Topic: Downgrading to xp from vista

Hi i am new to this website and i am new to all drivers etc. I have an Hp Pavilion Media Centre Pc and i got vista preinstalled with it. I want to downgrade it to xp and i tried doing it once but i ended up screwing up and had to use my recovery cds to reinstall vista cause i couldnt boot it up to xp or vista. I have an SATA hard drive and i have no floppy drive on my pc. My motherboard is asus L5BW-LA and on the asus website i cant find that model number. It looks like the motherboard is specially made for hp pcs. How can i find the drivers and how do i put it into my windows xp cd? Can someone help me please cause vista is really annoying and is too slow. Help would be really appreciated. Thanks

Re: Downgrading to xp from vista

is there any way i can find out what drivers i really need? i downloaded all the driver packs from the website but i dont know which ones are the ones i need

Re: Downgrading to xp from vista

the driverpacks are meant to be added to your windows installation media with DPs_Base.
That is what you should do with the packs - link to the tutorial in my sig.

if you use the HWID tool in my signature it will tell you which hardware you have
you could then search the infs in the packs for matching IDs. I don't recomend this.

you could also use the dpinst tool included in base.
or you could use this method http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=2264
or this one http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic. … 03&p=1

Re: Downgrading to xp from vista

ok so i am assuming that if i follow ur DP base tutorial with the drivers pack its gonna work if i do it properly? Are the drivers in the driverpack all the drivers i need for my installation for xp in an sata hard drive? I am going to try doing the DriverPacks tutorial.

Re: Downgrading to xp from vista

i got an error message saying that si3112r.sys could not be found. Press any key to restart your computer. I am not sure why that happened. I followd ur DPs_Base information step by step.

Re: Downgrading to xp from vista

Hi,
you must have been using DriverPacks BASE 7.05.2 with QSC OFF.

if you can hold your breath for twelve hours, we'll provide a new version with a new intel, and I will check what si3112r.sys does with the old base (QSC ON and OFF), and in the new base RC.

I used to recommend people turn QSC ON in Base705.2 in both Method 2 and 1 for a things like that.

Re: Downgrading to xp from vista

ok sure ive got all the time to wait. I just wanna install xp somehow and ive got all the patience. Yea i think i put the QSC off cause on the DP Base Tutorial it said for Method 2 put QSC is off so thats what i did. I tried running it on a virtual pc as you recommended to test the iso which i made with nLite. I didnt burn it on a CD yet. Thanks

Re: Downgrading to xp from vista

"Now we are cooking with Grease!" wink

Excellent, good work...

Re: Downgrading to xp from vista

Sorry, what do u mean? I tried that same CD before without DriverPacks first and it worked normally in virtual pc and after i install the driverpacks it seems to give me that error sad Any clue why?

Re: Downgrading to xp from vista

Did you use nlite on your files before you used driverpacks?

DriverPacks must always be the last step in your process of making your disk / ISO.

is the file in the I386 folder ("I386\si3112r.sy_") - can you open it with 7zip or winrar?

try the newer version of base i posted on the home page -
that won't hurt, and there's a very small chance it may help

Re: Downgrading to xp from vista

but how would i use nlite first? Dont u have to use ur DP Base to put the drivers into the windows xp folder and then i take that folder and use it with nlite to burn it into a cd right?

OHHHHHH wait..... are you trying to say that i am supposed to make a bootable CD with nlite first and then put the files using DriverPacks?????????!!!!!!!

Re: Downgrading to xp from vista

No..
don't get confused.
DriverPacks BASE cannot slipstream an ISO.

You can first use RVM and nLite, then stream DriverPacks, and then you can use nLite (or RVM) to make an ISO if you need to make a bootable ISO.

Re: Downgrading to xp from vista

ok i am going to try this once more and gonna see if i find any errors. I have the origial Windows Xp Professional Disc without any Service packs and i am trying it on that.

Re: Downgrading to xp from vista

Dang i dont think its working. Now i am getting another error sad ""The following value in the .SIF file used by Setup is corrupted or missing: Value 0 on the line in section with key mfplat.dll.... I guess i have to try again :'(

Re: Downgrading to xp from vista

Hi

PRO "gold", eh?
If this is an english language version, you can first slipstream Service Pack 3 into this.
Then make a copy of that SP3 streamed source, and then work on the SP3 copy.

Jeff mentioned the release candidate for DriverPacks BASE.
This works on SP1, SP2, SP3, and has much better cleanup, and I have NO sil3112r issues with that (I know QSC related errors have been worked on in that RC.)

HUH?

I would like to see your DriverPacks BASE log.

Re: Downgrading to xp from vista

oh so i just downloaded the sp3. I am going to slipstream it and then try to use the DriverPacks and see if there is any change. I will also try putting the QSC on for method 2.

Re: Downgrading to xp from vista

After you post the log, please do not try fix a source that has such weird errors.
Please Start fresh.
Make a clean fresh copy of the CD, and tell us about each important thing you do to it, and in what order.

good.
clean gold to sp3, and keep a copy of that for later.

((EDIT; mfplat.dll seems to be part of a media player hotfix you added.))

Re: Downgrading to xp from vista

yea i am doing that all the time. After every try i fail, i made a new copy of the disc folder and start over again. Oh and thanks for telling me the mfplat.dll. I tried adding windows media player 11 with the media player integrator and i guess it failed sad. Guess i am deleting that for now cause i want to avoid as much as errors possible right now smile

Re: Downgrading to xp from vista

Oh and thank you soo much for actually taking time to read through my problems. I really appreciate it.

I dont know why but after slipstreaming it with sp3 its giving me the warning - Could not slipstream KB888111 because Service Pack 1 or 2 isnt slipstreamed. This happened when i was on the final step of slipstreaming with the DriverPacks Base program. I am taking this as not such a big deal. Its not gonna cause any problems right?

Re: Downgrading to xp from vista

Base ersion 7.52 does not include suport for SP3 (as it was not out at the time that was released).

the version of base that supports sp3 is here http://dev.driverpacks.thesneaky.com/dr … 0417RC.exe

to be clear use Nlite to add sp3 and to automate your install. then add DriverPacks
then return to nlite and create your ISO (but dont make any more changes to the files or setup - go straight to create ISO) .

Re: Downgrading to xp from vista

yes i got it working on the virtual pc with all the driver packs into 1 cd but i am still worried about some stuff. Do i have to format my whole hard drive to install xp or is it going to be ok if i partition my hard drive for xp and then try installing xp on it? I have a Samsung 400 GB SATA hard drive and the previous time i tried installing it with a normal windows xp cd without any driver packs installed and stuff ( the original windows xp cd with service pack 2) on top of vista, it copied all the xp files onto the xp partition and then it never booted up or loaded the xp files so basically i couldnt go to vista or xp because none booted up and i had to do a full system recovery. So is there any chance of the same thing happening? Thanks.
