Hi....

Just thought I would let you know I tried DP_Input_wnt5_x86-32_070905.7z on a Dell Latitude D505 laptop and had problems. My OS is created thusly:

* XP with SP2 and RyanVM PostSP2 pack integrated with nLite
* All latest driverpacks and 3rd party driverpacks integrated with DPs_BASE.EXE

On first reboot after mini-setup I get a Hardware Detection Wizard window telling me that it had detected the touchpad, but it said that it couldn't install the driver and that 'The Driver is not intended for this platform'.

If I just click cancel, the install finishes and I get to the XP login prompt.......at this point the mouse/touchpad actually works, as long as I don't press any keys on the keyboard......as soon as I try to type anything (such as the password to login) both the mouse AND the keyboard just freeze. Obviously this means the machine is useless since I can never login.

I never had this problem with prior versions of this pack, and I am now back using the driverpack I had been using until now (DP_Input_wnt5_x86-32_070113.7z) and its all working fine again.

If there is any further info I can provide to help solve this please let me know.

Since rebuilding with all the latest packs few days ago I am getting instant BSOD/reboot with Lattitude D430, D810, GX745 (and probably everything else), I don't know what pack causing it though
update * please ignore this, its a bug in Winimage , when you drag and drop files into the .ima file and save, sometimes the save doesn't take, which casused this problem as sysprep was then missing the mass storage section!

I did not touch the DELL drivers but I will take a look into it maybe a file called in the inf is missing. Can you guys provide me the HWIDs list ?? Maybe I won't need it but still it could helps.

I used the Alps driver from dell website for Latitude D505. I noticed they were newer than the ones in A\1. Maybe it's the cause of your issue. If it still doesn't work, it's because one HWID is in both drivers (A\1 and A\2). Try to remove the A\2 folder then and rebuild your CD. Plz give feedback so I can find a solution. I will edit the inf if I need to.

Btw, the save_hwids.exe script wont work in this case because the mouse drivers for touchpad are under HAL. Can you open cmd and type "devcon find * > c:\HWIDs.txt" ?? Make sure you have devcon.exe in your C: folder as well.  Then post the results here and I would be able to identify the HWID.

Hi....

I tried the new pack, but I still had the same problem. I haven't yet tried removing the directory you suggest. Before I do that, I thought I should tell you that I am seeing a similar problem on a Dell Optiplex GX620. In this case, the keyboard remains active (unlike the Latitude D505).....only the mouse (an optical USB wheel mouse) is frozen. Also in Control Panal -> System -> Device Manager, an Optical USB mouse appears under HID devices but the properties of the device say no driver is installed.

I have posted the output of 'devcon find *' for the Latitude D505 and Optiplex GX620 below.....

i`ve tested DP Input 70905 on VMWare Virtual Machine  6...
i have Logitech MX 700 mouse
and after detecting the mouse the system hangs
there were no such problem on 70903

cwbshaw, open Properties of your problem device in Device Manager, please. Click on details in properties window. You'll see hardware ID of your touchpad. Post it in this topic. Do it on both your Dell laptops, it's be more easy to find correct touchpad drivers.

c400, do a same in properties window of your Logitech mouse, please. Post hardware ID here.

My Gateway laptop uses the Synaptics TouchPad Driver found at the link at the bottem of my post.  I saw this pack had a generic Synaptics driver so I figured I'd be ok, but for whatever reason it tries to install the Logitech SetPoint Driver from C:\d\3\in\l\s instead of the Synaptics driver.   I'll post my hwids when I get the correct driver loaded.  Thanks for your time guys and keep up the good work.

It also broke my laptops keyboard.  I plugged in a USB keyboard and mouse just so I could function, but I loaded the Synaptics driver off of Gateway's site, and then had to manually set the unknown device under keyboards to the Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard before that would function again.  When doing that I received a warning saying that the keyboard driver was also connected to the Mouse or something, but I continued anyways and then both were working.  I tried running the save_hwids.exe on my laptop and my desktop and it only showed the PCI Devices and the USB Devices.  So I went to device manger and found the following ids.

Keyboard

ACPI\PNP0303\4&1D6F7EAE&0 : Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural Keyboard

Touchpad
ACPI\PNP0F13\4&1D6F7EAE&0 : Synaptics PS/2 Pointing Device

Hope this helps in troubleshooting.

JakeLD, many of touchpad drivers have a same hwid - ACPI\PNP0303... Therefore Windows installs a random driver... Can be it is necessary to delete common hwid in driver's infs?

Yes, i'm pretty sure it's the issue. The thing is almost all drivers use that specific HWID so many INF needs to be edited. Plus I think windows drivers can handle ACPI\PNP0303 & ACPI\PNP0F13 without added drivers. Work in porgress.....

If you take the out the common hwids from these drivers won't Windows just load the generic PS/2 driver or whatever, which would defeat the whole purpose of having Touchpad drivers in the driverpack?

JakeLD, maybe it's possible to make fix via ini-file for common hwids? To detect device we are may to use a subsys hwids.

Edit:
I meant to detect device by *&SUBSYS_*xxxx of any device in laptop, where an xxxx is vendor ID of vendor of laptop. But it will be difficult to define what models of laptops uses those or others touchpads.

Chud, what input driver does your mouse or touchpad use?  Because if it's not the Logitech SetPoint driver than the issue is much bigger than just missing files...Windows can't select which driver to load because of the overlapping hwids.

eethball: its an issue with Dell USB corded optical mouse (rebadged Logitech) - I seem to recall having the issue last week with an older pack (that had the file) and it just said the device couldn't start and so didn't work. I got it working in the end by forcing it to be a regular HID device and using the MS driver.
