Topic: SigmaTel STAC9205

I searched and found no answers.  I've used the latest driver packs for sound from the site, in addition I've manually tried all the drivers below.  I am trying to get this to work on a Gateway M-151X laptop running Windows XP.  I'm at a loss, don't want to really put Vista back on here, have 3 laptops identical to this.  Advice?

I also tried using DriverGenius to backup the Vista drivers themselves and then restore them on the XP as a last ditch effort - but that didn't work.

Gateway doesn't have any Audio Drivers for this on their site.  If you need more details let me know.  Thanks in advance for any insight you can give me!

Oh, also - I put this in Software because it's a driver, but if it is more appropriate in Hardware please don't hesitate to move!

we'll need the HWID for that sound chip
(you can run the HWID tool in one of these laptops, and copy the relevant txt to an USB stick.)

OverFlow, should I add the KB888111 patch to my slipstreamed disc?  If I understand the patch, it basically allows Windows to properly recognize the audio?

Edit: I lost my train of thought mid sentence and had to fix it.

if you use DriverPacks base to add the packs this should have been done for you...

if you are useing xp slipstreamed with SP3 this is included with sp3...

since you did not tell us what you did or give any details i can not give you a good answer.
(always provide good details see read before you post in my signature and tell us how you did it)

what i am sure of is HDA is a microsoft patch and not a driver...

  I'm downloading the stand alone SP3 package now, the disc I used was an SP2 based disc.

  Apologize, must have mised the topic, in all caps no less.  I'll reburn a version with SP3 this afternoon and post the applicable logs.  When I did it with SP2, I did update to the latest Driver Packs prior to creating the image: Sound A/B 8.05.

  I'll post with updated results once I have SP3 done.  Thanks again for your help!

Well, still no audio.  It did get all the audio drivers in, however device manager says:

hi m8 i got this driver to work on the same laptop as yours i had to force xp to use it and dident run the setup but it has bean stable for a few weeks now so my customer tells me

Andy, I tried the first link - the setup.exe did not work either, and so I loaded up device manager and pointed the IDT device to update to the driver that was extracted, rebooted per the prompts and still did not work hmm  Still have a yellow ! mark on the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC.

I tried the Sony link in abdou's post (ftp://ftp.vaio.sony.co.jp/pub/vaio/down … 005-UN.exe), rebooted - and still...no luck!

This morning I used the same build I posted as above on another Gateway laptop (NX570x - however) and STILL I had to go to the Gateway website and then be referred to MCP Support and download the Audio Drivers from MCP before Audio worked on the earlier, BUILT FOR XP branded Laptop.

I think Gateway just has it out for DriverPacks!

Any other suggestions/thoughts/direction?  Would appreciate it!

Laptops quite frequently will only work if installed with the OEM providers drivers.

We extensively use reference drivers
what if we had to use every individual nvidia manufacturers drivers in the packs  (they would be twenty times the current size)

the problem is Laptop manuracturers will normaly drasticaly mod thier chips (to reduce power consuption or heat... wahtever)

the best solution is to make a 3rd party DriverPack that includes your specific laptops driver.

it is the manufacurers fault / error if a given device will not run a reference driver correctly.
if we tried to support every laptop available then our packs would be ten gig instead of 300meg 

Laptops are a PITA i suggest that you create a 3rd party DriverPack for this driver and call it a day.
If we get a lot of requests for this particular one it may eventually end up in a main pack.
that is not likely because it will then cause conflicts / issues for the drivers that we do include.

if you are able to figure out why the included (reference) driver fails we may be able to make an exception in our packs to address it. IE there is a setup.exe that runs in addition to the driver that will make the reference driver work.
then we could test to see if it is needed and run it. wink

you will need to tell us since we don't have this laptop ourselves to play with...

Oh believe me, I am in no way blaming DriverPacks - I have had no issues with the current build I have on any of the desktops I've used it on.  It worked fine on a recent Dell laptop, I just think Gateway has it out for me personally wink

I will look through the 3rd Party sections on the forums and see if there might be something that matches up - from the searches I did of the forum I didn't find anything offhand.  It is just finding the driver that will work to begin with...I even used Driver Genius to backup the Vista sound drivers and then attempted to Restore them in the XP environment as a "last ditch effort" - but that still did not work.

As far as you helping me is there any other direction you could suggest to me to attack this from?

but i was under the impression you already had one that did work for you.

hi m8 strang the driver i used dident work for you you may have some small difference in hardware try going to www.driveragent.com and run the free driver update scan this may give you options for alternat driver to download but the bad part is you have to join and pay to get them but you can see what it lists and search google for them or past the link here and i will download for you and email them to you as i have a paid membership from work

When I looked at the HWIDs I saw two sound HWID lines.
the first one almost at the top.

and then this one.

the ATI graphics drivers have HDMI (w/i sound for TV out?).
I had some trouble installing ATI HDMI drivers not too long ago and now think of it as a problematic installer.

the other is intel's.
We had some issues with IDT in the past.. sad

Thank god there is no modem in there.
