Hi All,

I have to start by saying that the driver packs are awesome and they are very much appreciated.  Thanks to all guys working on them.

I develop SOE's for my work in the education sector and I have a new laptop that I need to get working with my standard unatttended install. Its a Acer TravelMate 6292

Seems this machine fails on the mass storage text based driver part. Can I suggest that this driver be included in the new release.

hmmm.
VEN_8086&DEV_2850 is not in any of our drivers?

We will want the driver, please provide a link.

mr_smartepants is right, SOE stands for "Standard Operating Environment"

Hi,

I will look at the chipset driver you linked to, and got the mass storage "setup" file for this machine as well

I cannot extract the files.
(my machine has a newer set than this, and it does not have the HWID.)
It won't extract in VirtualPC either. sad

I need iastor.inf iastor.sys iastor.cat iaahci.inf and iaahci.cat from you.
Use rapidshare or something..

this was a version I never had, and it did not have "2850"

I looked better, and VEN_8086&DEV_2850 was found in chipset DP.
"2829" is is the mass storage DP, so that should work.

VEN_8086&DEV_2815 is also in chipset DP, so that should work as well.

Hi Jaak,

Thanks for looking at this for me. I guess I'll just have to reject this Acer model from our suppliers until a solution is found.

Just for interest sake, I downloaded the mass storage and chipset driverpacks again last night and set up my unattended install. Worked on all the other hardware I tested it on from HP, to toshiba to desktop acers however I now get a KBDUS.DLL error with the Acer TravelMate 6292 laptop when it starts copying the setup files in the text mode.  The error indicates a problem with permissions however I believe its caused by an incorrect driver being loaded for the mass stoarge device.

Hi Jamie,

you should be aware it is possible to modify mass storage to your needs.
Yesterday I did a small update to the released version, since I had discovered I made some errors in INI code for exception handling.
(some exceptions I had written for windows 2003 drivers had errors.)

I have been trying to make things work as well as they can for DISC based installations, and know that sysprep users require unique "everything".
Unique "everything" cannot be done by the "simple" tagname trick we do for DISC based install, and when two systemfiles /INF files have same name, the sysprep user has a problem.

I could make a personalised mass storage pack for you, with the driver you put on rapidshare, and if that one works, we at least find out that the driver for this acer is NOT standard.
(a subrevision, subversion, with a system file written for the OEM.)

Hi

I looked at the drivers supplied by ACER, and the current DriverPacks should support this.

the ahci driver we have for this PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2829 HWID is newer.
(txtmode drivers in Acer download do not have subrevisions either.)

when you make a CD, include mass storage, chipsets, and for god's sake, turn QSC ON.

you never mentioned this, but, if these laptops had VISTA pre-installed, and you want XP on them, then there could be a problem..

HI Jaak,

Thanks for the information. Yes these laptops came with VISTA pre installed, actually in Australia its nearly impossible to get a new piece of hardware shipped with XP, its all VISTA. Problem is the University I work for are not in a position to move to VISTA yet and therefore all new machines must be re configured with XP. I have decieded to reject that acer model anyway, so it hopefully want be a problem for me.

I see updated driver packs have been released, that should hopefully fixed the majority of problems I was having any way.

Just a quick question are you guys going to start creating driverpacks for VISTA?

No vista so far, the dp base has not been updated in the last 5 months, untill we get an updated version all we can do is add/update and fix the driver packs.

Well I tried the new driver packs (mass storage, chipset, sound A+B, graphic A+B) and had success with the Acer TravelMate 6292.
