I wish you had posted that yesterday.
I know Vier is a gifted and accurate poster.
(I wish I could write French beyond cela est une baguette.. parle come une pie.. euh. je parle comme le vache.. euh.. LA vache qui rir.)
LOL.
Vier, we have a bunch of French speaking posters with little skill in English, and I think we really need your help here.
You know I am Flemish. You also know I try my best.
We need people with your skills more than ever.
Hello,
I own an Asus X53S laptop and had a problem with its Ethernet device, an "Attansic/Atheros L1 Gigabit Ethernet 10/100/1000Base-T". The device is correctly detected, but the system works only with the device disabled: if enabled the system will freeze. After rebooting the system hangs during start up when the XP logo appears. The device may be disabled by logging in Safe Mode.
I have used the version of the drivers you mentioned and it worked, it fixed the Windows freezing at start up problem.
Why did you wrote version "2.3.7.9" while linked the "2.4.7.11" one?
When will they be included in the official DriverPack LAN? The version currently present in the pack is surely not working, replacing it promptly might save people a lot of trouble.

New test pack should resolve your issue:
@ krige
You will have to report a positive or negative.
We have to see (more than one) positives with logs before we will make new releases.
The file is 2.4.7.11 for Vista. But file for XP is 2.3.7.9 in inf file !
This issue exist for many motherboard/hardware from Asus (P5K ...)
Thanks Jaak

You will have to report a positive or negative.
I report that the "Attansic L1 driver" currently present in the DriverPack LAN caused Windows to freeze at startup in my system (an Asus X53S laptop) and that the one which Vier reported (2.3.7.9) works fine.
The file is 2.4.7.11 for Vista. But file for XP is 2.3.7.9 in inf file
Thanks for the explanation :-)
hi Krige,
It seems you missed the link to the new LAN ((testpack)) which includes the driver.
See this post..

Hi Jaak, I didn't miss it but I have been known about it only after I have already tried the driver mentioned by Vier on the first post. So I can't report a positive on the new testpack yet but I can report a negative on the current "DriverPack LAN".
How often are the official driver packs updated? Am I supposed to use always the testpacks?

if the main packs fail and you see a post that is related and has a test pack then it's probably a good idea to try it.
if you find that a device is not included and there is a post from someone else about that device then it's probably a good idea to try it.
It is great! that you are haveing the same issue... If the testpack fixes it for both of you it will be considered a valid fix. Please report back if it works (or not) for you.
Thanks for posting... it does help a great deal.
Packs are released when neccessary...
It is our goal to support all hardware and be stable and reliable.
We like to try to stay current too... but that takes a back seat to stability.
so
1 support all PC hardware
(although laptop support is growing)
2 cause no issues
3 stay current
Welcome to DriverPacks krige thanks for being here
Thanks for the explanation OverFlow
Is there a list of contents for the DriverPacks, either of the official or the test ones?
http://driverpacks.net/DriverPacks/overview.php click on each changelog link.
the testpacks changelogs are in the testing team forum, and is hidden if you are not on the testing team
We have also adopted the habit of including a "changelog' txt in testpacks because when there is than one team member working on a pack, he can see what was done to the latest testpack he downloaded and does not have to duplicate work.
(To work on it it has to unzipped and having the changelog in the testpack makes it easier to check what was done, without having to look up the topic.).
@ krige.
Of course we wanted you to try the testpack we linked to, because the driver you and vier requested got included.
That's another one of the things we also do. We let the person with the REQuest test the testpack even when they are not on testing team..
When you think about this you can see this makes sense.

I think that's good for the users too, so that they can see when a driver has been already included and don't need to post a request.

Sure it does, I will try it as soon as possible, probably next week-end.
So far I have used only nLite to include the drivers into the installation disk. Do you instead suggest to use it only to create the iso and then add the drivers to it using DriverPacks BASE? If yes, why do you recommend this procedure?
because nLite cannot slipstream all DriverPacks.
DriverPacks BASE was written to do that, and DriverPacks BASE will include the tools to handle exceptions specifically written in DriverPacks INI files so as to install some CPL, but exceptions also take care that drivers not meant for a specific OS do not get slipped into the wrong OS.. stuff like that.
(That bug could be solved now, but very long ago I tried nLite to slip all DriverPacks, and I got a txtfile like dosnet.inf or txtsetup.sif of over one GIGABYTE.. it had quite clearly choked on the massive amount of INFs...)
after DriverPacks BASE is used on a nLited/RVM'd source, you can build an ISO..
(( OH, you ought to read the now ''outdated" tutorial. It appears it only has info on base 705.2 but when you read it you will see there is a treasure of background and tips.. see signature .))

I'd like to report that I tested the LAN drivers testpack using a slipstream installation disk created using nLite and DriverPacks BASE and it worked perfectly on my device, an "Attansic/Atheros L1 Gigabit Ethernet 10/100/1000Base-T".
Thanks.
I am looking at the LAN pack again. (did a new HWIDs readout and looking at requests.)
With 2.3.7.9 (DP 8.06B) problem on the Asus P5b-E and Asus P5K - Windows no start! and normal works only with new drivers - AtherosL1_LAN_v2474.zip (http://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/lan/At … _v2474.zip)

Sam I'm lost here.
krige and vier reported that the new driver was working fine. The driver your asking for is old too. The one in the pack is 12/20/2007,2.3.7.9, the one in your link is 08/30/2007,2.3.7.4. (2.4.7.4 = vista version number).
So if the last one available from the manufacturer is not fixing the issue, I guess the last version could be problematic with some mobo and same thing for the one before that. Attansic/Atheros must fix their mess.
On 3 PC!!! with different motherboard of Asus this driver - http://dlsvr02.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/soc … 86_x64.rar (on the page http://support.asus.com/download/downlo … model=P5K) works fine! but driver in the LAN 8.06 don't work!
2.3.7.9 on Attansic L1:
Crappy system slows down, barely moving mouse - Wait produced no results. After restarting OS is not loaded (as well at some stage begins to stall, you can watch as slowly strips appear downloads).
Tried with different versions of drivers. The result is identical.
