Topic: ASUS P5N7A-VM - NVIDIA GeForce 9300 / nForce 730i - SATA Problem

I have to admit that I'm sure this is something I'm doing wrong because lately I can't seem to get a single driverpack integration to fully work properly but I would appreciate any help I could get. I will keep this to a single reference board to see if I can make some sense here.

I have a brand new ASUS P5N7A-VM with an Intel Q8200 and 4 gig of memory. I am using a brand new XPSP3 source disk which I have used RyanVM to intergate post SP3 updates along with a few various programs (all of which I have been using for ages with the DP and having great success) I used BASE 8.12.5 with the standard driverpacks and the latest 3rd Party. I have a Seagate SATA drive connected to an AHCI only port on the MB and it isn't being recognized. It does install when connected to an IDE emulation port

you may have also discovered a bug... Deleted \$OEM$\$1\*.ini. (did you have non DriverPacks related ini files there?)
that command may need to be updated to \$OEM$\$1\DriverPack_*.ini. Doh!

It seems (to me and to DriverPacks BASE) as though you are overwriting a source that had a Method 1 slipstream on it previously?

I have a file called 500_settings.ini which is actually a file from RogueSpears scriptpack that I use to automatically make adjustments to my page file based on available memory.

I do have a winnt.sif file

The cmdlines.txt and the ROE.exe previous versions that were deleted were a mistake on my part from a bunch or previous tests I made before writing in the forum... basically I accidentally left them in my $OEM$ folder that I copied to the directory for the driverpack integration... I can start another clean test just to be sure...

Re: ASUS P5N7A-VM - NVIDIA GeForce 9300 / nForce 730i - SATA Problem

so you did discover a BUG... Well done!

It would be my pleasure to honor you by inviting you to fill out a bug report at the bugtracker.
Very, very few people ever get the opportunity to do that wink.

if mass was not previously added then your results are valid... we need to tweek the mass storage pack...

Thanks for reporting!

I have tried quite a few additional installations and have managed to get most things to work with some suggestions from here but the SATA is one that still doesn't work at all so if their is anything I can do to help with a solution I would be glad to assist.

Re: ASUS P5N7A-VM - NVIDIA GeForce 9300 / nForce 730i - SATA Problem

I have spend the better part of the day continuing to test and learn more about the driver packs. I have been creating or updating some packs for my own use and knowledge and I took a stab at this one by trying a few things but it still doesn't work for me... can you tell me if I made any errors or if I am just too green still :-)

First I downloaded the "NF4-7 actual Driverpacks" for XP (32/64bit) as referenced here: http://www.nforcershq.com/forum/optimiz … 70968.html

I extracted the files and then read the info from the txtsetup.oem for both the SATA and SATA RAID folders

I created a folder called NV7 and copied the files in there

I modified the .ini file by creating a NV7 entry and adding a ms_count=0 to NV6:

[NV7]
ms_count=2
ms_1_deviceName="NVIDIA nForce 9300 SATA/AHCI"
ms_1_tag="nvgts"
ms_1_sysFile="nvgts.sys"
ms_1_hwids="\VEN_10DE&DEV_044D,\VEN_10DE&DEV_044E,\VEN_10DE&DEV_044F,\VEN_10DE&DEV_0554,\VEN_10DE&DEV_0555,\VEN_10DE&DEV_0556,\VEN_10DE&DEV_07F4,\VEN_10DE&DEV_07F5,\VEN_10DE&DEV_07F6,\VEN_10DE&DEV_07F7,\VEN_10DE&DEV_0768,\VEN_10DE&DEV_0AD5,\VEN_10DE&DEV_0AD4,\VEN_10DE&DEV_0AB9,\VEN_10DE&DEV_0AB8,\VEN_10DE&DEV_0BCC,\VEN_10DE&DEV_0BCD"
ms_1_isBusExtender=false
ms_1_exc_disableIfOS="w2k"
ms_2_deviceName="NVIDIA nForce 9300 RAID"
ms_2_tag="nvrd32"
ms_2_sysFile="nvrd32.sys"
ms_2_hwids="\VEN_10DE&DEV_0036,\VEN_10DE&DEV_003E,\VEN_10DE&DEV_0054,\VEN_10DE&DEV_0055,\VEN_10DE&DEV_0266,\VEN_10DE&DEV_0267,\VEN_10DE&DEV_037E,\VEN_10DE&DEV_037F,\VEN_10DE&DEV_036F,\VEN_10DE&DEV_03F6,\VEN_10DE&DEV_03F7,\VEN_10DE&DEV_03E7,\VEN_10DE&DEV_044C,\VEN_10DE&DEV_0558,\VEN_10DE&DEV_0559,\VEN_10DE&DEV_055A,\VEN_10DE&DEV_07F8,\VEN_10DE&DEV_07F9,\VEN_10DE&DEV_07FA,\VEN_10DE&DEV_07FB,\VEN_10DE&DEV_0AD9,\VEN_10DE&DEV_0AD8,\VEN_10DE&DEV_0ABD,\VEN_10DE&DEV_0ABC,\VEN_10DE&DEV_0BC4,\VEN_10DE&DEV_0BC5,SCSI\NVIDIA__Raid_Disk________,SCSI\__NVIDIA_______Raid_Disk,SCSI\NVIDIA__Raid_Disk_20_____,SCSI\__NVIDIA____Raid_Disk_20,*_NVRAIDBUS,*NVRAIDBUS,*NVRAID20"
ms_2_isBusExtender=true
ms_2_exc_disableIfOS="w2k"

I renamed the pack to DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_909r7 and compressed it.
Finally I added it to the BASE and then integrated... but still NG

If I have made any error in my procedures here I apologize...

Re: ASUS P5N7A-VM - NVIDIA GeForce 9300 / nForce 730i - SATA Problem

I have been swamped at work lately and haven't been able to test anything but I am going to try again today and wondered if my pack changes above looked correct or not?... when I tried them they didn't work but I will double check today.

Re: ASUS P5N7A-VM - NVIDIA GeForce 9300 / nForce 730i - SATA Problem

they look correct... that is without opening the pack...

make sure the tag name does not already exist... a tag name may only exist once...

Does "nvgts" already exist somewhere in mass? Also make sure the HWIDs do not already exist in another section .

Re: ASUS P5N7A-VM - NVIDIA GeForce 9300 / nForce 730i - SATA Problem

Ok I just tried it again and no luck... the drivers I used are definitely good because I did a test with nLite and also tried the basic F6 mode and they worked so I am thinking this must be a mistake I have made. I am going to try a few more things and then give up on the mass storage before I shoot myself lol yikes

EDIT: I THINK I found an error in my ini file... I accidentally deleted the PCI\ from the hwids... I rewrote the ini and am trying it now

Re: ASUS P5N7A-VM - NVIDIA GeForce 9300 / nForce 730i - SATA Problem

Nvgts.sys does require additional registry settings.

Well I made the changes and ran the test and once again it failed....

Cdob, that was a great find thank you... I must admit after reading this a half dozen times I am still a little confused regarding the registry changes... the OENPnP I understand but will this not work without the reg changes?

Re: ASUS P5N7A-VM - NVIDIA GeForce 9300 / nForce 730i - SATA Problem

if the device does not have legacy support then you MUST add the registry entries to the Hive... (Thanks nvidia)

I'm also not understanding how nLite managed to work with the drivers... do they add the reg changes you're referencing?

Re: ASUS P5N7A-VM - NVIDIA GeForce 9300 / nForce 730i - SATA Problem

OK so I copy his code:

copy setupreg.hiv setupreg.hiv.%random%.sav

reg.exe unload HKLM\loaded_SYSTEM
reg.exe load HKLM\loaded_SYSTEM setupreg.hiv

reg.exe add "HKLM\loaded_SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\nvgts\Parameters\PnpInterface" /f /t REG_DWORD /v "5" /d 1
reg.exe add "HKLM\loaded_SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\nvgts5\Parameters\PnpInterface" /f /t REG_DWORD /v "5" /d 1
reg.exe add "HKLM\loaded_SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\nvgts6\Parameters\PnpInterface" /f /t REG_DWORD /v "5" /d 1
reg.exe add "HKLM\loaded_SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\nvgts7\Parameters\PnpInterface" /f /t REG_DWORD /v "5" /d 1

reg.exe unload HKLM\loaded_SYSTEM.

...and create a setPnpInterfaceNvgts.cmd from it

but where and how do I run it? What does this mean:Try run setPnpInterfaceNvgts.cmd at \I386 directory: ...do I copy the setPnpInterfaceNvgts.cmd to the \I386 directory and then "run it" at some point during the install?

Re: ASUS P5N7A-VM - NVIDIA GeForce 9300 / nForce 730i - SATA Problem

you do this in the I386 folder of your source either before or after you add the mass storage drivers with DriverPacks BASE... (before you create the ISO)

What is this actually doing to the installation ISO... I don't understand what changes it's making...

Does this make any changes or have any effect on the host system where I am actually creating my integration and ISO ...sorry if
these are dumb questions... maybe I am a little shot from this particular round since I can't get anything to work the way I expect

Re: ASUS P5N7A-VM - NVIDIA GeForce 9300 / nForce 730i - SATA Problem

since your source has not yet been installed there is no registry... (yet)

The target machines initial registry is created during the install from hive files like setupreg.hiv.

to create or delete a registry entry, before windows is installed, the Hive must be modified...

this is done with regedit... Load the hive file, mod the hive file, save the hive file.

this does not affect anything except the setupreg.hiv file loaded from your source.

Please note the first command is making a backup "copy" of this file...

Re: ASUS P5N7A-VM - NVIDIA GeForce 9300 / nForce 730i - SATA Problem

OK.. here is my latest update:
I created my new source files/folders and copied the setPnpInterfaceNvgts.cmd to the \I386 directory. I ran the command. I copied my drivers to $OEM$\Drivers\NVIDIA,  then modified my WINNT.SIF

OemPnPDriversPath="Drivers\NVIDIA\sataraid;Drivers\NVIDIA\sata_ide"
OemPreinstall=Yes
DriverSigningPolicy=Ignore
NonDriverSigningPolicy=Ignore

Then I integrated the driverpacks including the massstorage that I modified with the new NV7 drivers.
The system copied the files, formated the drive, copied the files, booted to XP for a second and then BSOD

Re: ASUS P5N7A-VM - NVIDIA GeForce 9300 / nForce 730i - SATA Problem

Still trying to figure this out and looking for any errors I may have made:
When I ran setPnpInterfaceNvgts.cmd I noticed this and wondered if it was OK:
C:\Y\!Slipstream\_XPBuilds\_10-14-09\P5N7A-VM-DP\I386>copy setupreg.hiv setupreg.hiv.3065.sav
        1 file(s) copied.

C:\Y\!Slipstream\_XPBuilds\_10-14-09\P5N7A-VM-DP\I386>reg.exe unload HKLM\loaded_SYSTEM

Error:  The parameter is incorrect.
All other lines completed successfully

I have two additional questions:
1) How does nLite add the drivers without adding or going through the reg file changes?

This next one is the same question from the other thread you directed me to follow:
2) Can I integrate the driver with nLite and also use Driverpack to add the rest of the drivers? kambing said he tried it and it didn't work! Any idea?

Re: ASUS P5N7A-VM - NVIDIA GeForce 9300 / nForce 730i - SATA Problem

From the other thread ATechGuy said the following is needed... should I modify the HIVESYS.INF???

open i386\HIVESYS.INF in a text editor
under:
Code:
HKLM,"SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ultra\Parameters\PnpInterface","5",0x00010003,1
add:
Code:
HKLM,"SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\nvgts","ErrorControl",0x00010003,1
HKLM,"SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\nvgts","Group",0x00000002,"SCSI miniport"
HKLM,"SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\nvgts","Start",0x00010003,4
HKLM,"SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\nvgts","Tag",0x00010003,60
HKLM,"SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\nvgts","Type",0x00010003,1

HKLM,"SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\nvgts\Parameters\PnpInterface","5",0x00010003,1

WOW!!!!!! The changes to the HIVESYS.INI file seemed to have done the trick and the disk is FINALLY installing big_smile
I will finish the install and report back plus now I have some questions on how to proceed from here with the creation of "generic" install disks...
