Topic: Is this file necessary?

Is the file ax88140.sys necessary in DP_LAN_wnt5_x86-32_8053\D\L\AS3?
There's no SourceDiskFiles section but its included in [AX88140.CopyFiles] section in the file ax88140.inf
And Driver Compressor leaves the file ax88140.sys
Is this file unnecessary or is it a bug with Driver Compressor?

welcome to DriverPacks.
We think there is no perfect automated tool.
I bet that when we leave this sys file out there are some reg entries for PnP calls getting a null.
There are a good many INF where you would see very few HWIDS and calls, and the driver has a baker's dozen of INI.
The INF and the INI are looked at and I see an INI call another INI.

in one of those, I see that file mentioned.

I see a sys.
I look up reference in txt
aha, in that ini and in there too.
I don't scrubbit.

Also, just because a file isn't referenced in the sourcediskfiles section, doesn't mean it's not needed.  Sometimes that file may be called by an .exe (the .exe may be referenced) during install.
This is poor QA on the vendors part.

take a look at chipset - most of the inf's do not include a copy file wink

Probabaly.

.SYS and .INF files are the most fundamental files in a driver.
It's strange that it is not referenced in the .INF, but if no other .SYS file is, it has to be the driver file.
