Topic: [REQ] Audio driver for Dell GX740

I would like to request that the audio driver for the Dell GX740 be included in the sound driverpack. I have already made my own small driverpack for it, but it would be more conveinent if it was in the main packs. According to the Dell website this driver will also add support for the Dimension C521, and E521 along with the GX740. I'm pretty sure that this driver should be pretty easy to add. I haven't had any problems with it myself.
DP_Audio_GX740 v5.10.0.5143, A09

Here's a link to the offical driver from dell.

We need the HWID, use the tool in my sig and post it here.

Re: [REQ] Audio driver for Dell GX740

Jake,
update folder 3 with that one.
the old HWIDs are in there as well.

The answer was 42?
Kind regards, Jaak.

Re: [REQ] Audio driver for Dell GX740

Good catch, as far as I can tell the version I have is simply a newer version with more hardware support than the one currently in the driverpacks.

Would it be possible to update this in the driverpacks? As a short term solution I made my own driverpack with the files that I posted a link to in the original post. I've been using these quite a bit for about a month and have had 0 issues with more than 30 installs. Of course if it needs some more testing I can do that as well.

Is it possible to delete the files that were only in the version contained in the driverpacks? I'm not sure if this would break compatability in some way.

Re: [REQ] Audio driver for Dell GX740

I'm on it.

Try this and let us know if it worked or not.

Yes, one can edit DriverPacks.
One can replace a folder with an updated version, and one can delete folders and add folders.

The drivers which need special attention (to install control panels, etc) have a section in the DriverPacks INI files, and after making changes to the DriverPack one has to include the INI in the DPxxx.7z.
(Not all DriverPacks have an INI.)
When one adds folders to Sound or Graphics, which have been split up, then you must really pay attention because the folder could already be used in another part of the split pack.
When you recompress, you should not combine the split packs into one, because split packs have their own INI.
(Well... One can if one really wants it. The 7z size would be a little less than the sum of the parts.)

Mass storage is a special driverPack.
Every TM driver has a section in the INI, which is used for TXTmode.
If you were to add a driver in a new folder and do not write an INI section for it, then it will not be used during TXTmode but it is available for PnP at a later stage.
Writing an INI section requires that you know what you are doing.
TXTmode is unforgiving.  A small error can render a driver useless, or make slipstream fail, or cause a BSOD..)
(I know I made several small errors. They always get found by members if they were not caught during testing.)

I guess what I was really meaning here was if I was to add the driver I have to the same folder as the one in the current DriverPacks if it would cause any problems. I understand that the folders and files can in most cases be deleted without any problems. I was just checking to make sure that there wasn't some special reason for the older version of the driver being in the DriverPacks. Fortunately the install for the Sigmatel audio drivers is relatively simple.

Re: [REQ] Audio driver for Dell GX740

Sorry about the delay, I had an extra busy week.

Alright so I tried the driverpack that you posted and it did not work on the computer. I looked at the Device manager immedietly after the install and under system devices the one called "Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio" was showing that it's drivers did not install correctly. All I had to do was click the reinstall drivers button and it would install correctly. I'm not absolutely sure if this is a problem with the driverpack or if something happend to the kb888111 patch that I slipstreamed.

Re: [REQ] Audio driver for Dell GX740

Hi

DPsBase will slipstream KB888111 if it detects it was not yet slipstreamed by RVM.
You say you slipstreamed it yourself?
How?

Can you look at SVCPACK.IN_ in the i386 folder? uncab it, and look at it in an editor.
If svcpack.INF can be read and mentions the KB, it ought to be well?

I used the /slipstream switch with the installer. I know that this patch is supposed to be included in the RVM update pack but i was having issues with it not working correctly, if at all.

I checked the SVCPACK.IN_ (mine was actually SVCPACK.INF, but that shouldn't make a difference) and it is indeed mentioned there, and the file that it references in the SVCPACK folder is there.

There's also alot of other files in the SVCPACK folder but they all seem to be related to the RVM update pack.

Re: [REQ] Audio driver for Dell GX740

This morning I tried using the newer driverpack that you wanted me to test on a laptop with the same sound card. The install would lock up whenever I included the newer version. Unfortunately I cannot get any useful information from the crash since it completely locks up the comptuer. I will post the HWID's for the laptop tomorrow morning.

I gave it a shot today, and I'm having the same weird issues with the HDAaudio bus not completely isntalling. To help remedy this I have been running the following command on the first boot into windows.

RunDll32.exe Syssetup.dll,UpdatePnpDeviceDrivers

Then I run the driverpacks finisher after another reboot.

This works ok, except that it prompts me for the hdaaudio.sys file. I'm not sure why it is prompting me for this because I checked and the file is already in C:\windows\system32\drivers\hdaaudio.sys. If I select the previously mentioned file the rest of the install goes great and I get audio.

I'm completely bewildered as to why this is happening. I have tried this on a freshly created install with the ryanvm update pack + wmp11 + DriverPacks. Nothing really special done to the install other than that.
