Topic: [REQ] hwid fix

Hello everyone,

I have some problems with the sound packs that do not seems to be fixed yet. The first one is for a Asus P5PE-VM motherboard I have reported this before it used to just blue screen with the portcls.sys error now the install works but it's using the wrong drivers it's installing the Vinyl AC'97 sound drivers and should be using the Soundmax drivers. Here are the HWIDS

Re: [REQ] hwid fix

hi Dolivas,

fixing this will not be easy.
We've found duplicated generic HWIDS across ALi, C-media, sigmatel and analog devices.
(different chips for which one finds drivers with SAME manufactor generic HWID.. aargh.)

I'll start work on this after acronis finishes cloning my systemdrive(s*) in the new rig.
(* the intel RAID tools told me one of the RAID member drives has an error. I had to do a surface scan/fix before cloning could be succesful.)

I already sent excell worksheets to team members, so they also know where the problems are.
We want to avoid duplicated work too, but at the moment I cannot use my machine to get in contact.
Anyway, we will look into it.

The answer was 42?
Kind regards, Jaak.

Re: [REQ] hwid fix

Hi Jaak,

Thanks for taking the time to look at this I noticed you just updated the Sound B test pack in the beta section is this to try and fix the problem I am having or for some thing else? I have the Asus P5PE-VM motherboard here to test it on and I also have the Intel motherboard but that will be getting sent out to my brother tomorrow so if this is a test pack for that board also I will run a quick test on it this evening. Please let me know ASAP if the new Sound B test pack is for the problems I am having.

Thanks,
dolivas

Re: [REQ] hwid fix

hi,
yes, I worked about 14 hours on this one, because duplicate HWIDs cause trouble.
Oh, I have done some more checks after I uploaded, reran the tools I used to collect the HWIDs, and found that I had forgotten to delete a folder.
The corrected "beta" is uploading right now.

A large number of duplicated HWIDs were removed.
For instance; CR\6 and CR\7  had huge overlap.
A Folder compare tool tells me that about fifty INF files have had HWIDs pruned from them.
Some drivers have more than one INF file, and a few of those INF files became totally obsolete (no unique HWIDs) so they were deleted.

Some drivers were completely covered by other newer drivers, and were removed.
I made notes, and also have my Excell worksheet.
A rough count tells me I pruned about 900 duplicated HWIDs out of the pack.
(about One Fifth of the total HWIDs, that is.)

Let's hope this work was not in vain.

Re: [REQ] hwid fix

Jaak,

Ok I tested the pack on the Asus P5PE-VM motherboard and it is still installing the wrong drivers. So I decide to do some research on the HWID for this motherboard the HWID is listed as  PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24D5&SUBSYS_82271043&REV_02\3&267A616A&0&FD I assume that the only part that is important is PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24D5&SUBSYS_82271043 I checked all the INF files in the pack and I do not find that HWID list in any of the INF files so I started to remove numbers until I found a match and I had to take the HWID down to this PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24D5&SUBSYS_8 before I found a match I found a bunch with that ID and they were all AC97 drivers. So the question I have is if an exact match is not found would it do what I did with the HWID and find the closes match and select it? Now what do we need to do to get the HWID added to the pack? Here is a link to the sound driver from Asus http://dlsvr03.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/soc … Q1Camr.zip  I did not get a chance to test the Intel board but I did search the INF files and I only found 1 reference to it. I am going to keep the board and extra day so I can check this pack on it I will report back later on that one.

Ok I have another question I was just looking at the INF file from Asus and trying to figure out where it should go in the the pack and I think is belongs in the D\S\SM\A\3 directory but what is the extra folder in that directory? There is a O folder in there and that is the only directory like that should that folder be there?

Thanks again for the help,
dolivas

Re: [REQ] hwid fix

Jaak, I have downloaded all SoundMax drivers for Asus motherboards from official site. I almost prepared my smax release for asus MoBo's, but I'm afraid you doing too many changes with SM Driverpack. I think it seems to be better if I upload all my work to ftp and I give a possibility to release smax driverpack yourself, and you?

I looked at that one too. It must have been an O for OLD, but the driver in there is the newer.
The changelog might shed a light.

@ debugger.
we can do just like last time.
(it will save connection time on the 56K modem..)
Upload the additions to FTP, and let us put them in the Pack for you.
We'll then put the Pack up for test (big upload), and later publish (another big upload).

@ Jaak
I looked at the HWID's in the O folder and they are the ones missing for the other Asus board I reported to you. Here is what I did. I copied the files in the O folder to and new folder D\S\SM\A\8 because if you look at the HWID's cover in the O folder you will see they are not covered any where else in the pack. I then updated the D\S\SM\A\3 folder with the drivers I sent you from Asus and it covers the HWID's I was missing for the first Asus motherboard (P5PE-VM) and was newer then what was in the D\S\SM\A\3 directory. I am going to test it right now and will get back to you let me know what you are doing on your end.

Thanks,

Re: [REQ] hwid fix

Hi,
access login and password was changed a good while ago, and the details are in a sticky.
I believe donors have access to that forum with the sticky.

The answer was 42?
Kind regards, Jaak.

Hi Jaak The only ftp login info I am finding is in the 3rd party forum what forum in the stick you are talking about in? I looked in the testing team forum and did not see it there unless I missed it.

Thanks,

Re: [REQ] hwid fix

Check your mail dolivas.

Re: [REQ] hwid fix

hi
30 folders, 15 was empty

work done so far was to find duplicates in those 29.
At the moment, folder 12 and 14 got a merge into 14.
(the smwdmCH5 INF in 14 was kept, the other INFs from 12 were added, and the 12's cat was renamed. The systemfiles are same.).

After this preliminary work, I have 11 folders left.
04 / 07 / 14 (with the added INFs and CAT from 12)  / 16 / 17 / 22 / 23 / 24 / 25 / 28 / 30

typo, I missed 25 in the 11 folders.

Re: [REQ] hwid fix

Jaak WOW excellent work I just download the info that Debugger posted but it looks like I should just wait for you to finish. Let me know when you are ready with a test pack and I will try it out on the two Asus boards I have here and thanks for the work on this. Also what are you using to find all the duplicates in the inf files I have really crewed way that I am using but it takes for ever to find them all.

Re: [REQ] hwid fix

We are using Araxis Merge, it's the best software to compare files. You can use Dupli Find to find duplicates within the same file. I also suggest you use something else than notepad, notepad2 or notepadd++ works great.

Re: [REQ] hwid fix

Thanks JakeLD I will take a look at it I was using Notepad++ and it seemed to work well at finding the dups.

Re: [REQ] hwid fix

Jaak, I got such results too. But I decided to leave all work to professionals wink

Re: [REQ] hwid fix

Hi
the spotlight utility helps a lot too.
I must say Debugger documented the folders quite nicely, and the information will come in handy when the time comes to write the supported device list.
And he mentioned sub-sub-version info, which is only found by looking at the bottom of those files. smile

The answer was 42?
Kind regards, Jaak.

Re: [REQ] hwid fix

14 and 12 no longer merged
14 gone

after putting them in the sound_B excell sheet and looking at dupes, I have those folders left.
12 / 17 / 23 / 25 / 30

see you tomorrow

Re: [REQ] hwid fix

Jaak, to prevent of double work, I decided to warn about my plans to continue a work with SoundMax in Asus notebooks, barebones and desktops.

EDIT:

And how about 1-10 HDA folders?
