Hi....

Tested the following machines with latest test graphics packs.....all worked fine:

Dell Optiplex 745 with Radeon X1300/X1550 Series 256MB
Dell Optiplex GX620 with Radeon X300/X550/X1050 Series 256MB
Dell Latitute D505 with Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller
Dell Precision 330 with Matrox Millenium G450 Dual Head

Still seeing the two ATI icons on taskbar beside the clock on the 2 Optiplex machines, but it they work fine anyway.

The G_B intel drivers have been neglected for a while.  I'm going to try to wade through them for an updated G_B 7.08 test over the weekend.
The problem with the intel driver .inf files is there is significant overlap between the driversets.  Oh well, XP PnP will have to juggle them for us. smile

I'll also grab the Dell D610 drivers and have a look at what's different.

One comment towards the Graphics_A 7.07test3 build. I recently integrated this version for a Windows XP install CD for a friend of mine who had built a new PC using a GF 8600 card. He now told me that the videocard drivers were installed but the card was marked with a yellow exclamation mark afterwards in the device manager. A reinstall of the driver solved the problem.

I can acknowledge this problem (PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0400&SUBSYS_34481458&REV_A1\4&2B9C2F50&0&0008, NVIDIA Geforce 8600 GTS by Gigabyte). So I tied to find the reason for this bevavior:

1. Installed unattended with the same driver (162.18) on a PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0391&SUBSYS_34271458&REV_A1\4&31E9B436&0&0008, NVIDIA Geforce 7600 GT which worked fine with version 94.24, result: the system crash on first reboot after setup.

2. Tried BIOS update an changing some BIOS settings, result: problem persits.

3. Tried original nv_disp.inf (48.520 Bytes, from Jun, 29th 20079) and voila it works on both 8600 GTS and 7600 GT although the unattend.txt contains the necessary statements to handle also unsigned driver.

[unattended]
    ...
    NonDriverSigningPolicy = "Ignore"
    DriverSigningPolicy = "Ignore"
    ...

So I did a file compare between the original an the nv_disp.inf from DP_Graphics_A_wnt5_x86-32_708test1.7z what showed me that there have been added many PCI-IDs in the DriverPack-version.

So I have the following suggestions:

1. Keep the original nv4_disp.inf in driverpacks

2. make a another *.inf file (lets call it nv4_nwhq.inf) which is a copy of the original nv4_disp.inf where all entries under [NVIDIA.Mfg]
will be replaced by the new PCI-IDs which had been added to nv4_disp.inf.

So we would achieve that all hardware with IDs from the original nv4_disp.inf keeps its WHQL signature and only the new IDs from the unsigned files nv4_nwhq.inf and nv4_go.inf.

smile
That is EXACTLY what we do.
The nv4_disp.inf is unmodified from what nvidia includes with their installer.  We don't change anything.  The nv4_go.inf (created by laptopvideo2go.com) is a modified version of the nv4_disp.inf to support mobile chips as well as some desktop HWIDS not supported by the factory .inf.

What you're finding are errors created by nvidia that they're not catching prior to release.  If we need to, we can roll-back the nvidia drivers back to 94.24 (stable).
The point of the test/nightly releases is to find what works and what doesn't.

Re: Testers needed for new Graphics driverpacks

Sorry, I did not see that there has been uploaded a newer version (DP_Graphics_A_wnt5_x86-32_708test4.7z). My tests took place with  DP_Graphics_A_wnt5_x86-32_708test1.7z which I got on 08/17/2007 and this version did really contain a modified nv4_disp.inf. So using an unmodified nv4_disp.inf is EXACTLY what we do NOW.

I think this will not be necessary, and it won't be usefull at all in case of my NV8600 GTS which is still not supported in 94.24. I'm going to test  162.50 and will come back here to report if it succeeded or not.

ATI MOBILITY RADEON X2x00 series
ATI RADEON XPRESS series

@chud, I'm working on the Intel drivers in G_B, Jaak already had a go with his updates to 7.07test, I'm amazed at the HWID overlap between the driversets. hmm
In order to preserve the driver-signing, I'm going to leave the HWID overlap as-is since XP PnP should be able to cope at T-34 and we don't have to do anything freaky with the DPfinisher.

Re: Testers needed for new Graphics driverpacks

This might be a stupid question and off topic too but - since with all these test packs, the actual Driverpacks BASE is not changing, is it possible to just use say the "test4" pack if it is renamed to the same filename of the 7z pack I have already slipstreamed?

I am not sure if it works that way, I only ask because this would save having to re-slipstream the drivers and would only involve re-making the ISO as opposed to the whole process from scratch.

Re: Testers needed for new Graphics driverpacks

yes, you can do this with all EXCEPT MASS STORAGE

The answer was 42?
Kind regards, Jaak.

Re: Testers needed for new Graphics driverpacks

Jaak wrote:

OK I have the next question then - do you even need to rename the pack?

Well, of course yes it can't have its original long name, but I mean, say you slipstreamed DP_Graphics_A_wnt5_x86-32_706.7z a while back and now you want to test the new "Graphics A" pack here, the old pack in the OEM folder on your CD is going to be called "DPGA706.7z" so can you put the test pack in and rename it to "DPGA708.7z" and it will just work, or does it HAVE TO be called "DPGA706.7z" like it was originally?

Hmmmmmm.... sorry about asking these dumb questions here but please, just one more! Sometimes I notice the D folder stays on the systemdrive... AFAIK this just randomly happens on Windows 2000, its not always the case, I even put my own runonce in that sometimes doesn't work, is it safe to delete that D folder when Windows logs in for the first time or are there still drivers being installed at that point? As I understand the packs, all drivers install as early on as possible. The DPsFnshr.exe runs to delete the D folder from WINNT.SIF, maybe my command is conflicting, so is it safe to delete the D folder with "RD /S /Q %SystemDrive%\D\" on the first login of Windows? Not sure why the finisher is set to "command9" in WINNT.SIF but I changed this to "command1" and had my own CMD running as "command2" to install a few programs, so if that CMD that I am running deletes the D folder, is that safe to do at that point? Windows will not log in until the WINNT.SIF commands are all done and the finisher has completed and part of that is deleting the D folder.

Windows is just stupid though - you can put stuff in CMD files you have tested over and over again then when it comes to running the install, the command doesn't work. This is Windows for you I guess. I wouldn't mind if some file was locked inside the D folder but it leaves the ENTIRE 1.6Gb folder there. Again though - I am not blaming the driverpacks, I know its Windows' fault, when ever isn't it Windows fault, sigh.

Re: Testers needed for new Graphics driverpacks

LeveL wrote:

Yes, but it can be renamed anything as long as it follows the 8.3 format AND is named DP******.7z(i.e. dpga708.7z).  This is providing you integrated using method 2 (which justs renames the .7z DriverPacks and moves them).  AFAIK, method 1 integration will decompress the DriverPacks and make different entries so it's not so simple.

Method 2 is the recommended method except for certain circumstances.

As for deleting the 'D' folder, once the computer boots to the desktop, if the finisher cannot delete the folder (for whatever reason), it makes a registry entry to delete the folder on the next restart.  You can see this step by reading the DPfinisher log in C:\Windows\

*Edit.

@midiboy.  If you do get access to that particular machine, can you retrieve the dpfinisher log and/or the HWIDs.

Hi !

I was able to get the log of the machine where the Nvidia driver did not get installed properly on an GF8600. That was on August 7th so the bug may have been resolved already in a more recent test driverpack.

Do you guys still need it ? If yes, where should I upload it ? It is too big to post it in the forum directly.

NO..
it has to be DP123456.7z
(8.3 file name convention)

during the 'Driverpack minisetup" the files are expanded, and the 7z script looks for DP*.7z
