.24.html

Re: [BUG] [SOLVED!!] BSOD with Acer M5640 (nForce 630i) DP 8.05

SamLab did some changes on the nvidia section in our last test pack.

Please test it and report back!

Re: [BUG] [SOLVED!!] BSOD with Acer M5640 (nForce 630i) DP 8.05

As know there is a nForce Raid driver pair:
a "System Bus Extender" and a "SCSI Miniport"

In additon Nvidia released old and new driver pairs:
   SCSI Miniport System Bus Extender
old: nvatabus.sys  nvraid.sys
new: nvgts.sys     nvrd32.sys

To make it worse:
HardwareID *_NVRAIDBUS and *NVRAIDBUS are used for old and new drivers.
Hence a *_NVRAIDBUS may refer to a nvraid.sys or nvrd32.sys.

Does a old System Bus Extender nvraid.sys match both old and new SCSI Miniport?
Does a new System Bus Extender nvrd32.sys match both old and new SCSI Miniport?
Or how to concat the same HardwareID to different drivers?

nVidia NForce RAID Controller - ACPI\NVRAID20\3&267A616A&0

Should be compatible HardwareID *NVRAID20.
This match a new System Bus Extender nvrd32.sys.

DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_810D.7z set txtsetup.sif

GenNvRaidDisk="nvraid"
*NVRAIDBUS="nvraid"
*NVRAID20="nvraid"
*_NVRAIDBUS="nvraid"

In addition there is another open question.
Does nvgts.sys require PnpInterface=5 at textmode setup?

Re: [BUG] [SOLVED!!] BSOD with Acer M5640 (nForce 630i) DP 8.05

Hi,
@ cdob, in reply to post 4
A1 to Q1; I reckon so. There is a known problem with Nvidia, and yesterday I got into a discussion with Microsoft people about WHQL. (at long last, I got into contact with real people with real ears.)

The things I picked up tell me they are not at all pleased with Nvidia.
OK, we al ready knew that.
I think the communities may get some say, and I think we can help improve our say when we put proof of conflict in public, while using official WHQL releases from NV to prove where they are a mess.

This may mean we have to openly discuss what people do to get around known issues.
There was some unbelief in me, but right now there is a truism ringing in my ears.  I had almost left that discussion with a feeling of uncertainty, when something said by a senior finally hit. Our work is used by legit PRO, and the solutions we describe are in the net.
What that meant to me was that anything we publish which is  not bending nor breaking any rules could be, and if our solution is helping PROs, then we are probably also helping others.
Well, warez are helping themselves to anything they find in the net.

People at Microsoft are quite actively fighting warez.

The answer was 42?
Kind regards, Jaak.

Re: [BUG] [SOLVED!!] BSOD with Acer M5640 (nForce 630i) DP 8.05

here is a note I would like to put out to all active bug hunters.

Do not just lurk.
Help us by showing what a difference a filtered DriverPacks made when you installed a machine, or rolled out to many.

In the discussion at Microsoft HQ Belgium I sorta dropped a stick in a henhouse, or.. I stuck out my neck.
I noticed there were several people there taking note and some knew quite wel what the WHQL problem was about. There were some there giving testimony to the usefulness of DriverPacks. NO kidding. I was awestruck when that happened (More of that was then discussed in after session 'dinner', and some seniors took more notes when that was going on.)
I knew DriverPacks was on the map for some peers worldwide, but I had no idea  there were such a high percentage aware of us in the EMEA MVP group. Our users made a buzz.

get buzzing about sysprep conflicts. Or whatever.. You are not only helping us help you, you will eventually make somebody write a notice to some slapsmuck so he gets his act together and cleans up his INF for us. (hopefully)

The answer was 42?
Kind regards, Jaak.

It is quite inspireing to think that our project may actualy make PnP a more effective and stable vehicle.

maybe we will all get jobs at the WHQL  wink
i suppose the vendors wouldn't like haveing a new sheriff in town wink

Sheriff Jaak... has a nice ring to it...
but i think constable Smartepants is a bit much wink

Re: [BUG] [SOLVED!!] BSOD with Acer M5640 (nForce 630i) DP 8.05

I'm glad to see some pros use and appreciate the work we have done.

Re: [BUG] [SOLVED!!] BSOD with Acer M5640 (nForce 630i) DP 8.05

JakeLD, I have to say that people in your trade (using sysprep or whatever they did to do roll-outs..) snapped to attention when I was asked to tell something about me and what I do  in IT...

Their ears got perked when I said I am not in IT, and then launched into how I walked myself into a world of online wonders.
I pleaded for MSFT dicision makers to look at WHQL shortly after I told them about how I liked to get people help each other.
Like, we help a guy about a BSOD. We learned, and had to repeat that solution over and over.
Years later, we still help a guy about BSOD on newer OS, do something about it and try do do something that works for keeps.
Still later, in a new OS which already has a million drivers native to it.. do something about the reason for BSOD.. and the analogy where we see a 8086 ID issue in things like nvidia broadcom, via, and silicone..
The persuasion gimic I used to get belgian CEO take notice was I said he had an issue selling windows and sloppy writers with nvidia or ATI  and broadcom are not.
And people with a BSOD on that generic 8086.. which is an intel HWID? Blame windows.
UP the ears went.

Re: [BUG] [SOLVED!!] BSOD with Acer M5640 (nForce 630i) DP 8.05

The OP had an excellent question i felt we should share with our audience.

Hi OverFlow
bevor i try your idea, can you explane, why with index "7" (nvgts7 instead nvgts; nvrd327 instead nvrd32 ?

Thank you

The simple answer is because we have 7 unique drivers that are all named nvrd32
Because Nvidia has no clue how to create drivers correctly.
None of their versions can coexist in the \I386 folder together since they all have the same name wink
(Duh, new driver - new file names - get a clue guys)

The "tag" name is what base renames them to so they can coexist for text mode
(since no tag name should ever be duplicated in the INI)

It is WAY more complicated than above... But that is a good enough answer for now.

Re: [BUG] [SOLVED!!] BSOD with Acer M5640 (nForce 630i) DP 8.05

Thank you all for replys !

First i do this evening, is to test "DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_810G.7z"
I've found the device id in this pack but i guess it wouldn't work, because the ID uses the wrong driver in the ini

i give feedback as soon as possible

Question: are the newest Packs really in http://driverpacks.sytes.net/driverpacks/Nightlies/ ?

Re: [BUG] [SOLVED!!] BSOD with Acer M5640 (nForce 630i) DP 8.05

Yes the newer test pack are at http://driverpacks.sytes.net/driverpacks/Nightlies/

Re: [BUG] [SOLVED!!] BSOD with Acer M5640 (nForce 630i) DP 8.05

810G does not work with nForce 630 at Acer M5640
I've found (i think so) a mismatch in NV-Sections of MassStorage-Pack's ini-file 810G.
The Device-ID's Subsys are not coresponding in case of two drivers needed for example in nVidia nForce 630.
I will try to find out a correct list of hwids for this cases; i guess also that the order must be correct
I try to write a complete new NV section with newest nVidia drivers available and give feedback as soon as possible

let's rock

Re: [BUG] [SOLVED!!] BSOD with Acer M5640 (nForce 630i) DP 8.05

Wolfi,

For Mass Storage v8.10 with PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_07F8&CC_0104 (Class SCSIAdapter - Desc NVIDIA nForce Serial ATA Controller) it's
located at C:\D\M\NV6\nvrd32.inf. Which doesn't help you since it's not the same.

ACPI\NVRAID20\3&267A616A&0 is not found at all. Not even ACPI\NVRAID20 within the mass storage pack.

Their just not in the MassStorage and Chipset. Searching for both based on XP x86.

Could you export your list of hardware using save_hwids.exe found in JakeLD's signature?

Generally a Subsys isn't used unless it's specifically stated in the inf file. You mostly go up to either Dev or CC.

Re: [BUG] [SOLVED!!] BSOD with Acer M5640 (nForce 630i) DP 8.05

Yeah it definitely looks like it's not in any of the Driverpacks.

Re: [BUG] [SOLVED!!] BSOD with Acer M5640 (nForce 630i) DP 8.05

Well I got the info I need so far, thank you. I will attempt to fix your issue in the next days. nVidia mess is driving everyone crazy.

Re: [BUG] [SOLVED!!] BSOD with Acer M5640 (nForce 630i) DP 8.05

Good morning all together

Did someone have time to integrate the HWID's for Acer M5640 (nForce 630) as posted here  ?
I'm waiting for and will test it immediately !

Thank you

Re: [BUG] [SOLVED!!] BSOD with Acer M5640 (nForce 630i) DP 8.05

wolfi221268, try DP - [url]http://driverpacks.sytes.net/driverpacks/Test Pack/DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_810I (NV tests only).7z[/url]

All [NVx] sections was removed, and created one universal [NV] section:

[NV]
ms_count=2
ms_1_deviceName="NVIDIA NForce Storage Controller"
ms_1_tag="nvgts"
ms_1_sysFile="nvgts.sys"
ms_1_hwids="PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0036,PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_003E,PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0054,PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0055,PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0266,PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0267,PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_036F,PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_037E,PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_037F,PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_03E7,PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_03F6,PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_03F7,PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_044C,PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0558,PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0559,PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_055A,PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_07F8,PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_07F9,PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_07FA,PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_07FB,PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0AD8,PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0AD9,PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0ABC,PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0ABD,PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0BC4,PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0BC5"
ms_1_isBusExtender=false
ms_2_deviceName="NVIDIA nForce RAID Class Controller"
ms_2_tag="nvrd32"
ms_2_sysFile="nvrd32.sys"
ms_2_hwids="SCSI\NVIDIA__Raid_Disk________,GenNvRaidDisk,SCSI\__NVIDIA_______Raid_Disk,SCSI\NVIDIA__Raid_Disk_20_____,SCSI\__NVIDIA____Raid_Disk_20,ACPI\NVRAID20,*_NVRAIDBUS,*NVRAIDBUS,*NVRAID20"
ms_2_isBusExtender=true

After integrating of driverpacks with BASE, you need to do next changes manually:

1. Extract DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_810I (NV tests only).7z to temporary folder.
2. Copy NV_PnPinterface.cmd and NV_setupreg.reg to your platform folder (in that folder must be I386 folder).
3. Start NV_PnPinterface.cmd. In setupreg.hiv in I386 folder will be added next parameter:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SETUPREG\ControlSet001\Services\nvgts\Parameters\PnpInterface]
"5"=dword:00000001

It is necessary for correct textmode setup.
4. Open textfile HIVESYS.INF in I386 folder. Add next string to section [AddReg] manually (hint: that string is in NV_hive.txt):

HKLM,"SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\nvgts\Parameters\PnpInterface","5",0x00010003,1

It is necessary for correct graphic mode setup.

Burn a disc and try. Please post all results.

This is test DP works successfully on Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe (nForce590SLI) and Gigabyte GA-M55plus-S3G v1 (nForce 430 (MCP51) ) in RAID and non-RAID modes.

Re: [BUG] [SOLVED!!] BSOD with Acer M5640 (nForce 630i) DP 8.05

IT WOOOOOOOOOOOOORKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've tested with Acer M5640 (nForce 630i with GeForce 7100) as posted first in this thread and everything works perfect !
In Device manager is also everything ok; the drivers are correct installed
Also the Eventlog is proper and the machine works perfect.

It also works perfect with Acer M1641 (nForce 620i with GeForce 7050)
Do i have to do the changes to setupreg.hiv and hivesys.inf every time , when Base was run ?
do you plan to integrate this changes to Base ?

Congratulations ! unbeliveable ! Thank you so much for this successfull storie !

You must do the changes if you want to get workable disc for your Acer Notebooks... Ideally, these changes must be used always when in inf file of driver is string like that:

HKR, "Parameters\PnpInterface", "5", %REG_DWORD%, 0x00000001

What about Base, all depends from Base programmers I guess...

It definately needs to be addressed...
I will figure something out...

Re: [BUG] [SOLVED!!] BSOD with Acer M5640 (nForce 630i) DP 8.05

Currently for OfflineSysPrep and the mass storage script of LiveXP I'm using a "hotfix" solution: if "nvgts" exists in the driver's name, then the PnpInterface registry entry is added.

Galapo.
